HI, HAS BARBAQUE SEASON STARTED ALREADY IN JDO CREW?I would like to say that it’s great now but got sore throat, guitarist is sitting home with fucked up ear and we play a gig the day aer tomorrow. And where the fuck is this barbaque weather?

I SUSPECT YOUR ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF PROMOTION OF YOUR BRAND NEW ALBUM "FORTUNE FAVORS THE BRAVE"? WHAT ARE THE AUDIENCE RESPONSE? ANY REVIEWS SO FAR?Yea... we are trying to promote it as much as we can.Up till now we got some single gigs booked but as soon as the summer fests season gets over (which we are part of as we play on Polish edition of Metalfest this year) we plan to do a bigger tour, maybe some shows abroad... So far we haven’t met with negative response about our new album, reviewers are mercyful and people are giving positive signals. And we like this album as well so we can’t complain.

TELL SOMETHING ABOUT THE RECORDING SESSION – HAVE YOU BEEN WELL PREPARED WHILE ENTERING THE STUDIO OR TEARS FLOATED DURING THE RECORDINGS?Rather rst way – we played these songs many times during the gigs. Of course each of us had the parts that he had to work on harder that on another, e.g. I had pretty much work with vocal parts on “Standing Tall” and “Like Heroes to the Slaughter” but the nal work was pretty satisfying (here big thanks goes to Misiek from S-Tone studio who recorded vocal tracks)

14

YOU’VE INVITED SOME SHADY GENTLEMEN ON YOUR ALBUM, WHO ARE THEY EXACTLY?

Only drinkers and thieves, that was main criteria of our choice while picking up guests,

Voltan(Leash Eye/Exlibris), Barton (Lostbone), Rufus (Corruption/Hellectricity)

and Dziki (Mech) are our good friends so it was a pleasure to invite them for doing

something on our record.

BE HONEST AND TELL WHO IS THE BIGGEST BADASS IN THE BAND? WHO IS THE BOOZER AND TROUBLEMAKER?I won’t be telling you some that we mess around like bunch of rednecks at the payment day because we don’t. Before gigs we do not do heavy drinking as we always want to be professional and give a good show because this is what people want to see and what they come for. It doesn’t mean that nothing happens on stage and there are four guys standing still – we wouldn’t forget that to ourselves. Hard parties take place aer gigs only.

IS JDO YOUR ONE AND ONLY BAND? DO YOU SING WITH ANY OTHER GUYS OR WITH ANOTHER BAND?While I was in college, I was singing in two band but this was really long ago. Now my attention is focused on JDO, but there is a side project I’m working on right now and maybe someday it will get some shapes, but in some other climate I think...

WHY DON’T YOU HAVE JACK DANIELS ENDORSEMENT YET?Because that would be too obvious. Besides I suppose they do not like us much since we’ve wrote them if we can use our previous band’s name – Jack Daniels Overdrive. You may guess what they wrote us back?

WHAT WOULD BE THE ONLY ONE SENTENCE THAT COULD RECOMMEND YOUR BAND TO SOMEONE THAT HAVEN’T MET WITH YOUR MUSIC YET?If you like booze, Pantera, Down, Black Label Society and you won’t be bothered with some Silesian spirit in our music, then we will get along with your taste.

WHAT ALBUMS DO YOU LISTEN TO RECENTLY? SOMETHING SPECIAL THAT CHARMED YOU LATELY?New Clutch is very promising, I believe it’s one of their best albums ever and the „Earth Rocker” coming from that album will be a classic some day. I’m really into Kvelertak’s record, also “Sonic Mass” of Amebix, it’s not fresh but still kicks ass.... Orchid and Planet of Zeus are also things worth to mention about. From our Polish performers I listen new aw album alternately with Anti Tank Nun one.

WHAT IS THE BEST GIG YOU PLAYED SO FAR AND WHY THIS IS THE ONE YOU REMEMBERED?I got very good memories from the gig we played with Corruption in Sandomierz – great audience and company. And two fans who came especially from Belarus! It was hard to believe. Visiting Wrocław always leaves good impression – great welcome every time we played there. e last performance that fall deep in my memory was the one we played at Desert Carnival along with Planet of Zeus and Death Denied – awesome gig and epic aer party.

WHAT WAS THE MOST BUMMER SITUATION THAT YOU OR OTHER BAND MATES WERE INVOLVED IN?Hmmm... I always do not remember such situations for a long time. Learned that from our colleagues from Death Denied, lately we entered the stage during the gig of Palm Desert having couple rolls of toilet paper and embarrassed them a bit. e coolest thing in that was that Stempel tripped over his own leg and fall in the stage. But as he’s a tough guy he stood that bravely and we kept messing around. And once, aer our birthday show in Progresja (Warsaw) we were staying overnight in the club. Jooras made himself very cozy place to sleep, but he went to the loo and fell asleep while coming back on some bench. Generally, while we are on the road and start the day from the beer always something funny happens, but extreme situation are luckily passing us over so far

What are you working on right now?I have few things on my desk at the moment but I’ll be more talkative once I nally lead them to an end. All I can tell is that besides graphics I’m working also on an animation together with Cracow’s Furious Crew.

How does your work desk look like?Really messy, lot of paper and drawing tools. All of that among caeine drinks.

Have attended any artistic schools? When it comes to drawing, I’ve learned almost everything by myself. During the years I made my own style and habits which are not always good. Some time ago I started artistic studies related to my interests.

Do you prefer digital media or traditional ways of drawing like pencil, ink etc?I grew up on old school ways and I’m bit sentimental about it. Paper, pencil and pen is always a starting point, but the nal shape is always given by using the appropriate software. Sometimes I complete my work using my PC only, but it depends on the project.

What inspires you the most, Ms Urszula?  Ms Urszula is not looking for inspirations, but nds it almost everywhere, very often in the very strange situations. Observing the reality, human nature, Arabian ornamentation in sacral buildings, coroners; stories at Discovery Investigations, contact with nature... sometimes nature is not enough so I’m helping myself with blotter, lol

Favourite artist? J.P.Witkin, C.Cunningham, D.Hirst, Wien actionist  and ABBA (should I tell the line up)

What CDs do you put to your player while you work? The range is pretty wide and I listen everything from unholy black metal through experimental avant-garde to candy pop, basically it depends on mood. Recently I listen to Agalloch, Grimes and last QOTSA album. Favourite movie?I’ve got the whole list of it: Drugstore cowboy, GiTS, Gummo, Eraserhead, Akira, Naked lunch, Lost highway, Blade Runner, Fear & loathing in Las Vegas, Silence of lambs …

Favourite cartoon character?Red Guy from ‘Cow & Chicken’. Favourite punch line?Don’t remember any. I prefer the humor of the situation.

FIRST OF ALL, CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE AT WROCŁAW CONVENT. WHERE THE IDEA CAME FROM FOR THAT, DID YOU PLAN IT?

anks! e idea for this particular show came up last year and we started the production process right aer this. Nevertheless, this fairly tales style is with us form quite a long time, e.g. while making photo session so it was not new for us and make few things much easier. We were inspired by coming back to childhood, who wouldn’t like to be a princess? We wanted to introduce something fresh to the convention, not to copy previous shows, slightly walk away from the alternative approach but stay in the same way. „ONCE UPON A TIME” LOOKS LIKE A TONS OF WORK PUT IN IT, HOW MANY PEOPLE WAS ENGAGED INTO THIS PROJECT?

In the last phase the production of the project was involving lot of people – male and female models, professional make-up artists team, Cocacabana Alternative Hairstyle Studio, the operator, the photograph, the assistants. But the head of the project was always two of us. We started working on this couple month ago. We started making the stylizations and hairstyles that later on were presented by our models – Anika was making wigs and Diana was creating outts. We are responsible for interiors arrangements, picking up the music, all this production stu. Owing to good organisaton and no time stress we made it up!

90

HAVE YOU HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH FINDING APPROPRIATE MODELS? IS IT HARD TO FIND ALTERNATIVE MODELS IN POLAND? We observe that the base of alternative models is getting bigger and bigger what makes us very happy, because it creates more possibilities. We were looking for the models for several months, the majority of girls who were engaged we knew earlier, but we didn’t want to restrict ourselves only to the people we know, that’s why we organized a casting and the response was huge. e most important thing was to pick up right models who will depict and play the fairy tales characters. FAIRY-TALE, HANDMADE CREATIONS, MAKE-UP, CHOREOGRAPHY... LOT OF WORK TO PUT TOGETHER. WHAT WAS THE MOST PROBLEMATIC AND TIME CONSUMING?

For sure designing the of the characters was pretty complicated and required lot of time, but with common support, unlimited imagination and love for what we do we could make it up together. Creativity is a part of our day to day work, we nd ourselves in what we do and it’s not a problem for us. WHERE THE INSPIRATION CAME FROM FOR SUCH STYLIZATIONS? HAVE YOU BASED ON DISNEY CHARACTERS ONLY OR SOMETHING ELSE OF MOVIE ADAPTATIONS CROSSED YOUR MIND?

We were basing on original adaptations, but we were not followed them strictly, mainly it was about to give the audience a hint to recognize the right characters. Taking into account the time and the venue of the performance, we added some hot details to that :)

DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO REPEAT THIS PERFORMANCE ON FORTHCOMING PARTIES?

With shows is like with tattoos – you do it once and can’t stop :). So yes, we plan next shows in the near future, we want to promote alternative art and we will be pleased topresent ourselves for a wider audience, who is into the tattoo culture. Beig well organized there is nothing impossible to do, every last show brings something frsh and new and creates our experience. Practice makes you perfect, we are far away from perfection but we work out hard :). All news about our activity will be publishe don our facebook proles so stay tuned. ARE YOU WORKING ON SOMETHING NEW?

Even on few things, we are full of ideas and it will be hard to pick up the next one to really start working on it. we encourage all the girls who wants to take parts in our next productions, we can make something cool togehter.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS AFTER PREMIERE SHOW IN WROCŁAW? HOW DO YOU RECKON THE WROCLAW TATTOO CONVENT?

We are very happy with the eect of our work, in fact it was not our rst show, but this year we united the forces and because the cooperation between us is great, each of us brings something fresh and new to the project. e Wrocław Convent was a great success, and the organizers did very well this time as well proposing lots of attractions – gigs, shows, lectures what makes the whole party more interesting and let it stand among the other European conventions. Having occasion, I would like to thank Tomek and Marcin for great cooperation and help with technical issues. e nal outcome of our show is also their part. anks!

This song started everything – that was a great turn, the beginning and the biggest change in 15 years old life. Black Sabbath infected me with metal (thus it was described as a hard rock these days). As it turned out, nobody found a cure for my disease :)

First time I heard this song on Polish National Radio chart and I went totally crazy about Judas Priest. I’m a die-hard fan till now... however I couldn’t even imagine then that some day we would stand on the same stage. This band created me as a metal musician. In fact this band was a great inspiration for bringing Vader to life.

Electrifying simplicity of this song is still making a goose-esh. It’s a unique band. I’ve got all their records in my collection and I wait for thier shows.

Slayer was a next step (and I think the most signicant) in my metal fan education as well as the guitarist. It was a natural evolution of this what I loved in Judas Priest, along with what I was had really been looking for: EXTREME! Slayer had the same inuence on me as it had on the hundreds of bands all over the world. After their “Show No Mercy” debut we started to move things faster in Vader and actually the history of Vade started then and lasts till now.

I was hungry for heaviness, speed and intransigence in music. Slayer seemed to be the limit. But it wasn’t. The whole “Darkness Descends album”, especially “Burning of Sodom” was more intense that anything else. I could not believe to my own ears. And the genius Gene Hoglan...

I got known about this band by accident when I was watching the Carcass show in Stockholm, 1992. They played the intro that it blew me away! I was made aware after couple of years that this had been a Dead Can Dance song. Since then I listen to them very often and almost all their albums on my music shelf.

This is a also the song that I heard once in a Polish National Radio. It took me years to nd this record especially for this song – there was no Internet these days and the cds or vinyls were extremely expensive then. I’d never been a big Thin Lizzy fan but the “Angel of Death” knocked me down and still does. That’s why this record was the part of “Revelations” promotional single.

KAT was a great inspiration for me as well as for whole Polish metal world during the year. I have an enormous respect for this band and Romek Kostrzewski’s guest appearance on our version of “Wyrocznia” that we recorded on Vader’s 25th anniversary I assume as a great moment in my modest metal life.

As Slayer had done the same a couple years before, Morbid Angel moved the bound of what I understood as EXTREME. Their style, the things thier sung about, the way they looked like... everything was right! I still love watching them live, but I think they’ve lost somewhere while keep searching for something new. “America can be discovered only once”

For many years I’ve been the fan of soundtracks and classic music, all of these that gives me similar experiences. Wagner was a contemporary Chris Young or John Williams. Addind to that fascinating design and esthetics of Third Reich... Couldn’t be dierent. Besides that this particular song shows how much the human being can be powerful, but in the other hand in teaches lowliness. It makes you thinking. Couldn’t be a better inspiration.

Hello my friend, is The Sin Company

crew very busy? What’s up in fancy boys’ team?Hello my friend! We are very into nowadays fashion trends among youngsters. We are checking how tight the man’s trousers can be and the latest designs of full caps. And whether it’s worth to wear ridding-breeches while it’s summer outside? Ok, being serious, we keeps playing gigs. Practically every weekend we are out of town to spread the rock and roll destruction. We are preparing to make another video clip and to put our newest 7 track EP to the web.

Have Mouga disbanded because you squeezed the

maximum of this band are you did not reach

your expectations?

Both reason are true actually. While we started this band, there was no need for such music in Poland. We appreared everywhere in this country, every newspaper, internet portal, radio station and any bigger show in this country. We rode this country across. Our record was released in Europe, USA and Japan, but if you don;t play there then you don’t count on these markets. Despite the fact we received great resposne for our album, we haven’t got any support that could make the expansion on these markets possible. After couple years of signing various contracts that appeared to disturb much more than help us we decided to disband. We parted ways with our guitarist and we wrote completely new songs with even bigger rock punch. We had to change the name and we chose The Sin Company.Right now we are like a 20-years old boys runing away home to be a grown man.

You’ve released two new songs and clips to it.

What next? When the full album will be

released?

The next step is another video. Following the trends we created on our own in the Internet era that rst you have to watch the music and then listen to it. During Summer we will put our EP online and on the Autumn we are heading the country with a big tour. We are also looking forward for cooperation with foreign companies. We want to sign the contract and play some shows there. At the end of the year w plan to start recording our full-lenght album

The sogs you realised are very catchy, I smell

American style there. Will the rest of the

album be in the same convesntion?

We’ve got this feature that left us after previous band – we don’t want to limit ourselves to one genre only. What was the biggest pain in the ass? Metalheads rejected us because of too much melodies, for rockers we were “too” heavy. HC stage hates us because we are not “true”. So what should we do now? Basicallyall the songs are of the genre of rock and roll punch that you will be singing everytime and everywhere, so I think that’s good, ha?

Despite the fact there are more hits on the

album, I feel more power and punch in the

sound. Who owned the production of this

record?

We were working on the album with our favourite and genius producer Jarek Toi in MAQ Records. You’re right about the record that it’s more punchy – we decided that the sound of the album will be as raw and natural as possible. You won’t nd there and drums sampling, line bass or guitar simulators. We recorded that bass using Orange guitar head and cabinet. We wanted to add the tube overdrive to the sound and use the bass to feel the space of the other guitar. We think it came up very nice and we are happy with the eect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6MXDSHdcrc

121

What about the shows? Are you still new faces on the market or

people recognize you from the Mouga era?

Leaving the past we were aware that we will be treated as a completely new band. It’s funny that on before the show people treat us like starting up amateurs, the truth is coming out after our show. We are working hard for the appraisal and a “pro” status. It’s nice to start the fresh thing again.

Do you find any time for rock’n’roll except playing it? Any funny or interesting situations from the gigs?

Whole last year was like a big rock and roll for us, so much that we had to calm down a bit. We want to see our kid’s grandchildren... hahaha. Some time ago I made the guys to work out with weightlifting. The rhythmic section are buiding their bodies now, cause they have to be badasses, don;t you think? Hehehe. We had bunch of situations, those that could kill you or make you a father unexpectedly... Till now we had’t suered yet. I will tell you the best stories in private to not make everybody jealous, haha

Who would you like to play with on

one stage?

Our dentite choice is LETLIVE – they are amazing and since we had discovered them, they bacame our one and only choice.

Phot: Marcin Pawłowski

https://www.facebook.com/TheSinCompanyOcialhttp://www.youtube.com/user/thesincompany

122

Do you make calls every morning and set up

the outfit for the day or you got the same stylist?

LOL, of course, I can’t imagine that we could have dierent clothes or fronts done another way. Can’t be! Once we cancelled the show

because the promoter couldn’t have assured us with enough stock of gel and hair spray. We demanded apologies in written!

Any new musical findings lately?

What plays the most often in your headphones?

Letlive, that I mentioned about earlier. The best thing I found recently and I recommend to get know them. Basically I like heavy sounds.

The last Dillinger Escape Plan was really good. Now the whole Sin Company is waiting for Norma Jean.

How would you advertise the music of

Sin Company to someone who doesn’t know you at all?

If your parents piss you o and can’t stand listening to them, come see our gig. You will get beaten very, very badly.

We found something really special while checking new Kidrobot products. It’s a vinyl, 7 inches Homer Buddha, inspired by The Simpsons episode “Goo Gai Pan”. The action gure is nice coloured with taste donut attributes. A big head means disconnection between body and soul, the hair clump is a symbol of great inner wisdom.
