PREZ RELEASE

As I write this, it is the end ofJuly. I have just returned fromour Club sponsored VTR inLaCrosse, Wisconsin. It was myfirst VTR and my first year as aVTR member. I joined becauseyou had to be a VTR member toattend the VTR NationalConvention. It was a greatvenue and our Club did a superjob in hosting this event. If youhave never been to a VTR youshould consider it. The nextVTR National is in DrippingSprings, Texas, next October. Acool 1200 mile or so jaunt, oneway. Definitely a big boy trip.Incidentally, I did meet a couplewho drove their early TR3A toLaCrosse, from California. Hehas adapted a cruise control forhis 3A, as well as a 4-wayflasher. One neat thing about the VTR isthat you have the opportunity tosee rare Triumphs. Among theunusual were 3 Italia’s and aGloria. I made the mistake ofentering my 3A in the ConcoursClass of the VTR car show. Inthis class the car is scored onoriginality, i.e. how they looked inthe show room when new!!Many of the Triumphs in thisclass look MUCH nicer thanwhat you would have seen in theshowroom. WOW! Pointdeductions are made for anynon-original modification such asgear shift knobs, Pertronicignition, tail pipes, hose clampsand changes to the engine

compartment or interior. I havenever seen so many TR’s withspotless engine compartments.Somehow, I managed to garner aFirst Place, TR3A Early. Musthave been a small number in myclass. Other Minnesota TriumphClub Car Show winners, in thevarious Classes, were (to best ofmy spotty recollection) JohnMyers-TR4, Bruce VanSloun-TR2,Bob Kessler-TR3, Dan Buchen-TR8 and Richard Halkyard- 2000MK1 Estate. Sorry if I missedanyone.Among the vendors LarrySanderson managed to corral andhave attending the Convention todisplay their wares: Richard Good -LiteZup Industries of Texas, 2chaps from Rimmer Bros in theUK, three representatives fromMoss Motors (including RobertGoldman-Chairman Moss Motors),and Charles Runyan, John-PaulRunyan and Dan Compston fromThe Roadster Factory. You mightwant to check out this link to TheRoadster Factory for some photosof the VTR: http://the-roadster-factory.com/Images/tempphotos/Photo-of-the-week-3.htmlA very nice wooden plaque waspresented to Minnesota Triumphsfor hosting the VTR. This will bedisplayed at our monthly meetingand kept for safe keeping with GregGelhar, our venerable Historian.Speaking of Greg, he was awardedfirst second place in the show for

his lamp made of Triumph parts.A very HEAVY lamp.As a Club we owe atremendous vote of thanks to allour members who volunteeredand expended an amazingamount of time and energy tomake this VTR happen!THANK YOU, THANKYOU, THANK YOU!

Minnesota Triumphs Meeting MinutesJuly 12th 2018

A rainy Thursday left a line of lonelyorange cones to guard the parking lotwhere all the TR treasures should havebeen. We met in a different area of Ol’ Mexicothis time. It worked ok, but most will beglad to have it back in the “regular “ spot.Approximately 47 people attended themeeting with notice of a couple newmembers joining us. Erik Paulsonintroduced us to his lovely bride Susan.Brian Pichelman, (proud owner of a 79Spit) joined us for the meeting. As the National VTR meeting wasapproaching, some last minute volunteerrequests were made and travel plans werebeing made for the trek to La-Crosse.

Attending Club officers shared theirrespective information, which is sharedwith us in the club newsletter.

VTR REPORT AUGUST 2018

WE DID IT!!!!!The 2018 VTR NationalConvention is in the books. GregThompson wished this to be thebest convention that the VintageTriumph Register had ever seen. All of us Minnesota Triumphmembers who attended are a bitprejudiced, but we all think wepulled it off. We came away fromPottsboro, TX 2 years ago allfired to do one more VTRconvention. Many thanks to thethumbs up approval from all ourmembers decision to go for it thatevening meeting in October 2016in N. St Paul. Based on hearsayin Texas that the casino in RedWing presented a great venue afew of us explored that idea oncemore. Some in the club wishedwe go “up north” for a realMinnesota experience, but afterexploring the traffic situationthrough the Metro area andconsidering our guests whommany had to dodge the traffic ofChicago, the committee decidedthat it wasn’t so much aboutgeography, but rather about thegathering our people and theircars in a very nice less congestedarea. When the LaCrosse ideasurfaced it seemed much moreperfect after the exploration andpresentation by Greg and Carol. So the 2018 Convention cameto fruition in LaCrosse. We hadthe serenity of the Mississippi onone side of our host hotel and onthe other a great view ofTriumphs that came from all overAmerica with the backdrop of ahistoric little town loaded withamenities that all Triumph ownerscould wish to have. The folks ofLaCrosse rolled out the welcomemat. We chose the dates of July 17-21 as we reviewed the historicweather conditions of that week.

And as history proved the weekwas almost perfect with coolertemperatures and very little rain. One evening the skies opened upa bit but all the cars were in thelot and secured. By next morningthe skies cleared and we weretreated to perfection once more. So many events planned bymany of our MN TR loyal alongwith road trips through the historicarea and roads proved thatboredom was next to impossible. Our hotel and staff treated all ourguests to superb service. When aneed arose they were there tocorrect or to advise how we mightcure our problem. The Radissonwas clean and always had thelook of a freshly trimmed yard. Our vendors reported that theyhad all done very well with thegoods they brought to sell andmost took large orders back totheir warehouses for shipmentback to the convention attendees. Our vendor room looked like anice little store where vendorsbrought catalogs and parts andwhere they just wanted to attach aface with the name of theircompanies. All of these folksmade our convention possible withthe donation of funds and manychose to give us parts for ourauction. So many of our memberscame forth and paid to register forthe convention, but all they didwas work for the benefit of ourout of town guests to assure thatthey were happy and satisfiedwith all. The funkana was overthe top with the Mississippi as thecenter of its theme. There werebreakfast runs, dinner runs, trolleytours, sunset paddle boat rivercocktail cruises, an autocross, aTSD, self guided tours, photo/model/and craft contests, funralleye, concours and participants

choice car show and so muchmore. The silent auction becamequite exciting as the time wascounted down to the end and thenall hands were asked to be in theair. A special award night cameafter the auction. The Friday nightbanquet proved to be perfect withall the rest of the major awardsand presentations being given. The 3 major vendors showcasedtheir companies with a shortspeech about who they are andwhat they do. The banquet endedat 9.30 PM in a record setting timethat eliminated the boredom ofhaving to go on for the normal 4+hour banquet marathons wherehalf the room exits before thepresentation of the next VTRconvention sight. The time is nowto put October 6-11, 2019 on yourcalendar for Dripping Springs,Texas (somewhere near Austin,Texas). And of course you haveto be a VTR member to go. MANY Thanks go out to somany MN Triumphs members whospent their week serving as host toall our guests from other states.Congratulations for making this theBEST VTR convention ever!!!!
