AIM
Collecting of Digitally survey data by total station for designing by advance software for achieving higher accuracy in short time.
-
1. Total Station includes Theodolite, Electronicdistance measurement (EDM) & data recorders.
2. We collect vertical & horizontal data in a singleoperation. Data recorder can record information inthe field to take back to the office forprocessing.
3. Data recorders can also be used to downloadpreviously determined data at the office for use inthe field to stake out or to locate constructioncontrol points & boundaries.
4. We can also designed traditionally(manually),data collected by the Total station in data recorders.

Role of Total Station in Preparation of Highway DPR
In Highway Detail Project Report (DPR)preparation. Total Station is used forcollection of all Survey data digitally.
Digitally collected survey Data furthertransferred to a computer to create Digitaldesign model by any designing software.
Designed Data up loaded in Total Stationfor further staking out on ground.

How Total Station works
Total Station collects all ground data in Three Dimensional
Format (Co-ordinate system).
Prior to collection of data, it requires at least two known points
(co-ordinates known), to set up the station.
After setting up the station it gives / collects the details of
points w.r.t. the two known points from the Station.
Total Station measures horizontal angles in WCB system
automatically from the assumed Meridian as worked in Station
set up and the Vertical angles from the Horizontal axis of the
instrument [above (+), below (-)].
. As this instrument gives all the engineering details of a station
/ point , the instruments has been named as Total Station.

Setting up the TripodOpen the tripod legs enough to for the instrument
to stable.
Locate the tripod directly over the station point. To the check tripod position look through the center hole in the tripod head.
Firmly press the tripod ferrules into the ground.
Level the top surface of the tripod head.
Securely faster the thumb screws on the tripod legs.
Place the Base plate on the tripod head
Tighten the tripod mounting screw.

LEVELING
Firstly level the base plate level by tripod legs slide
Place the instrument on the base plate and fixed by leveling base plate clamp
Loose the upper horizontal movement plate clamp
Level by THREE LEGS METHOD

2. Open menu
3. Open job manager
4. Select open job & click
5. Your job is opened & System return back to BMS
6. Menu key than No 5 key for Communication click
7. (1) No key Down Load
8. Type of Data : Raw Data
9. Enter
10. Ready to send Data it will appear how much data lines
are going to transfer to you computer.

1. Start computer & go to All Program
2. Transit
3. Transit (Transit window open )
4. Transfer
5. Data Recorder to PC (window open data recorder to PC)
6. Data Recorder: DTM -500/502/552
7. Data format: Nikon Raw
(Directories selected) Example : C / program / Nikon/

STAKE OUT1. First setup the tripod on station and complete the leveling as per procedure.
2. Open the Job (Menu Job Highlight the job and Enter.)

4. (for accuracy work press ANG for face 2 measurement and sight the same point on
face 2 and press MSR 1)
5. Press enter to record
6. Press S-O key (8 No. Key)
7 Select XYZ
8. Feed the Number if available in the job instrument will take auto otherwise feed theNEZ
9. Now instrument will guide you. Rotate the angle and sight the prism and measure.
Now instrument will guide Left/right in/out cut/fill.

Conclusion Every engineering project, surveying isthe first step of the execution of the success ofany engineering project. And it is based uponthe accurate and complete survey work prior tocommencement of project as well as duringexecution and after completion.
Hence the survey by TOTAL STATION ismost important for accurate estimate in lesstime and execution of work.
