Segregated Schools: Good or Bad?

• We live in a world where men and women associate with each other every day.

• We work together, live together, and receive education together.

• Some people disagree with schools being coeducational.

• They believe girls and boys shouldn’t have to go through their teenage years dealing with the pressures of the opposite sex.

• We’re going to show you why schools in our opinion shouldn’t be segregated by gender.

Leonard Sax• First person responsible for having the idea

of high school segregation by gender was Leonard Sax.

• He is a family physician who has written many books about his theory such as “Why Gender Matters” and “What’s Happening to Boys?”

• He is also the founder & executive director of National Association for Single Sex Public Education.

• He felt it would result in less disagreement and less distraction from school work.

• We disagree!– We believe that segregated high schools

only cause more disagreement and distraction among students because they are off thinking about the opposite sex.

• God made man and woman together so they can interact in life. We should continue God’s idea, for it is far better than Sax’s.

• Also, if boys and girls can’t have relationships as teens, then their relationships as adults would be harder to manage than ever. This would lead to more divorces, which in society is becoming more common every day.

• Schools shouldn’t be segregated by gender. • First, there would be more fights and brawls among

students. – For boys, it would be about sports, grades, drugs, etc.– For girls, it would be about gossip; the amount of gossip in all-girl

school would become greater than ever. • More conflicts would arise among same-sex schools. • Would you want your child to have to go to a same-sex

school every day, where he or she will most likely be gossiped or badly talked about?

• This could easily cause depression among teens because they can’t fit in or be like the ‘cool crowd.’

– Depression isn’t a good thing; it could cause suicidal thoughts and violence towards others.

– We’re not saying segregated schools would cause this, there is just more of a chance it will.

• What happens when teenage boys and girls can’t see each other often? They throw parties.

• There would be more parties thrown between segregated high schools just because, for example, guys need to see girls and vice versa.

• Usually, with more parties comes more alcohol.– This is bad because teenage drunk-driving is the

leading cause of teenage deaths. • Along with alcohol, there would be a larger use

of drugs among teens. – They’d use drugs to cope with issues and to try to

be like ‘everyone else.’ – We all know DRUGS ARE BAD.

No Segregated Schools!• In our opinion, schools are better off

un-segregated than segregated. • Boys and girls need each other in

their lives; it’s a part of nature.• We need to grow in relationships

that prepare us for the future God gave us together.

• Segregated schools bring the consequences of gossip, bullying, more alcohol, drugs and parties, all things society should have less of. – All these negative issues can also

lead to an abnormal upbringing of teens that are fragile, vulnerable and easy to manipulate.

• Would you want to live in a world where teens aren’t raised the way society needs them to be?

• This is why we shouldn’t have segregated high schools in our world.
