OVERVIEW

The state of Ceará is known as the “Land of Light”, in reference to the large number of sunny days, it is located in the warm and cheerful Brazilian Northeast. The raft still common along the coast of Ceará ansd it is considered one of the greatest symbols of its people and its culture. The most famous beaches in the state are: Jericoacoara Beach, Canoa Quebrada Beach and the beach of Porto das Dunas, among others that stand out with international fame.

The capital has soft breeze, a clean water sea and the annual average temperature of 27 º C guarantees fun from Monday to Monday.

The climate is tropical, hot, with annual average temperature of 27 ° C, December

and January being the hottest months and July being the coldest, but with minimal differences in temperature. In Ceará, summer lasts all year long.

In July the Fortal happens, one of the biggest off-season carnivals in Brazil. Also takes place in Fortaleza, one of the most important music festivals in the country, the Ceará Music. In June, you can enjoy the largest religious festival, with the June festivities. During this month, the typical rhythm forró is the most heard and played around the state and typical food and clothing are common in the streets and squares, especially in Juazeiro do Norte with the Juaforró festival. BEACH TENTSThere are dozens of them, mostly on the Futuro’s Beach, the preferred by the people from Fortaleza and tourists to spend the day. The beach tents offer a whole infrastructure ranging from great meals to massage, beauty salon and playground.

TRANSPORT

There are two airports managed by Infraero. The Fortaleza International Airport is the state’s largest one and handles more than 5 million passengers annually and the Cariri Regional Airport in Juazeiro do Norte, is the largest in the up-country and the busiest of the Northeast.

The buses run everywhere and have one of the lowest fares among Brazilian capitals. In urban terminals you can switch vehicles without paying another passage throughout the day. By the night prefer taxis.

ATTRACTIONS

The attractions are varied, from beaches to nightclubs, serving all kinds of tastes and visitors.

BEACH PARKIn Porto das Dunas, on the east coast of the capital, is located the famous waterpark Beach Park. Who’s going to Fortaleza need to book a day to go with friends and family to the largest water park in Brazil. It has wave pools, water slides, heated pool, pool for water sports, enchanted whitewater, giant slides. The park opens at 11:00 a.m.

CANOA QUEBRADA AND JERICOACOARAThe best option is to rent a car and go to the Pantanal Tent in Canoa Quebrada, there they serve dishes with lobster, shrimp and fish in a paradisiacal place. The major attractions are the cliffs, raft rides, horse, buggy and ATV rides. In Jericoacoara, contemplating the sunset over the dunes and visit the Holed Stone are unforgettable experiences.

CEARÁ MUSEUMIn the ten rooms of the Museum of Ceará are gathered about seven thousand pieces of furniture, clothing, twines and fossils. Among the objects are the historical hat, robe and cane of Padre Ciceroand a dagger that belonged to the outlaw Lampião. The museum, housed in a building from 1817 and listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage, promotes tours and cultural events.

PIRATE BARThe huge bar in Iracema Beach, animated by the presentation of regional bands, is amazing on Monday, the day of forró. On the other days of the week, the house works only for closed events.

WHERE TO STAY

The large concentration of hotels is around the Beira-Mar Avenue, on the beaches of Mucuripe, Meireles and Iracema, and at the Futuro Beach, around 10 kilometers from the city center.

The Fortaleza Park Hotel is the only hotel in Fortaleza with direct access to the beach, no streets to cross. The hotel offers to its guests restaurants, parking lot, swimming pool and games room, with affordable prices.

In Porto d’Aldeia Resort, leisure is the high point and the excitement is left to a recreation team that makes the days spent at the Hotel unforgettable. To the adults is reserved a special programming attractions in the panoramic poolside, bingo and ecological hikes in the 365.000m² green area of the development.

DINING OUT

The cuisine is a mix of Ceará regionality, sophistication and creativity that compose the local singularity. Many dishes are stuffed with meat and seasonal fruits, there are salads with seafood, ice cream and beverages typical of the region and a variety of flavors.

In Fortaleza the hint goes for Thursday, which is the famous day of crab, the day we eat the best crab. On this day all the beach huts receive the crustacean, the prices are quite varied. A juicy crab is sold at unit and it comes with a special sauce and a rich farofa, which is a brazilian typical dish.

CROCOBEACHThe best beach hut, with the busiest self-service buffet in the region. It has a sophisticated infrastructure, comedy shows, internet, pool with sauna and wet bar. The panoramic ocean deck is also an attractive part.

SHOPPING

Like every great capital, in Fortaleza you can find shopping malls with a big variety of shops. But as a place rich in manufactured products, most tourists look for what’s different. You can make great buys at the Central Market and at the Ceará Craft Market, which are large spaces with several choices of stores and products.

STREET MARKETThe local craft has networks, bobbin lace, embroidery and crochet, which are legacy of the Portuguese colonization. Baskets, bags, hats, carnauba straw and leather products, clay, wood

and vine also stand out. The tourists find all these products at the Center for Tourism, former Public Jail and at the Feirinha Beira Mar.

At the Fish Market of Mucuripe, you can find fish and seafood fresh all day long. There are always seasonal fruits too. The success is left to the shrimps, big, fresh and cheap. There is the option, to when you buy them, take them in tents beside and pay for them to be freshly prepared.

CURRENCYSince 1994, the Real (R$) is used as the brazilian currency. There are 6 bills: 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100

real. Now the coins are found in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents and 1 real.

The exchange of money can be made in various places, such as banks, travel agencies and exchange houses. The use of credit cards is also accepted in most shops.
