• This is definitely a priority in the public relations field.

• I have learned that not only can you spread the word and get your voice heard, you can also connect with other people.

News Releases

• It is imperative to know how to properly write a news release.

• In class, we learned about the components that make up a news release, and how to apply it to our own.

Podcasts

• As an assignment, our class had to listen and respond to a social media podcast

• I learned that you can actually learn a lot about the news or current events, even when you’re out and about and busy!

• One we listened to on a weekly basis was “Wait, wait…don’t tell me!”

Current Events

• Keeping up with current events is important in the PR field.

• You can do this by checking out other people’s social mediums, or researching yourself through blogs, podcasts, and other social networking websites.

• You can also keep up through TV or magazines.

Interview Tips

• In class, we discussed numerous tips to consider when going through an interview, and also learned what not to do

• Knowing proper interview etiquette will be beneficial for an future careers I might want

• We also learned proper ways to undergo a telephone interview

Resume

• Have a well written resume and cover letter-VERY IMPORTANT! This is your chance to prove yourself

• This is one of the most beneficial things I learned in class because it is vital to know how to write a proper resume.

Twitter!

• Twitter was one of the most difficult and interesting things I learned in class

• This is useful because it is one of the most popular social mediums in the PR field.

• Definitely a “must-know”

Technology

• Becoming aware of new technology will help get you through public relations because it is centered around focusing on new ideas and getting information across to people any way you can

• In class, Professor Nixon used many different forms of technology during her lectures as examples

“R-A-C-E”

• There are 4 words to describe Public Relations as a process:

• Research- What is the problem?

• Action- What will be done about it?

• Communication- How to inform the public

• Evaluation- Was the audience reached? What was the effect?

Guest Speakers

• We had 2 guest speakers, Lauren Crawford and Jeremy Estroff, that graduated from the PR area at Georgia Southern come to our lecture to speak to us about the field

• They were very helpful because we were learning from people who were just in our shoes

• What I really liked was their tips for before and after college– BEFORE: Save your writings and showcase them at

an interview, get involved on campus!– AFTER: Keep saving your work, pay attention to new

technology, do not wait until the last minute!
