T@PP FEST ONLINE

WELCOME!None of us are strangers to The Internet, are we? We know Google like we know a close relative, don’t we?

And since March 2020 we’ve become more familiar with Online Platforms than (possibly) ever before, haven’t we!

So, in the spirit of all things screen based, welcome to TaPP Fest Online.

68 performers and technicians, under the guidance of 5 guest artists, will work together to make performance experiences, using Zoom, Teams, Skype, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitch, TikTok, Snapchat, Bambuser, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Blogs, Vlogs, Sways… or something else they haven’t encountered yet.

As an audience you can expect to make decisions about the outcome of a story, you’ll meet characters who will try to hinder your success at solving clues, you’ll be invited to imagine the future by understanding the past, some

of it will be about you, about us, about now. Some of it will be about not knowing and isolation, about walking, about disparate landscapes, about going, leaving, arriving and being. There’ll be moments that

disturb as we try to work out our fate and you’ll be forgiven for forgetting that we can never truly believe everything we see online.

New Adelphi Theatre welcomes artists Josh Cannon, Andrew Crofts, David Crowley, James Monaghan and Carran Waterfield, as they each make new work with Theatre and Technical Theatre students for TaPP Fest Online 2021.

T@PP Fest Online is dedicated to the lasting memory of our friend and graduate Liam Byrne. Liam graduated from Salford in 2015 with a first class honours degree in Contemporary Performance. Through the generosity of Liam’s family the In Memory of Liam Byrne: A Maker of Extraordinary Things award marks the ambitious work Liam used to make. Students are eligible to apply for the award to support their growing practice.

We’re delighted to be supporting the charity 500 Acts of Kindness this year, with all funds raised through ticket sales going to the charity who support families or organisations in need.

Who exactly is Anne?An infl uencer?

The subject of trolling? The result of capitalism?

23 years since the release of the text, see a selection of Martin Crimp’s ‘Attempts on Her Life’ scenarios plunged into the world of social media - from Instagram

stories to TikToks. Inviting you to piece together the fragmented and bewildering text, ‘Attempts on Our Lives’ is a live-streamed theatrical adventure into the

imagined online world of Anne, bringing Crimp’s text to life. The highly digital, highly mediatised world of the 21st century brings new relevance to Crimp’s 20th century

text.Join the live stream where we will take you on a journey, from the hilarious to the

terrifying, as we question Anne’s online identity and the state of our own identities in the networked world we fi nd ourselves in.

We want you to look at life through another lens.

“Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.”-Betty Davis in All About Eve

On January 21st, we will reverse engineer fi lm – a medium that draws on life’s beauties and imperfections – turning the camera back on reality at the end of a

very strange year.

Cast, shot and premiered all in one night, Shoot Me! is a Hollywood inspired search for the authentic, real me and you. Join us as we step into the frame to tell the story of our own lives – from opening scene to closing credits – on the

big (laptop) screen.

Andrew Cro s - Director I work across interactive theatre, game design and performance technology. I am a founding member of e Larks, a company fascinated by gaming structures and the power in giving an audience agency within theatrical worlds. I also work as a lighting and video designer with companies at the forefront of testing the nature of theatre, most regularly with imitating the dog, and others. from individual artists to major touring companies and festivals.

Alicia Deighton - Assistant Director/Production TeamI have always been a creative at heart. I have had the opportunity to perform in over thirteen plays, an advert, and a short lm throughout my career. From doing a speech at the Royal Exchange, to nding producing, writing, and modelling, the creative industry has always been my rst love. I am now interested in being as versatile as possible and creating my own work, alongside collaborating with others. I would love to generate opportunities for young people as my career progresses.

Bethany Pennington - Digital Engagement Some of my previous acting work includes background work in a ‘ e Voice’ advert, an Adidas advert, ‘Hollyoaks’ and ‘ e Stranger’. My onstage theatre credits are multiple dance awards and shows that have taken place at e Lowry, performing ‘ e Crucible’ at e Lowry with a drama school and many showcases within college and university.

Ellie-Jane Young - Visual DesignerAs an actor I have performed in productions such as ‘Ghost’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’. I love being on stage, but also enjoy the behind the scenes aspects of theatre. I have particularly enjoyed being part of the visual design team for this project and I hope to take the skills learnt further into my career.

Freya Aughton - Assistant Director/Production TeamI have been involved in performance from a young age - from performing with my dance academy for ten years to directing a promenade performance inspired by the most iconic Shakespeare scenes. Harry Bailey -Assistant Director/Production Team I have always enjoyed a variety of theatre genres, performing in iconic musicals like ‘Grease’ or historical plays such as ‘ e Madeline Whitewash’. I have also been involved with many original pieces! I have a great interest in directing theatre and am currently directing ‘Made in Dagenham’. Creating theatre in a festival like this, and being able to work alongside my peers as an Assistant Director is an amazing opportunity!

Harvey Beauchamp - Assistant Director/Production Team I am 20 years old and from a small town in Cheshire called Congleton. I consider myself hard working, determined, resilient and creative. Working as a team comes naturally for me and I relish in triumph. eatre credits include Dewie Finn in ‘School of Rock’ and I have directed multiple scenes and adapted one.

I have also shadowed various roles backstage on productions such as: ‘Legally Blonde’ (UK Tour), ‘Dirty Dancing’ (UK Tour) and ‘Cinderella’ (Northern Ballet).

Jasmine Brown - Digital Engagement My passion for performance stemmed from a young age from being in a theatre school. My knowledge and drive developed further through studying arts within education, (secondary up to degree level). I am currently developing my path towards on-screen acting and wish to pursue this in the near future. By working with guest artists on devised work, I have gained many skills and cannot wait to put them to use in many more productions.

Janna Dee Cooper - Visual DesignerActing is a passion that I love and have studied for years. I have been involved in multiple devised performances such as ‘When the Bough Breaks’. I like to give myself new roles in di erent projects to test myself and expand my knowledge around and in performance. I am very determined to become a screen actor in horror, drama and mystery themed lms.

Kathryn Frost - Digital Engagement I started my acting journey when I was 9 at Burnley Youth eatre and took part in many shows with them. Performing is something I love doing and in the future I would like to use everything I have learnt in practice.

Mary Mahoney - Visual Designer Acting has always been a passion of mine from a very young age. Starting out in an amateur theatre company, in summer shows and multiple pantos, to being part of National Connections, e Yorkshire School of Acting, multiple productions throughout school and sixth form and even being an extra in Season 2 of Ackley Bridge. In the future I would like to expand my knowledge in the arts, and venture into stage, screen and directing.

Since then I have been in many shows such as ‘Oliver,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and even had the chance to perform on the West End! Since coming to university I have found that the particular route I want to go down in my career is dark and twisted theatre and lm.

objects in the mirror are closer than they appear. 0161 gone is an interactive, online theatrical experience:

one taxi. one car crash. one dead driver, one missing girl. now, one month later, members of the surrounding community will gather online to try to connect the clues and conspiracies together. was she murdered? is she haunting us? or has one runaway girl gotten exactly what she wanted? to disappear...

from the discomfort of your own home, grab your laptop or phone and join us for an unnerving hour of uncertainty. be careful who you trust and don’t forget to turn off your lights...

Ben Morris“Walking is deeply ingrained in me from my childhood, from walks through the woodlands, taking on many an adventure. Therefore, I’m hoping to learn more on local history and exploring who stood before me on these lands.” Cameron Ferguson

“I used to walk to clear my head when struggling with my mental health and I found myself really getting in touch with my brain and my body. I have deep emotional memory with walking and I feel like I can really connect with the material.”Damon Hutchinson-Mann

“I spent a large amount of time walking during the first lockdown, through Kersal Dale, alone with my thoughts and feelings. My intent with my walk is to elaborate on my experience whilst keeping it vague enough for an audience to relate.”

Fiona Ellis “Walking releases my innermost thoughts and, especially in this time of isolation, it’s good to sit and think through all you have been through as a person and come out so strong whilst learning about yourself.” Harley Peers

“With my walk, my goal is to link my personal experiences with the audiences to show that we are never truly alone. We all begin and finish at the same location, but the journey can change in a multitude of ways.”

Emanuel de Jesus“Walking is one of my favorite activities. It increases energy, happiness and it’s a time where ideas can be put in order, so I think this is a path full of possibilities.”

Isobel Campbell“I am interested in making theatre that represents people and tells personal stories. I enjoy the creative freedom that Carran is offering for me to discover creative ways to portray our individual ideas.” Kara Luke

“I have always loved walking and in my walk I’ll be incorporating the themes of family and environment, along with the medium of music, lip-sync and dance.”

Lily-May Jones-Williams“I am interested in the simple notion of going for a walk and the internal, complex conversations that can come with it. I’ve walked EVERYWHERE my whole life. I’m a pro

walker which also makes me a pro thinker.”Marcus Cameron

“Walking has always been an escape for me. It’s cathartic. I can remember walking through Delamere Forest with my family when I was young and feeling free of everything holding me back.”Simon Beech

“Due to my experience of in house theatre work, the opportunity to do something outside posed a new challenge for me. The possibilities grow the further I walk, and the more I explore my relationship between myself and the outside.”

Yanzhen He“My role in ‘Just Walk’ is as technician. Through this, I am paying more attention to the way people walk and what influenced them to stop.”

Working with the simple yet complex notion of walking, our company, Life2Stage, will be providing online immersive experiences regarding the walker’s personal stories from past to present. In response to the severe constraints of separation due to 2020’s COVID pandemic, our isolated artists have been forced to spend time lost in contemplation and personal exploration. Venture through the city, or stroll through the countryside, as these disparate stories will be told through a range of artistic mediums including singing, poetry, narration and dancing, all whilst on a walk.

Our artists will be exploring their inner monologues, thoughts and personal histories, leading to a cathartic experience through going, being, arriving and leaving. Our performances and the topics explored range from family, photography, LGBTQ+, self-discovery, film and fantasy. Derived from and inspired by Carran Waterfield’s ‘Follow the Stone’, we give reflective and autobiographical stories told via different routes and journeys.
