Jimmy Hall (Class of 1963)Jimmy Hall was dual sport athlete in basketballand track. While accomplished in track (thentriple jump record of 43’8”), he is most celebrat-ed as a star basketball player and a foundation ofTowson 1960’s dominance. In his two seasons,1961 – 63, Jimmy Hall had a profound impact onbasketball at Towson High, in Baltimore County, the Baltimore Area and statewide.

As one of the most dominant and talentedBaltimore Area players of his era, Jimmy was thedriving force behind Towson High’s rise to con-secutive Baltimore County championships and

ultimately the 1963 Maryland State AAAA BoysBasketball Championship.

While he was extremely blessed with excep-tional leaping ability, a deadly long-range jumpshot and a high basketball IQ, Jimmy breathedconfidence into his teammates with his very pas-sionate, arrogant, and physical style of play. Attimes, he was absolutely intimidating to oppo-nents and inspiring to his teammates and fans. His confidence was infectious and eventually theentire team was a group of believers.

Despite being a preseason pick to finish inthe middle of the final Baltimore County stand-ings, Towson, with Jimmy leading the way, domi-nated county opposition and had an undefeated1961 -62 Baltimore County season. This wasonly the beginning of a great run. That seasonconcluded with a 15 point loss to BladensburgHigh in the Maryland State semi-finals at theUniversity of Maryland. With a commitment torectify that loss, Jimmy and his peers turned theirthoughts to the 1962-63 season.

That ’63 team had a banner year andJimmy Hall was at his best. Along the way,Towson dominated and achieved another unde-feated regular league schedule. Additionally, the 1963 team defeated every Baltimore AreaLeague Champion including Baltimore City,Private School and Catholic League Champions. The team went 21 -1 and won the MarylandState Basketball AAAA Champion by defeatingthe same Bladensburg High School, by 15points, in the finals. Towson High School –1963 State Champs! Jimmy and his peers hadfulfilled their promise to rectify the past.Jimmy Hall’s play helped Towson High andBaltimore County basketball gain recognitionand respect from the entire Baltimore area andstatewide basketball communities.

Jimmy received an athletic scholarship toMorgan State College, where he was a four yearstarter and continued his excellence on the courtagainst top-notch competition. As a team cap-tain, he averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 reboundsfor his career. Following graduation, he wassigned as a free agent with the then BaltimoreBullets of the National Basketball Association andwas the final team cut for the 1967-68 season. However, he continued playing with theWilmington Blue Bombers of the semi-profes-sional Eastern Basketball League.

Jimmy is now retired following 42 years as

a teacher and coach for the Baltimore CountyPublic School System. Recalling his tenure as aTowson High School student-athlete Jimmy said,“Towson High provided a sound foundation formy athletic and career successes.”

Ernest J. Skip Lichtfuss, Jr. (Class of 1974)Skip was a rare 3 sport athlete who excelled inFootball, Basketball, and Lacrosse at TowsonHigh School. He was a member of the onlyundefeated and Baltimore CountyChampionship Football Team in 1969 earning1st team All County and honorable mention All-Metro accolades as a tight end, safety, andpunter.

On the Generals basketball team, Skip ledthe team in scoring his junior and senior yearsas well as earning 1st team All County and 2ndteam All-Metro status. However, he was mostknown for his prowess on the lacrosse field.Coached by fellow 2014 THS Hall of Fameinductee Bill Thomas, Skip was a big part of theGenerals undefeated championship team wherehe led the county in goals scored, earning 1stteam All County, 1st Team All Maryland, and 2ndTeam All-Metro honors.

Mr. Lichtfuss went on play both basketballand lacrosse in college at Washington & LeeUniversity. There he was a 4 year varsity mem-ber on the basketball team earning 3 time 1stTeam All-Conference as well as Associated PressHonorable Mention All-America in 1974 acco-lades. As a team captain, he still ranks 5th asone of their all-time career scoring leaders with1,592 points and was the team’s Most ValuablePlayer in 1973 and 1974. Skip was also a 4 yearletter winner in lacrosse where he earned statusas a 4 time 1st Team All-Conference, 2nd TeamAll-America in 1972, and 1st Team All-Americain 1973 and 1974. This same lacrosse teamwas ranked #2 nationally in 1974 and appearedin 2 consecutive NCAA Final Fours in 1973 and1974.
