TRANSCRIPT

  • SAP Transportation ManagementEfficient transportation management

  • The planning, optimizing and execution of transportation is a key factor for success. Shipment costs are rising and legal requirements are being tightened. Transport service providers, forwarding agents and cargo handlers are increasingly becoming an integral part of the value chain. Tracking must be assured for valuable and perishable or dangerous goods which also require real-time geolocation.

For many companies, the flexible and reliable planning and execution of shipping activities is essential, and is in fact fully integrated into all relevant areas of the ERP system. SAP Trans-portation Management (TM) is a future-proof package that offers the following core functionality:

Transportation network planning Shipment planning and optimization Tendering for shipping services Freight fee management End-to-end monitoring of shipping routes Shipment billing processing

Handle all of your shipping processes in a single systemFor cargo handlers and logistics service providers alike, SAP TM 8.0 makes it easier to organize transportation over its entire lifecycle, improves usability, maps shipping processes more accurately, simplifies cost-based decision-making and enables the implementation of an energy-efficient transportation network. SAP TM supports shipping activities right across the board: from the initial entry of transportation requirements, via shipment planning and optimization (including tendering and execution, as required), milestone confirmations and the final billing stage.

The entire transportation process between the business partners can be planned, executed and optimized in detail. Business partners are provided with dedicated, lightweight and secure access to specific items of SAP TM data.

SAP TM subdivides transportation into the following processes:

Order management Shipment planning and optimization Shipment tendering and carrier selection Shipping and shipment monitoring Shipment planning and invoice management

In SAP TM order management, the transportation needs are entered that will then generate shipping orders. In shipment planning and optimization, shipment plans can be created either interactively or automatically on the basis of costs, shipping routes, shipping facilities and capacities. Geodata, timetables (e.g. rail) and third-party software can also be integrated. Once freight and shipment proposals are ready, carriers can optionally be selected by tender (integrated platform) and commissioned with the shipment. Alternatively, carriers can be assigned interactively or as default partners. The shipping and monitoring module permits the tracking of the current shipment status, also allowing precautionary intervention if deviations are experienced.

Plan and optimize the entire shipment process between your business partners

    Your benefits at a glance

Mapping out of a complete, end-to-end transportation process Maximize capacity usage while minimizing unladen vehicle trips Cost control within the transportation system Tracking of (hazardous) goods and geolocation

Integration of partners with communication features Full integration of other SAP components Monitoring of billing and auditing processes High levels of user acceptance, future-proof solution

  • SAP TM: a fully-integrated, robust Transportation Management System

Following delivery of the goods, SAP TM can be used to issue invoices that reference the shipment made while also handling the settlement of carrier billing.

SAP TM focuses particularly on collaborative scenarios. Accordingly, the system permits partners within the supply chain network to communicate with one another, while also ensuring a rapid and targeted response to any faults and changes occurring along the supply chain. SAP TM also supports integration with a wide range of other components

in the SAP Business Suite (e.g. SAP Event Management, SAP Extended Warehouse Management, SAP EH & S, SAP GTS) and other SAP ERP components such as Sales & Distribution, Purchasing and Financial Accounting. SAP TM is built on an open architecture and the implementation can be tailored precisely to suit your individual requirements. The holistic and systematic approach taken to the transportation process, plus the seamless integration with other SAP components, means that SAP TM can produce synergy effects and boost profitability.
