    Ajob hazard is anything at work that canhurt you either physically or mentally.

    Safety hazards cause immediate injury:direct injury or trauma such as a severedfinger, puncture wound, a crushed hand,broken bones, eye damage.

    OSHA

    OSHA has the authority to makerules and standards on healthand safety in the workplace.

    OSHA inspects work sites todetermine if there are hazardsand violations of its rules and

    standards. OSHA responds to complaints

    about safety and health. OSHA issues citations and fines

    against employers who fail tomeet standards or who violate

    the law. OSHA offers training and

    technical assistance toemployers who ask abouthazards and methods ofcontrolling hazards.

    Example of an OSHA rule

    Employers must have achemical safety plan called aHazard CommunicationProgram. This requires labelson chemical containers with

    information about a productshazards.

    Workers should be instructed about chemicalshazards, and how to handle and use and storethese safely

    Job Safety and Health: KeyPoints

    OSHA requires employers to providea safe workplace.

    Its best to get rid of a hazardcompletely, if possible.

    If your employer cant get rid of the

    hazard, there are usually many waysto protect you from it.
