Students returning to on-site learning has been a welcome sight this Term. I have been very proud to hear of the many students that showed resilience, to grow as independent learners during their time learning off-site earlier in the term. Staff, Students and Families have shown a great deal of flexibility, to focus on being their best at every opportunity. Community relationships have strengthened as we work together to support our children's development, both socially and academically. Our staff are very proud of our community. Together we have navigated through Remote and Flexible Learning in a safe and calm fashion.

Now is a timely reminder to continue to support your children with their reading every night. The families of our community play a huge part in ensuring our students are ready to learn and grow. With a deep understanding of the learning your child is working through, I recommend reviewing the Community Engagement tab on our website. https://truganinap9.vic.edu.au/community-engagement-in-learning/

I highly recommend viewing the Educational Resources that will support you to further understand what you can do to help your child's learning. School Review Dear Parents and Families,

The School review is characterised by collaboration. Every participant has a distinctive role and important responsibilities to fulfil. The school council president Jagruti Dave is a core Panel member of the School Review. Her role is to actively participate in PRSE ( Pre Review Self Evaluation) activities, familiarise herself with the PRSE Report and any other school data and evidence provided, identifying any questions, wonderings and highlights. She will also attend the meetings during the school review to share your voice.

Community Consultation

A constructive and transparent school review welcomes ideas from all school community members, listens to and reflects on varying opinions, and relies on inclusive engagement and accountability. Our pre-Review Self Evaluation is progressing well with successful consultation with the Truganina College Community. All students, staff and families have been invited to respond to surveys specifically designed to capture their opinions.

The model below indicates community members are important contributors to the Panel.

During consultation, the College community shared their thoughts by responding to the following key questions.

· In your experience, what has Truganina College done well?

· How do you know?

· How can we improve things further at Truganina College? What would you like in the future at the College?

This is a significant and exciting time for our school community as we gather evidence and evaluate our performance over the last 4 years at Truganina P-9 College. I look forward to sharing the PRSE process and developments with you.

College House Names Whilst students were learning from home, the college was getting prepared to show off our new college house names for the students on their return. Four beautiful college flags have been designed to help promote our four college houses. The house flags have been on display each morning on the oval so families and students could see them when arriving to school. We have also introduced a new visible to each classroom so that students can familiarise themselves with the houses.

The flags have helped me remember the names of the houses.

- Simon Le 5B

It’s nice to see the representation of Indigenous culture in the college through the house names.

- Anne Marcos

Can you match the house colours with the names? Draw a line from each flag to the name that should be on it.

Insurance & Personal Property

An update from the Department of Education & Training regarding Student Accident Insurance, ambulance cover arrangements and private property brought to schools by students, staff and visitors.

School communities are reminded that the Department of Education and Training does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents and guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs. Student accident insurance/ambulance cover policies are available from some commercial insurers. It is the responsibility of parents or guardians to look into their preferred options in this regard. The Department cannot provide advice to parents or guardians on the purchase of individual student accident policy or ambulance cover.

Private property brought to school by students, staff or visitors is not insured and the Department of Education & Training does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage. The Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.

Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include but is not limited to; iPads, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. As the Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property students, staff and visitors should be discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school. Improving Learning in Maths on Mathletics

Truganina College’s AIP Goal 1: To grow each student’s learning outcomes across all curriculum areas, with a focus on literacy and numeracy.

Year 3 teachers encourage their students to complete tasks on Mathletics. Mathletics provides students with interactive maths activities and tests at the end of each topic, so students get multiple exposures to develop their understanding on different maths topics. In addition, Mathletics includes printable booklets, so students can access more resources to practise solving questions to get a better understanding of maths.

Aneesh Kollu from 03H has won the ‘Mathletics Hall of Fame’ scoring 16,210 points. Congratulations to Aneesh for becoming Australia’s First and World’s First in earning the most points on Mathletics! Aneesh Kollu is an enthusiastic and hard working student in class 03H. He has shown the College Value ‘Learn’ by actively learning through persistence during ‘Remote and Flexible Learning’ time to achieve his learning goals. In particular, he has completed all tasks assigned to him on

Mathletics and competed with other students all around the world to earn this title. Aneesh has won the ‘Principal’s Award’ and ‘Assistant Principal’s Award’ in Week 9 Term 2 for demonstrating the College Value ‘Learn’ by embracing the challenges and achieving his learning goals.

What’s happening in Health and Physical Education at Truganina

College? Learning Intention: We are learning how to develop an engaging fitness session using our prior knowledge.

Success Criteria – I will be successful when I can:

Identify critical elements of an effective PE lesson. Develop an effective PE lesson plan. Provide feedback to another peer’s lesson plan. Reflect on the feedback I have received.

During Term 2, students actively engaged in a variety of different approaches to fitness. In weeks 9, 10 and 11, students have been able demonstrate their understanding of what they learnt throughout Remote and Flexible Learning by transferring their skills in to the classroom. Students had to create a 30 minute lesson and teach it to their peers.

In Term 2, Year 3 students were introduced to Chemical Sciences. They observed Matter and its three states- Solid, Liquid, and Gas. The students also investigated how liquids and solids respond to changes in temperature, for example melting, solidifying, evaporating and condensing. They observed these changes in a water cycle and created beautiful pieces of work on sandwich bags using their brilliant ideas. The students really enjoyed their time doing this hands-on activity. Well done Year 3!

Changes are happening!

Dear Families of Camp Australia Truganina P-9 College OSHC,

Effective from 27th July 2020 of term three, Camp Australia will no longer be collecting or dropping off the prep

children from/to their classrooms.

The team has discussed this with the School Management and decided it can be a fantastic opportunity to prepare

our wonderful prep children for the transition into grade one.

The team here believes that it is such an essential time of the year to build their independence and confidence.

This is something we focus on with our National Framework: My Time, Our Place Outcome 1: Children develop their

autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency along with Children develop knowledgeable and

confident self-identities.

We consider this adjustment to be a milestone and acknowledgement for all that they’ve achieved this year,

rewarding them with the responsibility to walk them to and from Camp Australia OSHC without supervision.

We will continue to provide the prep teachers with a list of children that are attending for that day, so you can be

assured that we haven’t forgotten about them!

We welcome your support in this adjustment and encourage communication if you have any queries.

Warmest regards,

Camp Australia Truganina P-9 College OSHC Team

Staff Profiles Get to know Kym Pianura - Year 6 Teacher

What is your favourite colour? My favourite colour is dark green because it is a calming colour and reminds me of being outdoors.

What is your favourite number and why? My favourite number is.. all of them! Numbers all have interesting features, a story of their own and when used together they create, describe and tell us amazing things!

What is your favourite book and why? My favourite book is a picture story book called Little Turtle's Big Adventure. I love learning new things and my favourite sound in the classroom is that “Ahhhhh" sound we make, when we've learned something that has been confusing before. My absolute favourite thing about teaching and learning is working with the amazing students that I am lucky enough to work with. I learn so much from the students about so many different things.
