We all want our lives to matter. Its the reason we do the things we do. We work hard for promotions and leadership positions because we want to make a difference. We encourage our kids to go to college, get a good job, and make lots of money, in hopes that they, too, will make a difference. Theres nothing wrong with having success or influence, but those things alone wont change the world and they arent what we were made for. We were made to obey the Lord, to share the Gospel and to build up the church (Eph. 4:11-13). God made each one of us with unique gifts, personalities and skill sets. And when we are raised with Christ in Baptism (Col. 3:1-4), we are to seek things above and begin using those gifts to build up the Kingdom. We seriously get the most joy and make the biggest difference when we use our God given talents, gifts and abilities to build up His church. In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul compares the church to a human body. Just like our bodies are made of many parts serving specific functions, the church is made up of people with different skills and abilities. Alone these pieces arent very useful, but joined together it creates something beautiful. 1 Peter 4:10-11 says, As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Servant leadership is a way to express gratitude for what Jesus has done for us, and to share the love and grace we've been given to those around us, both within the church and those outside of Christ. Serving others is good for your soul! Studies have shown that helping others is so good for the mind and body that it can ease symptoms of stress and anxiety. Serving others can be the best distraction from our own problems and distractions. Serving others helps keep us focused on God and our commitment to serving Him as well. Throughout the Bible God used men and women just like us today with similar doubts and fears. Moses didnt think he was much of a leader, but God worked through him to bring Israel out of bondage in Egypt. David was the youngest, and therefore most insignificant of all his brothers, but God worked through him to defeat the giant Goliath and eventually made him a king. Paul used to persecute the Church and Christians before he met the Lord and was converted, he went on to become one of the most highly regarded and prolific writers in the history of the church. God wants us to take the gifts and abilities which He has given to us and use them, get more involved, make a difference in the lives of everyone around us, build up the Church. Take the time to consider the gift which God has blessed you with, and use it. God Bless -Todd

“From Where I Sit”

Sunday was another blessing as we gathered together to worship our almighty God. With all the distractions of the world it is good to stop and remember what our focus should be, to love God, faithfully obey His commands and share the Gospel with others. We all want our lives to matter. It’s the reason we do the things we do. We work hard for promotions and leadership positions because we want to make a difference. We encourage our kids to go to college, get a good job, and make lots of money, in hopes that they, too, will make a difference. There’s nothing wrong with having success or influence, but those things alone won’t change the world and they aren’t what we were made for. Alone these pieces aren’t very useful, but joined together it creates something beautiful. 1 Peter 4:10-11 says, “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. HARRISON AND I HAVE COMBINED ARTICLES this week in an effort to save room for pictures of our adventures over the past few weeks. The summer is going by quickly and back to school time will be here before we know it. The youth group is still meeting weekly either in person or via Zoom to have bible study, and I am continually impressed at the dedication of our young people to growing and strengthening their faith. WE HAD A WONDERFUL WEEK UP ON THE HILL two weeks ago for the first (and hopefully last) Week Retreat. Week Retreat was a week-long retreat that took place at Camp Meribah, but was not a part of summer camp. All of our students were thankful to be able to spend time with each other as well as to enjoy our wonderful camp facilities. We had strict guidelines that we followed during the week (limited number of students

allowed, students socially-distanced in the cabins, a camp-wide cleaning routine 4+ times per day, and daily health and temperature checks for everyone at camp), but everyone did their best to not let the distractions of the Coronavirus take away from a great week of devotionals, bible classes, team games, creek swimming, and many other great activities. Week Retreat was topped off by Anna Kate Jenkins deciding to give her life to Christ through baptism on the Saturday following Week Retreat. We are thankful for Shelby, Jeremy & Meredith Qualls, Amanda Mayberry, Matthew & Cissy Dotson, Clay & Tara Chessor, and all of our college age students that served as our staff for the week. AFTER A LONG ABSENCE OF YOUTH GROUP ACTIVITIES, it was refreshing to enjoy a much-needed week up on the hill. Plans for the remainder of the summer are still up in the air, but we are working on several upcoming events, and plan to make the most of our time together. In Him, Carter and Harrison
