The Humboldt County Agricultural District No. 3 is pleased to carry on a tradition dating back to 1885 through its production of the Tri-County Fair & Stampede. The Nevada Legislature created the Ag District #3 Rodeo Board, 127 years ago for the purpose of sponsoring an annual fair. The Tri-County Fair & Stampede has remained a northern Nevada favorite for many years because the event offers something for just about everyone.
From Friday through Sunday, there will be competition in more than twenty different divisions. Additionally, the Labor Day rodeo will offer western style excitement and action for the 91st year in a row at the Winnemucca Events Complex.
The Carnival will thrill kids and adults alike. Contests for the kids include the Winnemucca Farms potato critter competition, the annual Mini-Construction Contest and coloring and writing events.
The watermelon and pie eating contests will return. In addition, there are plenty of craft and garden displays. The annual 4-H Livestock Show and Sale will showcase the animal projects and efforts of the area youth.
The entire weekend is a favorite with many folk from the Humboldt County, Lander County, and Pershing County areas. The goal of the Ag District No. 3 members has always been to offer up family entertainment, good food and the chance to renew old acquaintances and make new ones.
You are invited and encouraged to enjoy this long standing tradition and be a part of the continuing success of this remarkable event.

Great Basin Challenge
Sunday,September 2, 2012
The Great Basin Challenge is being held in conjunction with the Winnemucca Labor Day Rodeo on Sunday, September 2. The time each event will start is listed below. It is open to young buckaroos between the ages of 0 to 12. Boys and girls will compete against each other in Stick Horse Barrel Racing, Dummy Roping, Mutton Bustin’ and Calf Riding. Silver Buckles will be given to first place winners in each event and each age group. The top 4 in Mutton Bustin’ and Calf Riding (both age groups) will compete in Sunday’s Winnemucca Labor Day Rodeo at 3:00 p.m. in the Main Arena. Contestants must wear complete western attire for evening performance
Rules: Contestants in the Stick Horse Barrels and Dummy Roping will be timed for awards. Mutton Busters and Calf Riders must ride for 6 seconds. If the rider falls off before the whistle is blown, the rider will be timed for awards. The winner will be determined by highest score. If no one scores, then the winner is the one who stays on the longest. Contestants must be ready to ride when their name is called. If contestant fails to ride within 2 minutes, animal will be turned-out.
Mutton Bustin’ - No Spurs! No Ropes Allowed, No Riding Backwards.
Officials decisions are final.

HOW CAN I ENTER?Simply fill out a pre-entry form (last page of this book) and drop it off at the Winnemucca Convention Center or the Extension Office. On the form, enter all the items you are considering for entry into the fair. Enter everything you think you will want to bring to the fair as you cannot add an item at the last minute.
WHEN IS THE PRE-ENTRY DEADLINE?All pre-entry forms are due Friday, Aug 24, 2012 at 5 pm. You can submit your pre-entry forms to the Convention Center or the Extension Office. If you have any questions, please call the Convention Center at 775-623-5071 ext. 102.
WHEN AND WHERE DO I BRING MY EXHIBITS?All exhibits may be checked in Tuesday, August 28, from 12 Noon to 7 pm and Wednesday, August 29, from 8 am to 10:30 am. Please keep in mind that judging will start Wednesday by 1:00 pm. Perishable items such as Floriculture, Fruits, Vegetables & Crops may be checked in on Thursday, August 30 from Noon to 5 pm. Check-in will be at the Events Complex in the Exhibit Hall Meeting Room. Perishable judging starts Thursday at 5pm.
WHAT IF I ENTERED AN ITEM AND DON'T WISH TO EXHIBIT IT?No problem. Simply tell the check-in clerk and the item will be deleted from the list.
WHERE DO I PICK UP MY ENTRY TAGS?Your pre-printed entry tags will be ready for you during the above check-in times in the Exhibit Hall Meeting Room at the Events Complex.
WHAT IF I MISS THE PRE-ENTRY DEADLINE?Sorry, only pre-entered items will be accepted at the fair.

How to Fill Out Your Entry Form1. Start an entry form by completing the information at the top of
the entry form. We need your name, address, city, state, zip code, county and phone number. Also check the category in which you will be exhibiting. If you are exhibiting in Open Youth or 4-H, please list your age. Please fill out forms completely and legibly.
2. List the Division, Class Number, Lot Number and Class Description for any entry in the “other” description. (See sample on the inside back cover.) Use a separate line for each entry. Use a separate form for 4-H entries and Open Youth entries. For 4-H entries, also add the project year for each item in the Class Description. That way the judges will be able to tell what your skill level is for a particular project.
3. Where Lot is "Other", list the description of your item on the entry form in the Class Description section.
4. Be sure to read the requirements for each Division you are entering. Some of these have changed from previous years. Judges will penalize items that do not follow requirements.
5. If you are not sure you are entering an item correctly, please feel free to call the Convention Center at 623-5071 ext. 102 or after hours at 421-1366.
6. Deliver or mail your entry form prior by the Pre-Entry Deadline. Due to a time crunch we will not be able to accept entry forms later than Friday, August 24, 2012 at 5:00 pm.
7. Bring your entries to the Event Complex Exhibit Hall Meeting Room on Tuesday, August 28 from Noon to 7 pm or Wednesday, August 29 from 8 am to 10:30 am. Perishable items such as Floriculture, or Fruits & Veggies may be checked in on Thursday, August 30 from Noon to 5 pm.
8. Exhibits may be checked out Sunday, September 2, 2012 from 8 pm to 9 pm, or Tuesday, September 4 from 8 am to 5 pm. Please see the Fair Board Member on Duty. Remember to bring your claim tickets.

General Rules1. The Tri-County Fair is open only to exhibitors who are residents of
Humboldt, Lander and Pershing counties, regardless of age.2. All entries except for Floriculture, Live Plants (FL2) must be made by
the exhibitor within the last two years, and cannot have been entered in previous year Tri-County Fairs.
3. The Tri-County Fair uses the Danish System, which means individual exhibits are judged one by one, on their own merits. Points and ribbon values are as follows: Purple - 10 (98-100); Blue - 7 (90-97); Red - 4 (80-89), and White - 2 (79 and below).
4. No exhibits may be removed from the building before 8 p.m. on Sunday of the Fair. Exhibits must be checked out by a Fair Board member.
5. Each item may be entered in only one Division, Class or Lot. (i.e. A pillow case on which an entrant embroidered the design and also hand-crocheted an edging may only be entered under Handwork / Needlework OR Crocheting / Knitting.)
6. Removal of judging sheets is prohibited until after 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2012.
7. Exhibits must be presented as required by Division. See the Tri-County Fair Schedule of Events for entry times. This schedule will be adhered to.
8. Disrespect shown to any award or to any judge by an exhibitor forfeits all awards made to the exhibitor.
9. Group entries will be any project completed by a group of two or more persons in any age group. Group entries will be judged on quality and will receive ribbons accordingly, but will not qualify for high point awards.
10. Superintendents and/or judges have the right to subdivide or regroup all classes for judging purposes. Judging sheets for all divisions are available on request.
11. All exhibits must be clean and in good condition.12. Any entries not following these and specific Division rules will not be
accepted. The Fair Board will make the final decision on the acceptance of any entry.
13. No food, beverages, or animals will be allowed into the Exhibit Hall.14. The owner or custodian of any type of property brought to the Events
Complex, either for exhibit or for other purposes, assumes , as a condition of its admission to the grounds, all risk of and responsibility for its loss, damage or theft. The Fair, its officers and employees cannot and will not accept responsibility or liability for any damage or injury resulting from theft, fire, the elements, accidents or other conditions or causes whether to the exhibit, property of concessionaires, vehicles on the grounds and articles left therein or any property of any nature whatsoever.

The Youth Division is open to youth of Humboldt, Lander, and Pershing counties age 6 through 19 years.
1. All divisions and classes are identical for Open Youth, 4-H, and Adult

manipulation of physical objects or any major manipulation of tones and colors
Repair of red-eye and dust spots as well as modest changes of contrast

Please mount photos securely without frames and have a sturdy wire or hook (no
string or yarn please) or hanging or will not be accepted. Please make sure wire or hook is securely fastened. Self adhesive hangers must be reinforced with multiple
layers of tape.
Please mount on cardboard or foam core, no larger than the picture being mounted.
No Construction Paper backing. No matting please. Photos will be judged on
photo only, not on mounting. Photos will not be accepted if signed or name
is on the photo (front or back).
Lots 5 and 6 should have a hard copy as well as a CD or DVD. All Websites must
run on Internet Explorer. Videos must run on Windows Media Player.
Sizes should be 5" x 7" or larger with the exception of photo essays. Photos must have
captions or titles on the back of the photo and listed on the entry form in the description
area. Caption will be printed on the entry tag. No Suggestive photos.

Please mount photos securely without frames and have a sturdy wire or hook (no
string or yarn please) or hanging will not be accepted. Please make sure wire or
hook is securely fastened. Self adhesive hangers must be reinforced with multiple
layers of tape.
Please mount on cardboard or foam core, no larger than the picture being mounted.
No Construction Paper backing. No matting please. Photos will be judged on
photo only, not on mounting. Photos will not be accepted if signed or name
is on the photo (front or back). You might try florist's putty for mounting
Photos with special effects should be entered in the Digital Arts Category.
For the purpose of this exhibit, photo special effects shall be considered as any
manipulation of physical objects or any major manipulation of tones and colors
Repair of red-eye and dust spots as well as modest changes of contrast
are not special effects
Sizes should be 5" x 7" or larger with the exception of photo essays. Photos must
have captions or titles on the back of the photo and listed on the entry form in the
description area. Caption will be printed on the entry tag. No Suggestive photos.
Tri-County Fair is not responsible for broken items.
A photo essay is a group of up to 10 photos which tell a story about the subject.
