The Black Powder Shootout

Welcome Tournament Participants,

On behalf of the Black Powder Shootout Committee, the Members, and Staff of the Powder Horn Golf Club, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 7th Annual Black Powder Shootout.

During the next few days, we are committed to making your participation in this event a very enjoyable and memorable experience. Whether you are a Powder Horn Member or a Guest, your personal impressions are very important to us. They provide the communication for change as we improve on our ability each year to make this event the best ever. Please let us know what you think.

The first event of the Black Powder Shootout will be the Thursday Practice Round. The Practice Round will include a team best ball game for $40 per team. Participation is optional. At 5:00 we will kick off the 3rd Annual Tony Markve Memorial Slug Fest” on Eagle #1 tee box. Bring your $20 and play hard because its winner take all! Thursday night at 6:00p.m., we invite you to attend Cocktails and the opening dinner at the clubhouse with a Calcutta to follow at 7:30p.m.

The tournament field is 84 teams equaling 168 players. Due to the large number of participants, please allow yourself enough time to get warmed up on the range or in the bar to be prepared for the 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. We will be playing three 9-hole, best ball matches on Friday, followed by Pizza and Beer from Powder River Pizza and Black Tooth Brewing Company.

On Saturday, the tournament kicks off at 9:00am with the final two 9-hole matches and after we find out the winners of the flights, there will be a 7-hole derby style Shootout to determine this year’s champions. There will be a table set up for paramutual betting, beginning at 2:45pm. Following the Shootout we celebrate in style with a live performance by The Max, followed by dinner at The Powder Horn Clubhouse. The Sheridan Trolley will again be providing rides home from 10:30pm-1:30am.

Please keep a copy of this book with you during competition and refer to the schedule of events located on the next page. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your participation. We hope you play well, and most of all we hope you have an enjoyable three days with us.

Sincerely,

Tournament Format and Rules

This year we have 84 teams broken into 14 flights of six teams each. Flights will be determined by the combined player handicap index. All flights will be playing from the Black Powder Shootout tee markers. Format: The tournament will be a Four-ball Net Match Play: A match in which two play their better ball against the better ball of the two other players. Each team will play five 9-hole matches within their respective flights. Points will be earned as follows: one point for winning a hole, ½ point for halving the hole. Each match will be played through the full nine holes, and the winner of the match will receive one bonus point. After match #5 on Saturday, there will be a shootout consisting of the 14 flight winners. The winner of the shootout will be crowned the Tournament Champion. Handicapping: All handicap indexes are as of June 1st. The maximum course handicap for any player will be 36, and each player will be receiving 100% of their GHIN Index. There may not be more than a 10 stroke Handicap Index difference between partners. If the differential is greater than 10, the higher course handicap will be reduced. Strokes for each match will be allocated by reducing the course handicap of all four players by the handicap of the low player in the match, who shall then play as scratch. The tournament committee reserves the right to adjust handicaps should it deem necessary. Pace of Play: To ensure that we get all the matches and the shootout completed, we ask that all teams abide by the following:

1) When out of the hole please pick up.

2) Pace of play guidelines are as follows: maximum per hole of 15 minutes or 2 hours and 15 minutes total for the nine holes. The Course Marshall will be monitoring the pace of play and if a group falls well enough behind the group, they will be moved back into position and all holes skipped will be considered halved by both teams.

3) On Friday all teams will be issued their scorecards for all three matches that day. On the completion of each match, please proceed to the starting hole on the next match (do not return to the clubhouse). The Pro Shop staff will drive around to collect scorecards, and lunch will be provided at stations on all three courses.

Playing against Par in your flight: If a flight should have five teams, one match will be played against par. The two man team will play their better ball against par for the hole: one point for winning a hole, and ½ for halving a hole.

Page 5: Tournament Packet - WordPress.com · The tournament will be a Four-ball Net Match Play: A match in which two play their better ball against the better ball of the two other players

Breaking Ties: Ties for flight winners will be decided by team’s head to head match during the tournament. If that match was even, it will be determined by how each team faired versus the 3rd place team and continuing through the flight until the flight is decided. A chip off will determine the winner if all matches were tied. Weather Policy: In case of inclement weather all nine holes have to be completed for the score to count. If a nine hole round is not completed the tournament will be shortened to the number of complete rounds. No Shows: In case of “No Shows”, the team that fails to play will be disqualified for that match and receive (0) points. Their opponent will receive 5.5 points. If one member of the team plays, that team may accumulate as many points as possible. No substitutions will be allowed, however the two-man team may earn a maximum of 5.5 points. If at least 6 holes of the match are played 2 on 2 the maximum 5.5 rule does not apply. The teams in the flight who have already played the forfeited team and accumulated less than 5.5 will automatically receive the same 5.5 points. The teams who played the forfeited teams and received more than 5.5 points will keep the points they earned. WD During Play: If a team were to withdraw during the competition, the teams who already played the withdrawn team would receive the points they accumulated at the time of withdraw or 5.5 whichever point total is greater.
