Supporting education and training

TransCanada has a long history of providing support for education and training in the communities where we do business – over the past five years, we’ve donated over $15 million across North America. Through these efforts, we promote innovation, build local capacity and enable communities to participate in and benefit from our activities.

Our investments in education and training vary depending on the nature, scope and location of our activities and the individual needs and interests of each community. We are guided by a strategy to help us make investment decisions that maximize the benefits for TransCanada and the communities that are integral to our business.

Building capacity in local communities

At TransCanada, we understand that the development of strong, skilled communities requires support for all stages of learning. Therefore, we take a lifecycle approach to education and training – investing in initiatives that address a variety of developmental needs. These range from programs that support early childhood development to technical training at post-secondary institutions.

At the earliest stages of learning, we support education initiatives designed to build long-term capacity in local and Indigenous communities. These are typically focused on developing literacy, numeracy and other life skills, and are often executed in partnership with local schools, charities and community organizations. By supporting these initiatives, we are helping to build a foundation for future skills development.

TransCanada’s Education and Training Program

Over Five Years…

Close to

$1 MILLION in scholarships and bursaries awarded to students to develop high-demand, transferable skills.

Participation of over

450 INDIVIDUALS from British Columbia in training as part of TransCanada’s Pathway to Pipeline Readiness Program.

$4.5 MILLION to support important research and technology development at post-secondary institutions across Canada and the U.S.

Contributing to the future workforce

TransCanada supports the development of high-demand, transferable skills within the communities impacted by our activities. We invest in universities, colleges and training organizations, partner with unions and other employment institutions, and provide students with scholarships and work experience opportunities.

TransCanada is also committed to building the industry workforce by identifying and addressing the barriers to local, Indigenous and diverse participation. Through these efforts, we help individuals and businesses access the opportunities created by our activities.

By supporting training and workforce participation, not only do we benefit the communities in which we build and operate, but we also contribute to the development of a skilled and sustainable workforce.

Advancing research and innovation

The pipelines, power plants and facilities owned and operated by TransCanada are considered to be among the safest and most technologically advanced in the industry. As part of our strategy to support education and training, we allocate millions of dollars every year to universities for research and development projects to maintain technical leadership, remain competitive, and develop the next generation of problem solvers and innovators.
