Who needs flat knit medical compression stockings?

Flat knit medical compression stockings are mainly used in the therapy of lipoedema and lymphoedema. Their special properties result from the strong material: due to the high wall stability, they are less stretchy than round knit stockings.

How do medical compression stockings work?

Medical compression stockings have precisely defined pressure distribution on the leg: the compression is strongest at the ankle and gradually decreases as it moves further up the leg.A medical compression stocking delivers its full effect when it fits like a second skin. The trained staff at specialist medical retailers will therefore measure or scan the circumferences of your customers’ legs to create a made-to-measure garment.

What is the difference between resting pressure and working pressure?

Working as well as resting pressure is exerted on the tissue. Resting pressure is the pressure continually exerted by medical compression stockings when resting without the muscles being tensed. Working pressure is the pressure that is exerted in motion – i.e. during temporary muscle tension – by the resistance of the medical compression stocking material e.g. when running.

Does a stocking made of stronger material have a higher compression class?

The material has no influence on the compression class or the resting pressure. This is why medical compression stockings made of fine and strong knitted fabric are available in the corresponding compression classes: The resting pressure is therefore always the same within a compression class – regardless of the material.However, the pressure of a medical compression stocking increases briefly while wear it during exercise. This is the working pressure. This depends on the strength and stability of the material: the stronger the material of the medical compression stockings, the higher the working pressure.
