Safe Environment Database Annual Audit

According to the Pennsylvania State Law, all volunteers age

18+ must obtain certain background checks. In order to

follow the law, the Diocese of Pittsburgh maintains a Safe

Environment Database at each parish to keep track of every

and all volunteers. Over the years many updates have been

made, and all volunteers age 18 and over must complete 6

steps to be fully compliant in the database. Those steps include:

1. Completing the application in order to obtain a PA

Criminal Record Check

2. Obtaining a Child Abuse Record Check

3. Reading and signing the acknowledgement page

in the Code of Pastoral Conduct booklet

4. Reading and signing the acknowledgement page

in the Child Protective Services Law booklet

5. Attending the Protecting God’s Children Workshop

6. Obtaining FBI Clearance (New since 2015)

If you are a volunteer in specific ministries that have

direct contact with children (ex: an adult CCD volun-

teer), then you are required to complete an extra step:

7. Attend the Mandated Reporter Training

(New since 2015)

For in-depth descriptions of each step, all information

can be found on the shelves in front of the meeting

room, on our parish website, or by contacting Amy

Salera. The annual audit will be this summer and all

volunteers must be 100% compliant - All volunteers

will be mailed information. Incompliant Individuals will

be asked to not participate until all steps required are

complete. Your cooperation and understanding in this

matter is much appreciated.

Thank you so much for your time and talents.

Connect with Parish and Community

On Mission for the Church Alive: Leadership is critical to the success of our diocesan-wide program, “On Mission for The Church Alive!” Every parish needs to bring out – and invite – leaders committed to the Church, to the Good News of the Gospel, and to enthusiastic evangelization. Our goal in everything we do is to welcome all to the friendship of Jesus that lives in every Catholic parish, every Catholic institution in the Church of Pittsburgh. Look around you and see what is needed. What can you be doing to help provide and support the parish leaders of today and tomorrow? To read more, check out “On Mission for The Church Alive!” on page five of this week’s Pittsburgh Catholic and visit www.OnMissionChurchAlive.org. Follow On Mission for The Church Alive on Twitter at @PghChurchAlive. Have something to share about how your parish is "On Mission"? Use the hashtags #ChurchAlive and #OnMissionPgh.
