Students who don’t meet both requirements should apply as long as they are in good academic standing. If there’s something in your academic history you’d like to address, we recommend a personal statement to describe your situation and how you have prepared to succeed at UNC.

Applying for admissionFor admission and scholarship purposes, you’re considered a transfer student if you’ve completed any college-level coursework after high school graduation. This includes technical or vocational credit and anything above remedial-level coursework.

For more information, visit unco.edu/admissions/how-to-apply.

WESTERN UNDERGRADUATE EXCHANGE (WUE) RESIDENT TUITION

Your application for admission also serves as your application for WUE tuition.

To automatically receive the WUE tuition rates, you must be a permanent resident of one of the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington or Wyoming.

The WUE tuition rate applies to all terms (for part-time and full-time enrollment) — fall, interim, spring and summer. It isn’t applied for programs and courses offered through the Office of Extended Campus, as Extended Campus has separate tuition rates.

*2019-2020 undergraduate fall and spring semesters, 30-credit academic year. 15 credits per semester (30/year) allows most students to graduate in four years.1 Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Program — WUE provides reduced tuition to students who are residents of one of the states participating in the WUE program (AK, AZ, CA, HI, ID, MT, NV, NM, ND, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY). Note: Students cannot qualify for in-state residency after attending UNC as a WUE student. One would need to decline WUE and pay nonresident tuition for one year before establishing in-state residency.2To be eligible for COF rates, Colorado resident students should apply at CollegeInColorado.org.

HEALTH INSURANCE: You’re required to either have an acceptable health insurance plan or to purchase the UNC student health plan. If you’re enrolled in a comparable plan, you’ll need to request a waiver for UNC’s health plan at the beginning of each year you’re enrolled at UNC.

UNC GRADUATE SCHOOL

As a doctoral research university, UNC offers more than 100 graduate programs on campus, online or at one of our off-campus locations. We offer students the access and opportunities of a smaller university, along with the nationally recognized programs, research funding and facilities that come with being a leading U.S. university.

UNC prepares graduate students with job-specific skills, while also providing the intangible benefits of small group discussion, professors who bring work experience to the classroom, and the opportunities to explore, engage and make a difference.
