TOON iNTO FUN aT WWW.TOON-BOOKS.COM

Dear readers,

All my life, I have made, printed and published books, working with artists who are also storytellers. I’ve loved reading and reading comics, and as a mother I have shared that passion with my own kids. I now want to share that same passion with a new generation of readers. At TOON, we believe that the way to do that is to publish beautifully produced hardcover books of comics and visual narratives that bring the text to life in a way that capture young readers’ imaginations. It’ll make them want to read, read on—and read more. Making sense out of reading with the aid of visuals may be the best way to become a lifelong reader, one who knows how to read for pleasure and for information—a reader who loves to read.

We present our books with four reading levels:• LEVEL 1: First comics for brand new readers• LEVEL 2: Easy-to-read comics for beginning readers• LEVEL 3: Chapter books for advanced beginners• TOON Graphics for Visual Readers, for ages 8+

Take a look. I’m sure you’ll find just the right book for someone you love and want to inspire. And get in touch at [email protected]. We want to hear what you think of our books–it will inspire us.

What do worms do all day? How do they see? And why are they so cold and squishy? Find out by going on an underground tour through the hidden world of earthworms. Kevin McCloskey’s book even shows readers what’s happening inside a worm’s body— brain, crop, gizzard, and more. The book takes young readers from “ew!” to “wow!” as they learn about the different ways worms work hard to help the earth. Kids may pick up many of the life science lessons contained here on their first read, but they’ll return to We Dig Worms! again and again to rediscover its story. Deceptively simple, humble yet charming, this little book reaches surprising depths...just like, well, a worm!

KEVIN MCCLOSKEY who teaches illustration at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania made this book for his wife, Mama Patt, who asked for a funny worm book to read at the library.

STRONG POINTS:

• To make a point about recycling, the author/artist painted the book with gouache on recycled brown bags.

• Author/artist can be booked for school visits with a bucket of live worms.

• The perfect comic to include in STEM, Animal Life, and Informational Text classroom library collections

• Doubles as a read aloud book with toddlers and a book young children can begin to read on their own

• Accompanying TOON into Reading online resources including CCSS-Aligned Lesson Plan and Activity Sheet
