A girl named Rebecca
moves to New Orleans, be-
cause her father is in China for business
work. She moves in with her Aunt Claudia,
in a small house. There is a cemetery at
the bottom of the hill, close to her house,
where she sees a ghost girl. She comes
back soon to find out who she is, and dis-
covers a long line of dark secrets about the
Bowman's, her rich neighbors. Everyone is
believed that the Bowman's have a genera-
tional curse. Can she help to break the
curse? Will she find a way to help the ghost
get to where she needs to be? I am not yet
finished with this book, but I am halfway
through, and very excited to continue read-
ing.

Today’s Top Music by Kadyn Chastain
A lot of people in this genera-
tion like to listen to pop. Pop
music is a broad genre that
covers the current artists on
the Billboard charts. Billboard magazine has
been rating songs and albums for decades! The
current top artists include Taylor Swift, Meghan
Trainer, Maroon 5, and Ed Sheeran. For example,
the week of September 21, 2015, Taylor Swift has
the #1 song, "Wildest Dreams," in the top 100.
Right now the #1 artist is "The Weekend," the
week of September 21, 2015 . People I know like to
use music for dancing. Here at TPJHS I know that
the most danced to song is "Watch Me," also
known as "Whip/Nae Nae." From my perspective,
the music of today is much better than older music
from other generations. Is it possible that every
generation of young people think this way? My
grandparents don't like my music, but they love
what they listened to when they were young. Per-
haps each generation believes their music is the
best! So do you like this generation's music better
than others?
TN Ready...Why? by Hannah Morris
What is “Tennessee Ready?” Recently the state of Tennes-
see has changed the way we will do our yearly testing.
This new testing is called TNReady (Tennessee Ready) .
Previously, our state adopted a new testing method about
every six years, but this time we did it at year four. Edu-
cators have been learning and teaching the current stan-
dards, but why do they have to change so early? Massa-
chusetts changed to a new program in 2013 and shortly
afterwards surrounding states started switching.
Well, Tennessee jumped on the train of changing.
I think there are two main reason we have switched to
this program. One of the two reasons is that many of the
states around us have switched to a new testing pro-
gram. Our state governor, William Haslam, has suported
the new testing system. His support has played a major
role in the switch. Another reason is that educators say
we need a better test to match the stanards. This test is
also supposed to show how well Tennessee students really
do understand the standards. We now have some input
from parents, educators, and students this program ef-
fects. One 7th grade student said, "I think if the test was
in the same format as the TCAP it would be okay. Some
students may not like it because they are not tech-
equipped." This states both sides of the problem that oth-
ers are concerned about.
One parent stated, "Not all kids are equipped for technol-
ogy. This could be a major problem." Another problem
with the new testing system is how many things could go
wrong with online testing. Educators are doing their best
to adapt to the new program that has been presented to
them. So what was the real cause of TN Ready? There
were many variables put into this change, but being able
to compare our scores accurately was a big part. I also
think we decided to change, because we, as Tennes-
see, didn't want to be left behind. We appear to be influ-
enced by other states. Some say for better, and some say
for worse.

Cubs are Back! by Chase Hunt
Who's ready for basketball season for the Cubs? I know I am. Our first game is at Coker Creek and our second game is at North Middle. JV games start at 4:00 for the girls and 5:00 for the boys. Varsity games will be at 6:00 for the girls and 7:00 for the boys. Many people have asked Coach Abernathy and I how the team is looking. Coach Abernathy said, "The Tellico Plains Jr. High boys' basketball team has been excited to get back in the gym after reclaiming the county championship after twelve years. The excitement for basketball is in the air this year as we had over 35 kids try out for the team; of those who tried out, 16 were chosen for the team. These 16 boys have been working hard three days a week, which started in September. We began practice five days a week starting in October in an-ticipation of the upcoming season. We have some newcomers as well as many players returning from last year. Dale Rinehart is the only returning starter so we will be welcoming four new starters. Those four new starters are: 7th grader Evan Harris and 8th graders Blake Burgess, Kobe Walker, and Logan Tallent. We've had a very productive off sea-son and all if these boys have put in lots of hard work. We have some newcomers, Josiah Millsaps and Dalton Merrell, who will be competing for start-ing positions. Major Carter, a 6th grader, will look to crack the starting lineup this year and play a pivotal role as well. The depth chart seems to be shaping up as we get ready to start our tip-off tour-nament at Philadelphia Elementary School. Chase Hunt, Logan Cox, Jace Lynn, Ethan Teague, Clifton Cruz, Ayden Lemarr, Kaleb Moore, and Landon Hollinghead will all be pushing for playing time this season although they have all shown lots of hard work and determination already. We are deter-mined to be better every day; better players, better students athletes, and better young men. This year could be a very special as we have the potential to become the county champs for the second year in a row! We are using the hashtag #cubnation this year for any event that we will be involved in. Hope to see everyone st the games cheering on our cubs. Thank for everyone's support and GO CUBS!!!!"

B-Ball is Back in Session by Jocey Yates
Well, basketball season is back so I recently in-
terviewed Coach Lacey Woods about our girls basketball
team. She gave us some very good answers to go with our
tough questions. Here are some of the questions that we
asked Coach Woods:
Roar: On average, does the school team win?
Coach Woods: Yes, as far as I know we have always had
a winning record.
Roar: How is the 2015-2016 team doing?
Coach Woods: It is going great! We are getting ready for
the new season, and the girls are working really hard.
Roar: What is the team's strength?
Coach Woods: I think our team's strongest point is how
hard they are willing to work. I know they get tired some-
times, but I watch them push through the fatigue to get
better everyday. They rarely complain and are always
willing to do whatever we ask.
Roar: What is the team's weakness?
Coach Woods: Our team's biggest weakness is that we
are young. We have no starters returning this year, and
we only have two experienced eighth graders. Even though
we are young, I know these girls are capable of stepping
up and meeting whatever challenge comes our way.
Roar: How are the teams looking this year?
Coach Woods: I think our boys and girls teams are going
to do well this season. We will have some battles, of
course, but I know each team is able to rise to the occasion
and do what it takes to put ourselves in a position to win.
Roar: Do you think that we are going to have a good sea-
son this year? Why?
Coach Woods: I definitely think we will have a good sea-
son. These girls want to win and are willing to do what it
takes to be successful. I am very proud of them. I love
watching them develop their skills each season. I have
already seen so much growth and leadership developing. I
know these girls want to win, and we will.
Roar: So lets hope the team keeps up the good work.
On November 5th, we play at Coker Creek. The
JV games start at 4:00 for the girls and 5:00 for the boys.
The varsity games start at 6:00 for the girls and 7:00 for
the boys. So lets hope the girls and boys keep up the good
work and that they meet the coaches expectations.
iPhone 6S by Jonathan Ervin
The new IPhone 6s is here. This
new phone from Apple has 70% faster Wi-Fi con-
nection compared to computers. It has a new 3D
touch which tells how much pressure you are put-
ting on the screen. For all you high security folks
they have a new Touch ID for your phone that lets
you use your finger print for security. I know I
don't want my sibling on my phone! It uses the
same grade aluminum as they do in the aerospace
industry and the screen has the most durable glass
of any smart phone. It even has a new built in fea-
ture that lets you see what happens right before
and right after you take a picture so those special
moments can be that much more special. If you
don't know where you would get one of these new
phones you can get them at ATT, Sprint, T-Mobile,
Verizon Wireless, and various other places. If you
are interested in getting one remember that it
comes in four unique colors, gold, silver, space
gray, and rose gold.

Amazon Prime: Is it worth it?
by Chase Hunt Is Amazon Prime worth it? In some circumstances,
yes, it is worth it. If your family likes to buy lots
of items online it would be a cheap way for you to
get those items shipped fast, plus you get free mu-
sic and video streaming. Any order $35 or over
ships free on ground shipping, but if its below $35
it may not ship free. There are some excluded
items. If you don't like to buy a lot of stuff online
you would be paying ninety-nine dollars a year for
no reason. Look at it this way, if you shop online
once per month and save an average of $12 ship-
ping, the membership pays for itself in less than 9
months, plus you get the music and video service.
However, if you shop online once or twice per year,
you could still get free shipping if you waited a bit
longer for your order.
Did you know...your mobile phone has more computing power than the computers used for the Apollo 11 moon landing?

Clashin’ with the Clans by Jonathan Ervin
Clash of Clans is a medieval war based strate-gic game. The main objective of the game is to
upgrade your buildings (bases) and to destroy
enemy forts using archers and wizards. You
will be attacking and getting attacked regularly
and will be getting resources to upgrade your
base with. Like the name suggests, you will be
able to join a clan and fight with your clan in
clan wars for gold and elixir (two of the games
resources). Do keep in mind that you will need
Wi-Fi to play this game. This game is rated E
for everyone and is for free in all play stores for
phones, tablets, iPad, and iPods. It is rated 4.5
stars on the Google Play store and has over
100,000,000 downloads, so you know you will
always be able to interact with someone. Even
some staff members at our own school play this
game, so you know it is good. In my personal
experience with this game, I have found out
that it is very hard to get gems (things that
speed up or even completely finish upgrading
buildings) after the beginning, so save those for
later. If you need to know you will be able to get
gems by destroying trees, rocks and, various
other objects.

A Visit to the Past by Taylor Davis
Helen Keller House is a wonderful place to go and
there are a ton of things to do for little ones. It could
be a wonderful, historical experience for your entire
family. Our very own Roar reporter, Hannah Mor-
ris, has been to Helen Keller house. I asked her just
a few questions.
In our interview I asked her a few questions
that I thought were essential facts for our readers to
know. "What is the most memorable moment?" Han-
nah responded with "Getting to use the pump where
she found hope again. It was absolutely fascinat-
ing."
See it is just a great place to visit over fall
break. The trip is a little over four hours if you go
through Huntsville, also through Huntsville is a
space museum just off the interstate. The admission
is not at all high cost, and don't forget that your
donations help the blind. Don't forget to stay safe
and to have fun.

Cool Career by Kaylie West Have you have ever thought about the career of
cosmetology? Some cosmetologists are self-employed
and already have the creativity before they start
their schooling. They do very many different things
for their job like cutting hair, nails, eye brows, and
many different things for their occupation.
During schooling you should learn how to perm
someone’s hair, color, cut, and how to style it. You
will probably need to know how to paint nails. The
nails will include manicures, pedicures, and nail
enhancements. It is important that you have the
creativity to be able to paint designs. Cosmetolo-
gists get paid around $10.91 per hour ,and they
make about $22,700 per year, on the national aver-
age.
Now, if you have ever thought about being a cos-
metologist, then maybe you will one day fix some-
one’s hair for prom or something. If you do not know
where they are, there are even local cosmetology
schools, including Sweetwater and Athens.
