As social media has rapidly become a part of everyday l i fe i t has also gained a spot in many organizat ionsrsquo marketing plans However many organizat ions are struggl ing to f ind the best way to ut i l ize social media for their business

One such organizat ions is the Waterloo Iowa Convention and Vis itors rsquo Bureau This organizat ion works to bring vis itors to their community by highl ighting local businesses events and attract ions

Pr ior to meeting with Fourth Wal l the Waterloo CVB tr ied to reach their audience in more tradit ional ways from walk- ins at their tourism off ice to printed promotional materials

After an impromptu introduction meeting they saw a f i t with Fourth Wal l Productions and decided to take a digital approach

At the beginning of the process Fourth Wal l worked with the Waterloo CVB to outl ine goals that they wanted to reach Only with def ined goals could we begin to craft a social strategy that would work for this cl ient rsquos specif ic needs

The overal l objectives for this project were

bullA newly redesigned web presence is only useful i f someone i f is using it The Waterloo CVB wanted a way to attract their audience to their new site

bullIncrease social media presenceSocial media and especial ly Facebook is a popular platform for spreading the word about cool places The Waterloo CVB wanted something they could use on social media to keep their audience engaged

Tradit ional media has l imited storytel l ing power With many attract ions the power is in i ts unique story and the Waterloo CVB wanted to tel l those stories in the best way possible

With these goals in mind the next step was to design a digital strategy that f i ts the goals and the budget of the Waterloo CVB The result ing project was a long term video ser ies cal led TRAVEL WATERLOO

Each Travel Waterloo episode focused on an attract ion in Waterloo These ranged from a water park to restaurants from museums to a casino and even outdoor art The videos were released once per week during the summer and once every two weeks during the winter on the Waterloo CVBrsquos Facebook Twitter YouTube and blog Each Facebook post l inked back to a related blog post on the Waterloo CVBrsquos website For every episode the Waterloo CVB invested

The first episode of Travel Waterloo was produced and published by the Waterloo CVB There was an instant increase in Facebook followers Since May 2015 there have been 1162 new followers on Facebook (15 increase)

Each episode of Travel Waterloo is featured in a blog post published on the Waterloo CVBrsquos website

Overtime the performance of the each video has largely been dependent on the topic of the video
