Small, Light, ConvenientThe TRICORDER II and the TRICORDER IIIcombination signal level meter and calibratedleakage detector each weigh only three pounds,and are small enough to be carried and used inone hand. The package is optimized forconvenient operation with such features as aside strap to reduce hand fatigue, spin knobcontrol of all functions, and a large LCD displayespecially designed to be viewed from allangles and temperatures. There is no signallevel meter more convenient or easier to usethan the TRICORDER II and TRICORDER III,which incorporates synthesized, spin knobtuning and auto-ranging input attenuators. Arange of standard channel plans are selectablefrom the front panel, or you can command theTRICORDER II or TRICORDER III todetermine what channels are active onthe system and build a plan of its own.

TheTRICORDER II performs all of the testsneeded for quality installations on activedistribution systems. The TRICORDER IImeasures signal levels and is a sensitivecalibrated leakage detector. Options add theability to data log records to memory anddownload to a PC or printer, and automaticallystore level data for FCC compliance.

TRICORDER III

The TRICORDER III performs all of theTRICORDER II functions, plus carrier to noiseratio and Hum of any active channel. TheTRICORDER III automatically measures carrieramplitude and noise, then displays the ratio inthe display window.

Hum testing on active carriers is simple. TheTRICORDER III allows you to select 60 Hz,120 Hz or low frequency noise for detailedtroubleshooting of power problems.

TRICORDER II & III

Choice of PowerThe TRICORDER II and TRICORDER IIIoperate for three continual hours per charge onits internal NiCad batteries which are fieldreplaceable. The TRICORDER II andTRICORDER III may be operated in the leakagemode, while the batteries are charged from theoptional mobile-mount (MB-1).

The leakage detection frequency is front paneladjustable from 107 MHz to 157.25 MHz in12.5 kHz steps. Calibrated leakage frequencyis front panel adjustable from 115-140 MHz in12.5 kHz steps. The TRICORDER II andTRI-CORDER III performs calibratedmeasurements on leaks as small as 5uV/meters with the precision similar to aSearcher Plus. Quarterly drive outs are easilydone with the optional mobile mount (MB-1),which includes connections for a monopoleantenna and 12VDC supply.

Delta dB

With a push of the "DELTA" button, the deltafunction automatically computes the aural-to-visual level ratios for any channel. The functioncan also be used to determine the ratio betweensystem pilot carriers or any other pair of user-specified carriers.

Leakage DetectionThe standard TRICORDER II and TRICORDERIII includes calibrated leakage measurement,and is equipped to recognize leakage testsignals that have been "tagged" by a TRILITHICCT-2 or CT-3 Channel Tag,making theTRICORDER II and TRICORDER III immune tointerference from power lines, automotiveignitions, and even leakage from overbuilt oradjacent systems.

Calibrated Leakage MeasurementThis option is available as a retrofit to existingunits which equips the TRICORDER II orthe TRICORDER III to perform annual CLImeasurements. The leakage bar graph of theuncalibrated TRICORDER is replaced with anumerical display which reads in microvoltsper meter. Sensitivity is rated at 5 uV/m whenused with a TRILITHIC AFS series calibrateddipole antenna.

Data LoggingThe Data Logging option is useful for bothFCC testing and routine, daily systemdocumentation. The TRICORDER II andTRICORDER III perform the FCC mandated24 hour level variation test unattended, onbattery power. The interval between measure-ments can be set from 1 minute to the FCC-mandated 6 hours.

Drop VerifierThe DROP VERIFIER option allows a userto quickly verity that audio/video levels foundat the "TAP", "BLOC" (ground block), or the"SET" fall within user specified limits. TheTRICORDER II and TRICORDER III autoscans the user memories, comparing eachmemory to a minimum and maximum limit thathas been preset using TRISETUP software, forthe "TAP", "BLOC" (ground block), and "SET".After the scan is completed, the TRICORDER IIand TRICORDER III will display "PASS"or"FAIL" for the location selected.

The data logging function can also be used torecord signal levels at subscriber drops and keytest points in the system. The TRICORDER II orTRICORDER Ill's non-volatile memory can holdthe aural and visual carrier levels of up to 116channels at up to 24 test sites, which may beuploaded to a PC or serial printer. As theTRICORDER II or TRICORDER III scan thechannel plan selected, it notifies the operator ofany visual carriers that do not meet user-settable level limits and any aural-visual carrierratios that exceed FCC specifications. Eachdata record is stamped with the date and timethe record was logged and labeled with aseven-digit tracking number entered by theoperator.

FCC Evaluator OptionThe new FCC EVALUATORis an internalfirmware option that analyzes data loggingrecords for compliance with all FCC amplitude-related requirements. At the end of the analysisthe FCC EVALUATORgenerates a "PASS"or"FAIL" message on the TRICORDER II orTRICORDER Ill's display, and assembles a fullFCC compliance report for uploading to a PC orprinter. The operator can also recall the levels ofall carriers that failed the tests onto the LCDdisplay, with a message that indicates whichtests were failed.
