Memorable Oscars quotesL OS ANGELESThe Academy of Motion PictureArts and Sciences handed out Oscars, the filmindustrys top honor, at the 85th annual Acade-my Awards on Sunday.

Following is a collection ofmemorable quotes from theshow and backstage:

Ang Lee,Best Director, Life of Pi

    Thank you movie god, Lee

said to a big laugh from the audi-ence. I really need to share this

with all 3,000everybody whoworked with me on Life of Pi.

    Ben Affleck,Best Picture, Argo

I thank everyone in themovie. I want to thank Canada.I want to thank our friends inIran living in terrible circum-stances right now. I want tothank my wife, who I dont nor-mally associate with Iran, but I

want to thank you for workingon our marriage for 10 Christ-mases. It is work but it is thebest kind of work, and theresno one Id rather work with.

I was here 15 years ago

and had no idea what I wasdoing ... I was really just akid, and I went out andnever thought Id be backhere, said Affleck, who di-

    rected and co-produced Argo.Daniel Day-Lewis,

Best Actor, LincolnI had actually been commit-

ted to play Margaret Thatcherand Meryl (Streep) was Steven(Spielbergs) first choice for Lin-coln...Steven didnt have to per-suade me to play Lincoln but Ihad to persuade him that per-haps if I was going to do it, that

Lincoln shouldnt be a musical,Day-Lewis joked, taking a poke atStreep, who presented his Oscar.

There are three men towhom I owe this and a greatdeal more. Tony Kushner, ourbeloved skipper (director)Steven Spielberg and the myste-riously beautiful mind, bodyand spirit of Abraham Lincoln, said Day-Lewis who dedicated

his win to his mother.Christoph Waltz,

    Best Supporting Actor,Django Unchained

When I read the script forthe first time, I realized thatthere was something specialabout this film. I know Quentin(Tarantino), and I read thepages more or less as they cameout of the printer. Page by pageI realized that something spe-cial is in the making. I am in

awe of the people who work or

are in my category. So, the very fact that I am

one of them would have ...meant the world ... Robert DeNiro, Alan Arkin are role mod-els for me since I started in thisprofession.

    Jennifer Lawrence,Best Actress

Silver LiningsThank you. You guys are

just standing up because youfeel bad that I fell and thats re-ally embarrassing, but thank

you. This is nuts!Im just cross-eyed.

The process today was sostressful. I felt like SteveMartin from Father of the

Bride watching my wholehouse being torn apart. When asked if she is wor-ried that her career maybe peaking early, she

said: I mean, whoknows? I guess well see.Well, now I am.

    Anne Hathaway,Best Supporting

    Actress, LesMiserables

I had a dream. And itcame true, said Hath-away.

This film changed mebecause it made me morecompassionate and more

aware. Heres hoping thatsome day, in the not-too-distant future, the misfor-tunes of Fantine will onlybe found in stories andnever more in real life,Hathaway said, referringto her Les Miserablescharacter who was astarving young motherforced into prostitution.Quentin Tarantino,

about my movies 30 or50 years from now, itsgoing to be because ofthe characters I created. Ireally only got onechance to get it right. Ihave to cast the rightpeople to make thosecharacters come aliveand hopefully live for along timeand boy, thistime did I do it. Thank

you so much guys. I would liketo say that its such an honor toget it this year ... the writing is

just fantastic. This will be thewriters year.

On negative critiques of thefilm: All that criticism that cameout; it ended up being kind of agood thing. I wanted to start aconversation about slavery.

    Lots new love

After a decade of beingsingle, I finally found some-one who makes me happy.

Hes super romantic. Heknows what he wants andnever fails to show me that hecares, Lot says, beaming. Imdone with dating guys whoplay cutesy or lead you on.My boyfriend really wants tostay with me. He has met mykids except Diego. Hes sup-portive of my career.

Has she introduced him toher Mom (Ate Guy)? Not

    yet, Lot says. Saka na muna;

baka maudlot. She is also happy thatthings are going smoothlynow between her and Mami-ta (Pilita Corrales, her exmother-in-law).

She calls and asks abouther granddaughter Janinescareer. She shows her con-cern, Lot says.

Alls well in her world. Be-ing a happier woman willsurely make Lot an even bet-ter mother and actress. Thatsthe way love goes.

Martins talk showMartin Nievera hasnt lost

his gift of gab all these years.Hes back with his own talkshow, Martin Late @ Nighton ABS-CBN every Friday af-ter Bandila. (It premieres onMarch 1.)

As a host, Mart has mas-tered the art of being naughty

without being offensive. Whatcan viewers expect from his

show?It will be very similar if

not exactly the same as theshow I had before where welaunched careers, introducednew bands and heard politi-cians sing, says Mart. Now

with that, plus a new batch ofbright stars, I feel my show

will be more interesting andentertaining. I want the showto be light and easy to theeyes and the ears. With just a

baby grand and lots of fun

chit-chat, I want to be the oneto say good night to the world

    with good news and positivi-ty.

Concert repeatHis goal? I would love to

be on every night like the timeI started almost 20 years ago and give it my best shot, headds. Mart is equally excitedfor the repeat of Foursome

with Pops Fernandez, Ogie Al-casid and Regine Velasquezon March 16 at the SM Mall of

Asia (MOA) Arena with specialguest, Gary Valenciano.

We were featured on CNNwhich is a first, beams Mart. The concert was a success be-cause we have the most loyalfans plus the outstanding ar-rangements ofRaul Mitra andHomer Flores in harmony

with the teamwork and theblending of our hits and lifestories.

Marts song for himself is IDreamed a Dre am.

My life and career has tak-

en many turns. Some goodand some bad, he muses. But during every adventure, Isometimes hurt the people Ilove most by just having todeal with these challenges. Not everyone has a heart ofstone to survive what wecelebs put ourselves throughfor the sake of the journey. Nodream comes without sacri-

fice. Thank you to all whokept me dreaming.Whether Martin talks or

sings, you cant help but sitand listen because you can tellthat his heart is always in it.

Guess listA lead actor (LA) wants the

script of his teleserye revisedbecause he doesnt like the

way the story would end. Hewants to make his characterappear like the hero/goodguy. The writers are in a madscramble on what to do next.Wasnt LA listening during thestory conference?

Before the cameras evenstarted to grind, he alreadyknew how the ending wouldgo. LA should have told theproduction team earlier on in-stead of causing undue hasslenow that the series is in fullswing. But then again, actorsfeel like they are entitled totheir own quirks. And so it

    goes.

    TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2013 7FEATURESSenior love story

siguro magtatagal at maaalalaka niyang tawagan. Gawin molang ang mga ginagawa moaraw-araw. Kung kayo talagaang magka-palad, may magigingdaan para magkita kayong muli.

Manalig ka sa gulong ng palad.
