Detoxifying Your Body and Your Life
Steven Horne, RH(AHG)
What is Cleansing?
Ê Cleansing is getting rid of what doesn’t benefit you
Ê We can cleanse our body, but we can also cleanse our life, our heart and our mind
Three Parts to “Cleansing”
1. Reducing our exposure to toxins is the most important part of cleansing
2. Using diet, fasting, herbs and hydrotherapy to help our bodies get rid of toxins is also important
3. It’s also important to cleanse our heart by letting go of the past and forgiving
Environmental Health is Essential
Ê We are part of the environment
Ê We cannot poison the air, water and soil without poisoning ourselves
Ê Our civilization is destroying the environment and poisoning it for future generations
Ê We need to think about what kind of world we are leaving for future generations
Environmental Pollution Starts in the Home A Few Unpleasant Facts
Ê Prior to the 20th century, only 1 out of 8,000 people in the United States were stricken with cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.
Ê With the myriad of chemicals introduced since the industrial revolution, the incidence of cancer has increased to 1 out of 3 people
Ê Since World War II, we have developed more than 80,000 chemicals for use in cleaners, pesticides, plastics, personal care products, industrial products and other modern day conveniences.
Ê 80% of people’s exposure to chemicals occurs in the home.
Ê A five year study completed by the EPA concluded that many homes had chemical levels 70 times higher than that of outside air.

More Unpleasant Facts
Ê EPA reports that cleaning products commonly found in the home are 3 times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor air pollution.
Ê Pesticide concentration inside the home is greater than can be explained by in-home pesticide use
Ê Pesticides may be carried in from outdoors, where they collect and remain on household surfaces such as carpets and countertops
Ê The average American home today uses more chemicals than were found in a typical chemistry lab in the early 1900’s
• The labs had strict health and safety codes for these chemicals, but we use them in the home?
Understand the Labels
Ê CAUTION – between 2 Tbs. and 2 cups can be lethal to an adult when ingested
Ê WARNING – as little as 1 tsp.
Ê DANGER – just a few drops
Laundry Detergents
Ê Commercial laundry detergents often contain harmful chemicals such as: Ê Alkyphenol ethoxlates
are endocrine disrupters and POPs
– Phosphates over-fertilize algae in lakes which kills fish and aquatic animals
– Fragrances and perfumes may affect allergies and asthma
Synthetic Fragrances
Ê Synthetic fragrances can contain dozens chemicals typically from petroleum products. They cause allergic sensitivity in a large number of people. One-third of the substances used in the fragrance industry are toxic, according to The National Institute of Occupational Safety.
Commerical Glass Cleaners
Ê Commercial glass cleaners can contain organic solvents, naphtha, and petroleum-based waxes which are neurotoxins and central nervous system depressants. These chemicals can can cause confusion, headaches, lack of concentration, respiratory irritation and symptoms of mental illness.
Ê These products may also contain phosporic acid and ammonia, which are highly corrosive.
Commercial Spot Removers
Ê Commercial spot removers contain substances that are carcinogenic, suspected of being carcinogenic, neurotoxic, central nervous system depressants, respiratory irritants, liver and kidney poisons and corrosive. They are typically fat soluble toxins.

3
Antimicrobial Soaps
Ê Antimicrobial soaps may contain toxic compunds such as the pesticide triclocarban (TTC). It is known to cause cancer and reproductive problems in mammals and is another POP. 60% of US streams contain this chemical.
Ê Another popular antiseptic — triclosan — is known to promote the growth of antiseptic-resistant bacteria, including E. coli.
Oven Cleaners
Ê Oven cleaners are very dangerous, corrosive chemicals. They can cause severe burns and respiratory distress. They typically contain ingredients that are neurotoxic and central nervous system depressants, which can cause headaches, depression, and a loss of concentration.
Toilet Bowel Cleaners
Ê Commercial toilet bowel cleaners may contain sodium acid oxalate, chlorinated phenols, and o-or-p-Dichlorobenzene, all of which are highly toxic. Sodium acid sulfate is highly corrosive. O-or-p-Dichloriobenzene is a liver and kidney poison, as well as being a powerful central nervous system depressant which can cause confusion, headaches, lack of concentration, and symptoms of mental illness.
Air Fresheners
Ê Many air fresheners are banned in California because they contain dichlorobenzene, a carcinogenic chemical that is extremely toxic, a central nervous system depressant, a kidney and liver poison. This compound is a chlorinated hydrocarbon that is stored in fat and is a POP.
Bleach
Ê The chlorine in chlorine bleach is corrosive and can damage skin, eyes, and mucus membranes. Chlorine was listed as a hazardous air pollutant in the 1990 Clean Air Act.
PCFs
Ê PCFs are chemicals are used to make products stain and stick resistant. Two examples are: Ê PFOA or perfluorooctanoic
acid, used to make Teflon products.
Ê PFOS or perfluorooctane sulfonate, a breakdown product of chemicals formerly used to make Scotchgard products.
Ê PCFs are persistent organic pollutants
Ê Sources of PCF Exposure Ê Grease resistant
packaging (microwave popcorn bags and pizza boxes)
Ê Scotchgard products used PFOS until 2002
Ê Non-stick cookware Ê Water resistant clothing Ê Shampoo, dental floss and
denture cleaners with ingredients that include the words ”fluoro” or ”perfluoro.”

Health Hazards with PCFs
Ê Carciongenic: cause liver, pancreatic, testicular, thyroid and mammary gland tumors in laboratory animals
Ê Also causes reproductive problems and liver and kidney damage in animals
Ê PFOAs have a half-life in the body of 4 years. PFOSs half-life is estimated at 8 years.
Agricultural Chemicals
Ê Many pesticides and herbicides are endocrine disruptors (xenoestrogens)
Ê Many of these chemicals were originally created for chemical warfare (that is to kill human beings)
Ê Farmers often use several of these chemicals and combining them can make the more toxic

Cleansing Your Body The Importance of Water
Ê Water is the foundation of all life
Ê Our bodies are 65-75% water
Ê All biological processes need water, including digestion, energy production and elimination
Ê Water increases the energy derived from food
Ê Water washes away waste products
Ê Adequate water intake is essential to the health of the urinary system
Ê Without adequate water urine becomes toxic and irritating to urinary passages
Your Body’s Many Cries for Water
Ê Dr. Batmanghelidj, MD was a political prisoner in Iran
Ê In trying to help a fellow prisoner suffering with an ulcer, he learned that increasing water intake alone could cure ulcers
Ê He went on to research more about how water can “cure” disease
Ê www.watercure.com
Water and Thirst
Ê Thirst is not an adequate indicator of dehydration Ê People confuse thirst with hunger Ê People try to satisfy thirst with
beverages that deplete the body of water Ê Caffeinated beverages Ê Alcohol Ê Artificial sweetened drinks
Ê In dehydration Ê 66% of water loss is from inside
cells Ê 26% is from extracellular fluids
(lymph) Ê Only 8% from blood Ê Thirst is regulated by blood levels
of water
“Diseases” Associated with Dehydration
Ê Fatigue
Ê Pain Ê Rheumatoid joint pain Ê Back pain Ê Migraine headaches Ê Fibromyalgia
Ê Digestive Problems Ê Heartburn Ê Hiatal hernia Ê Dyspepsia Ê Colitis pain Ê Constipation

Cleansing Your Heart Forgiveness and Healing
Ê Parallels between physical and emotional healing
Ê The body has to detoxify to heal and so does the heart
Ê Physical and emotional symptoms often mirror each other
Ê What cleansing is to the body, forgiveness is to the heart
4/30/11
9
Diseases Where Forgiveness May Be Necessary for Healing
Ê Cancer
Ê Heart disease
Ê Autoimmune disorders
Ê Liver diseases
Ê Gall bladder problems
Ê Chronic infections (such as UTIs)
Ê Parasites
Trespass
Ê The original legal definition of crime was “the deliberate and willful trespass against the life, liberty or property of another”
Ê We tresspass when we decide to “get” something from someone without their willing consent
Ê Trespass arises from unjust judgments that destroys equity between two or more people
Methods of Trespassing
Ê Force - Taking life, liberty or property from another person by violence or threat of violence, such as murder, assault and battery, rape, bullying and punishing
Ê Stealth – Depriving someone of life, liberty or property through covert or hidden behavior, such as stealing
Ê Deception – Taking life, liberty or property through lies and deceit, such as violating agreements, breaking promises or failing to uphold your end of an agreement
Ê Manipulation - Taking through instilling guilt, fear or shame that makes a person feel obligated to surrender life, liberty or property unwillingly in a way that benefits us but does not benefit them, such as belittling, demanding,
Forgiveness
Ê Forgiveness is the act of turning what was lost in a trespass into a gift of love
Ê It is literally “giving-a-fore”
Ê The person who suffered the loss of life, liberty or property voluntarily surrenders what was lost as an act of love
Why Forgive?
Ê Why would I chose to voluntarily give away something that was taken from me through force, stealth, deception or manipulation?
Reasons to Forgive
Ê When I “hold on” to what was lost, nothing can come into my life to replace it because energetically, I’m still attached to it
Ê The anger, resentment and bitterness I feel destroys my own health and happiness
Ê By “letting go” of what was lost, the law of the harvest means that I must receive something to replace what I gave
Ê Besides, according to the “law of the harvest” I must forgive if I desire to be forgiven, so forgiveness sets me free

Forgiveness is Not…
Ê Forgetting – many people think forgiving is trying to forget the trespass, which means they bury the hurt and pain instead of healing from it. When you forgive you can remember the trespass without the feeling of pain and loss
Ê Restoring Trust – forgiving someone doesn’t mean you have to trust them (that is, put them into a position where they can trespass against you again. Forgiveness is an act of love. Trust must be earned. You can forgive someone and still not trust them.
To Forgive You Must…
Ê Consciously recognize what you lost and feel the hurt and pain that loss caused you
Ê You must consciously chose to release or “let go” of what was lost and “give” it voluntarily to the person who “took” it
Ê You cannot feel pain, hurt or loss over something you give freely as a gift, so this eliminates any sense of hurt or loss
A Forgiveness Journal
Ê Get a blank notebook and turn it into a forgiveness journal
Ê Write in it: Ê [your first name] forgives
[person you need to forgive] completely
Ê Do this for all the significant people in your life starting with: Ê Your father and mother Ê Your self Ê Your siblings Ê Former and current lovers
and spouses
Uncovering Buried Hurts
Ê Do not assume that you don’t need to forgive anyone on your list
Ê People who think their parents or childhood were perfect often find they have a lot to forgive
Ê As you write, things will come to mind, add them to the writing: Ê [your name] forgives
[person] completely for [a specific trespass that comes to mind]
Finding Hidden Hurts with Muscle Testing
Ê Have the person say, “I have forgiven everyone who has wronged me in my life” and muscle test them
Ê If they are weak, they have trespasses they need to forgive
Ê Have them say, “I have forgiven [think of a significant person in their life] completely” and test again
Ê If they are weak, they need to do forgiveness work with that person
Ê Check them on the same list: mother, father, self, siblings, lovers and spouses
Ê Also consider business partners, former friends, etc.
Forgiveness Process Step One
Ê Have the person get into a comfortable position (lying down or sitting in a chair).
Ê Have them close their eyes and breathe deeply
Ê Have them ask out loud, “What would it feel like if I forgave [person] completely?”
Ê Ask them to tune into their body and notice what they are feeling (make sure they aren’t staying in their head)
Ê Repeat the above process until you can see their body relax, then ask them how they are feeling
Ê When they report that they are feeling good, that is peaceful, relaxed, etc., move to the next step
4/30/11
11
Forgiveness Process Step Two
Ê Ask the person if they would like to feel this way (that is relaxed, peaceful, etc.)
Ê If they say, “yes,” then say, “Then, all you need to do is forgive this person”
Ê Have them breathe deeply and say, “I forgive [name] completely” three to seven times
