Toothpick ,o-

Finally I completed my twin lock box with

hidden keys. I call this box “Toothpick

Box”. Mechanic of the box is exactly

same with “Twin Lock Box”. For this box

I made side panels longer for hidingwooden keys. n each side of the box

there are fi!e small hole "# mm diameter$

For opening the box yo% m%st config%re

wooden keys by p%shing them. Beca%se of

prod%ction clearances there are a small

clearance on box co!er. That makes easier

to find the co!er b%t it&s not important.

Beca%se finding the co!er don't help to

open the box.

I made this box from pada%k. They call some time “ Blood wood” I was expecting an orange color.

B%t its red. I am not s%re is that tr%e color or the wood is exposed to s%n light on seller shop.

Beca%se on woodworker sites they say this wood becomes darker when exposed to s%n light.

This is my first p%((le with pada%k. )ll workshop* my clothes and me became red beca%se of

sanding d%st It paint e!erything like an oil pastel. This is a little bigger box "+,x-,x#/ mm$

0imensions are planned for less scrap from my material.

I de!eloped an alternati!e method. The keys on the top of the photo "made from mahogany and with

dark color$ are easy to make. <o% can c%t the slots easily with any method that yo% like. I c%t them

by %sing a hand mitre saw and a >ewelery saw.

In this box design keys with two position works fine and I think eno%gh tricky for f%n and keeping

content from c%rio%s eyes. B%t if yo% like something more tricky yo% can make add some keys with

a third position. <o% can open this box only when this key is at the center position

The pict%re show the box constr%ction before mo%nting front and back panels.

1repare the material gi!en by the material list. Make a gro!e #x#x/ mm to the middle of the

“frame top” pieces.

4hen making assembly I %sed small paper pieces for gi!ing necessary clearances.

I assembled first left and right sides. )fter I mo%nted them on base plate. For front and back panels there are a planned dimension. B%t that change related to material

thickness. For a best fit* I prefer c%t them after mo%nting left and right panels by meas%ring real

dimension.

.aking the bo- co+er

The box co!er is a flat wood pieces as seen

on the photo at left. Two co!er sliders are

gl%ed on this wood pieces. For fortify the

constr%ction two triang%lar wood pieces

gl%ed to the bottom of that sliders as seen on

the photo.

.aking t&o co+er sliders

4ooden pins are c%t to / mm length. 0rill holes :

mm diameter and 5 mm depth. )fter fixing wooden

pins* yo% will ha!e 9 mm length wooden pins.

0istance between pin centers is / mm and !ery

precise. For easy marking pin locations yo% can %se

a compass.

)i-ing co+er sliders to correct position

?l%ing sliders to correct position on co!er precisely is tricky. I p%t small cardboard pieces %nder

both slider. They became higher than the box height. )nd it&s became easy to fix them in correct

 position
