- Tratos began production of Fibre-Optic cables for Italian and foreign markets.

1990’s - Tratos established a new factory for Medium Voltage cables in Catania (Italy).

- Production of Umbilical cables for oil & gas applications in partnership

with MFX du Brazil.

2000's - Tratos Limited acquired North West Cables Ltd; a UK cable manufacturing

company in Knowsley, Merseyside and their subsidiary Modular Wiring Systems

- Tratos opened branch offices in Spain, Germany and China.

Oil&Gas Cables - Upstream

Oil&Gas (Upstream)

One of the key problems is corrosive effect of the substances

during the upstream process as:

-drilling muds,

-fluids, acids,

-solvents,

-hydrocarbons and salt/sea moisture.

as well gas conductibility and potential fire risks in any of the

designated Hazardous areas can cause significant damage on

any Offshore installation.

Tratos offer a solution to this with their Dual Compound range

of Zero Halogen & Mud/Oil Resistant cables which conform

and enhance all current British and European standards

including BS6883, BS7917, IEC, NEK606 & UKOOA in both

Flame Retardant and the most enhanced Fire Resistant

version IEC60331.31 covering Mechanical Shock and Water

Spray testing.

From Refineries, LNG plant, Power stations onto transport

distribution networks. We can supply cables for :

- Power MV & LV,

-Control;

- Instrumentation,

-Telecomms copper and Fiber optic

- Data cables.

For any industrial equipment on site, we offer the complete

turnkey package of products which assists our clients

streamline their network design and increase Supply Chain

efficiency.

TRATOS is also enabled to supply onsite services for

installation & assistance to the installation phase.

Oil& Gas Cables - Subsea cables

Since 10 years ago, TRATOS began to develope own Subsea Range

of products.

With more than 40 year of experience and strong of a full range of

Testing facilities, TRATOS start to produce LOW WATER Subsea

cables range for:

- Power MV & LV;

- Fiber Optic

- Composite Power & Fiber Optic

The Tratos subsea cable range cover both applications:

-FMB – Forward Mounted Base;

-FPSO – Floating production storage and offloading

The cables have been tested extensively both in laboratory trials and

actual installations and have proven to be exceptionally reliable.

Subsea cables suit installations at depths up to 2000 metres

Page 23: Tratos Group August 2012 Tratos Oil&Gas cables

Oil&Gas Cables – Sub Sea

Subsea Optical Cables

For the first time we have manufactured a subsea single optical

cable over 19 km long. This was made possible thanks to our

recently built new production site and the installation of new

armouring and sheathing plant and winding structures capable of

handling reels with a flangediameter of up to 4 metres.

This production process hasinvolved the plant for over six

months, with 3 shifts per day and the constant engagement of a

40 people production team.

This subsea optical cable covering a distance of over 19

kilometres connects a mooring in the upper part of the

Adriatic Sea for ships transporting liquid gas to an inland

re-gassification centre.

Page 24: Tratos Group August 2012 Tratos Oil&Gas cables

Oil&Gas Cables - Umbilicals

Cables for Umbilical applications

An umbilical is a set of hoses electrical cables and tubes, that

transport hydraulic and chemical injection fluids, as well as

electrically transmitted signals and power. Its function is to activate

opening and closing mechanisms in the subsea oil and gas

production equipment monitoring the well’s characteristics

(temperature and pressure).

Tratos in JV with MFX of Brazil produces hydraulic, electro-

hydraulic and electrical umbilicals that are able to carry out

diverse activities for controlling chemical processes and injections for

subsea oil and gas extraction in wells located at depths up to 2500

metres and more. For specific application umbilicals have been

qualified for depths of 3000 metres. MFX has already produced more

than 500 km of umbilicals – all of which, from the earliest to the

most recent production, are functioning normally and fully complying

with the functions for which they were designed.

Oil&Gas Cables - Armaflex

Armaflex

Tratos Armaflex can be used in both dry and wet locations;

in ventilated, non-ventilated and ladder type cable ducting,

and is also suitable for direct burial.

Quantities start from as little as 100 mtr and up to 1500 mtr

in a continuous length. The interlocking armour is

available in both Aluminium and Galvanised Steel upon

request with a range of elements for use in automation,

control, lighting, data, coaxial, fire resistant and power.

The sheathing materials available include Low Smoke

Zero Halogen, MDPE and PVC; the interlocking armour is

available in a range of sizes with an internal diameter of

8.5mm up to 33.50mm with other sizes available upon

request.

Research & Development

Tratos, as part of a group tender has won a four year

contract worth €49 million to supply superconducting wire

for the world ITER reactor and the Japanese JT60SA.

The superconducting Cable-In-Conduit will be used in

the construction of magnets for these projects. ITER is an international project to design and build an experimental fusion reactor based on the "tokamak"

concept. The project, which is currently under construction in the South of France, is to demonstrate the

feasibility of energy production by controlled thermonuclear fusion.

The tender for the production of superconducting wire was put together by the Italian National Agency for

New Technologies (ENEA) in conjunction with Tratos and Criotec (a specialist in components operating at

extremely low temperatures). The excellent results achieved from the prototypes enabled the group to

participate fully in the tendering process on an international stage with high level competitors, eventually

leading to the award of the contract.

Tratos will be involved in the first stage of the contract, processing the specialised superconducting material,

worth €90 million and supplied by Fusion for Energy (F4E), at its plant in Pieve Santo Stefano in Italy, after

which it will be transported to Criotec near Turin for final assembly.

ICAS (Italian Consortium on Applied Superconductivity) has been formed to manage the contract. The

complete project will be coordinated and overseen by ENEA to ensure the supplied components are of the

highest quality.

Superconductivity is the ability of certain metals, alloys and ceramic materials to let electrical current flow with

no electrical resistance and energy dissipation. The critical values of temperature, magnetic field and current

density are specific characteristics of each superconductor material.

Research & Development

Tratos is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative new

MV Overhead Bare Conductor made with annealed aluminium

extruded around a supporting steel core.

With the cost of copper and aluminium base metals having risen

dramatically during the past decade and set to continue,

traditional Overhead Conductors are becoming increasingly

expensive and are also prone to theft. The new MV Overhead

Bare Conductor developed by Tratos and its partners does not

use copper, bringing the cost down. In fact the new Overhead

Conductor has wide ranging cost benefits as not only does it

come at a lower price point, but in line operational and end of life

dismantling costs are reduced.

The conductor has been developed in conjunction with Italy’s largest power company Enel SpA,

Cesi Ricerca SpA and De Angeli Prodotti SpA as a cost-effective alternative to standard

Overhead Conductors.

Even with this cost benefit, the new Overhead Conductor retains high performance levels, with the

ability to meet increased power demands, seasonal power peaks and backup of faulty feeders,

thus improving network flexibility.

Other key advantages of the new Overhead Conductor include a considerably reduced carbon

footprint during manufacture and resistance to vandalism due to its unusual structure. This

structure makes it difficult to extract the aluminium and the lack of copper contained in it also make

it less appealing to potential thieves.
