The tribes constitute over 8% of the country’s population.

This is a very significant number, corresponding to over 10

crore Indians. The national object of inclusive development

(sabka vikas) includes the development of tribes as an

important component. The Adivasi way of life is guided by

primal truths, eternal values and a natural simplicity. Their

creations issue from the depths of time. This quality gives

their arts and crafts a timeless appeal.

TRIFED is engaged in generating livelihood

opportunities for tribal communities through marketing

development of the natural products

collected/produced or items created by them in

terms of handicrafts and handlooms. The ultimate

objective of TRIFED is socio-economic development of

tribal people in the country.

The approach of marketing development of tribal

products envisages TRIFED’s role as a facilitator and

service provider. The philosophy behind this approach

is to empower tribal people with knowledge, tools

and pool of information so that they can undertake

their operations in a more systematic and scientific

manner. It involves capacity building of the tribal

people through sensitization, formation of Self Help

Groups (SHGs) and impart training to them for

undertaking a particular activity, explore marketing

possibilities in national as well as international markets,

creating opportunities for marketing tribal products on

a sustainable basis, creating a brand and providing

other services.

TRIFED under the guidance of Ministry of Tribal Affairs would also be presenting the very innovative Van Dhan

Scheme for value addition and marketing of Minor Forest Produces before the nation this year. Sixty thousand Van

Dhan self help groups of tribal gatherers would be set up in 27 States spread over 307 districts of the country. We at

TRIFED, are sure that Van Dhan will showcase tribal commerce at its best. May I request all folks to join and support

the movement for real tribal development.

TRIFED is expanding and expanding very fast. But this scale up is to better serve the tribal cause, i.e, empowerment

and livelihood generation for tribals. From a level of 1.90 lakh man days created in 2016-17 we have now reached a

level of 13.1 lakh man days in 2018-19 through diligent implementation of schemes of procurement and marketing

of handlooms, handicrafts and forest produces. This is a big jump indeed and would not have been possible without

your support. Thank you very much. We promise to double this effort, this year.
