Training Course Description Classroom courses EcoSmart Electricians EcoSmart Electricians is the national training and accreditation program that NECA has developed for licenced electricians in energy efficient electrical products, technologies and installations. This training will give you the edge over your competitors in an environment of increasing energy costs and a greater social awareness of the need for a more sustainable future. The training course is designed to familiarise electricians with the latest regulatory requirements relating to energy efficiency, energy efficient products, technologies and installation issues associated with them, together with case studies and other tools to equip them to advise and market efficient solutions to customers. Electricians who successfully complete the course will be awarded with Energy Efficiency Certification under the program. Electrical contractors employing these electricians become eligible for accreditation requirements under the program. EcoSmart Electricians EcoSmart Electricians is the national training and accreditation program that NECA has developed for licenced electricians in energy efficient electrical products, technologies and installations. Costing and Estimating Date: Friday, 24 August and Friday, 31 August, 2012 or: Friday, 2 November and Friday, 9 November 2012 Time: 8.30am to 4.30pm Venue: NHP, 16 Riverview Place, Murarrie QLD Trainer: Keith Sallaway Stage 1: Introduction to Estimating (8 hours) Friday 24 August 2012 or Friday 2 November 2012 The Introduction to Estimating course deals with the essential components of estimating and is designed to give the participants an introduction to the following:

Preparation of a quotation from plans and specifications

Quantity takeoffs

Material and Labour pricing

Costing the job

Tender Breakdown of costs

Tender submission letter

The participants do practical work which includes pricing the electrical installation of a dwelling and preparing the documentation for a tender submission. This will be done is class in eight hours. Stage A: NECA Member’s cost $355.00 + GST per person Non-member’s cost $595.00 + GST per person Stage 2: Advanced Estimating (8 hours) Friday 31 August 2012 or Friday 9 November 2012 This session will consist of a more detailed continuation of Part A and essentially will be a Tender submission for a medium sized commercial installation. Those who choose to do Parts A and B will have “homework” to do so that Part B can be addressed in detail in class in the following 8 hour session. The “homework” will consist mainly of Take-Off of Materials, Pricing of components etc. on prepared sheets, and review and completion of the tender being done in class on the 2nd day of the course. Who should attend?

Electricians with at least 5 years’ experience in domestic or small commercial electrical installations.

Electricians with some estimating experience, such as at foreman or supervisor level.

Electricians who are interested in starting a contracting business or who wish to enhance their estimating skills.

Course outcome; Participants will learn the basic strategies in compiling an estimate of costs associated with typical electrical installations with the benefit of having direct assistance in the processes involved. Understanding Testing Instruments Date: To be advised for October, 2012 Time: 8.30am – 12.30 pm Venue: NHP, 16 Riverview Place, Murarrie QLD Trainer: Bill Langford

This course was developed in response to industry concerns expressed by the regulator as to the standard of testing being undertaken by licensed electricians. It is designed to refresh the testing skills and provide a clear understanding and methodology for testing of the 6 mandatory tests required under AS/NZS 3000: 2007 which now includes Residual Current Devices and Fault Loop Impedance. The course also covers Voltage Drop, Faults on the MEN and Fault Current. It involves both a theory and practical component. Participants are required to provide their own testing equipment with which they are familiar. Testing equipment is checked on the day before the practical component to establish any variations from the accepted norm. NECA Member’s cost $250.00 + GST per person Non-member cost $350.00 + GST per person

Project Management (including Security of Payment) Date: Wednesday 31 October, 2012 Time: 8.30am - 4.30pm Venue: NHP, 16 Riverview Place, Murarrie QLD Trainer: Ian Hillman The course will provide a common sense, practical approach to managing contracts and therefore your business. It is designed specifically to provide both explanation to and management hints for the most commonly misunderstood principles of contract and project management.

Certificate II in Air-conditioning –Split Systems Training Course for Licenced Electricians Electrical Fitter Mechanics/ Electrical Mechanics/Systems Electricians or Electrical Apprentices who have complete Unit “2b” in the Electrical Trade Course are also eligible. This course involves the following:

a. Training to work with Single Head Split System Air-conditioners of less than 18 kilowatt cooling capacity.

b. Undertake the installation of the above Spilt Air-conditioners including the piping systems. c. Introduce additional refrigerant when required on extended pipe systems during

installation of the above Split Air-conditioners. d. Commissioning the above Split Air-conditioners after the installation is completed. e. Undertake the extraction of refrigerant from the above Split Air-conditioners prior to the

removal of the System.

Successfully complete all mandatory Assessments to receive a Certificate of Attainment. This will enable you to apply for a Restricted Split Air-conditioning Installation and Commissioning (Splits) Licence. The duration of this Course is three (3) hours per night attendance at the Training Centre for a period of 16 weeks. Alternative course delivery programmes can be negotiated. NECA Member’s cost $1,800.00 + GST per person
