this, last year; we have now madeamends). This evening was a truecelebration of Indian culture, food, colour, music, dance and song. Wehad a full house (over 200), withsome very special guests on theevening, including a ‘surprise’appearance from the Mayor ofHornsby Shire Council, the Hon.PhilipRuddock! Many thanks to theSinha family (Prabhat, Neena andPallavi) for making the night a hugesuccess. I know that Prabhat andNeena worked very hard on theoverall program, with Prabhatcoordinating thebroaderscheduleoftheevent, sponsorsandguests, whilstNeena focused specifically on theCultural Program. Pallavi, of coursedidawonderfuljobasourMConthenight, withmuch aplomb. There aremanyotherpeople to thank, and I’msure we’ll get a summary fromPrabhat tonight. Importantly, on thenightwewereabletodonate$10,000to Australian Rotary Health, and$2,000 to the Sri Om CareFoundation. So this was a verysuccessfulserviceeventtoo.FebruaryBoardMeetingIfyou’rereadingthistonight, wewillhave had our February BoardMeetingyesterday. Do You Know? MostRotarianshaveneverattendedaRotaryDistrictConference.Theyhavenot experienced one of the mostenjoyableandrewardingprivilegesofRotarymembership.A district conference is for all clubmembers and their spouses, not justfor club officers and committeemembers. The purpose of a districtconferenceisforfellowship, goodfun, inspirationalspeakersanddiscussionof matters whichmake one's Rotarymembershipmoremeaningful.Everyperson who attends a districtconference finds that being aRotarian becomes even morerewarding because of the newexperiences, insights andacquaintances developed at theconference. Those who attend aconference enjoy going back, yearafteryear.
EveryoneofRotary'smorethan500districts has a conference annually. These meetings are considered soimportant that the RotaryInternational president selects aknowledgeable Rotarian as hispersonalrepresentativetoattendandaddress each conference. Theprogram always includes severaloutstanding entertainment features, interesting discussions andinspirationalprograms. One of the unexpected benefits ofattending a district conference is theopportunity to become betteracquainted with members of one'sown club in an informal setting.Lasting friendships grow from thefellowship hours at the districtconference.David Croft

Out and About: Rtn Peter Douglas Thursday15thFebruary2018 The 15th of February was a milestone for one of our ex-members, who is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Narellan, Peter Douglas. Fondly remembered by our longer-term members, Peter was inducted on the 15th of February 1978 at a meeting at the RYLA camp at Bluegum Lodge in Springwood. Ever-faithful Roger Vince was Club Secretary at the time.
