Kok Kiat likes the benefits afforded by the Cat RM500B. “The controlled water flow saves time and
money because it only injects the required volume of water needed. Getting the precise amount of
moisture into the sand and clay mix in just one pass means we don’t have to go back through and
make additional adjustments,” says Mr Ng Say Kok, General Manager, Kok Kiat Machinery Pte Ltd.
Powered by a Cat C15 ACERT engine, the Cat RM500B has an efficient, mechanical rotor driven
system with a three-speed transmission at its heart. It is also equipped with simpler operations like
handwheel steering and control console with LCD touchscreen display, enhanced propel systems with
four steering modes for high manoeuvrability and a comfortable operator’s station. The Cat RM500B,
a unique machine which meets customers’ critical requirements in more ways than one.

to promote capability-building initiatives for the local landscaping industry.
TSL’s Associated Equipment division showcased its latest range of green products - the Goupil G3
electric utility vehicle. This was the first time the Goupil G3 electric utility vehicle made an official
appearance in the Singapore market, piquing the interest of contractors who visited TSL’s booth. This
French product is the only utility vehicle designed as electric from the outset and is easy to operate. It
is a robust work tool that can carry up to 700 kg on its deck and has a 1.1 ton towing capacity. The
ability for customisation of the vehicle to suit the needs of various applications has also made it a
versatile workhorse.
Goupil, sited in France, is a specialist designer and manufacturer of electric utility vehicles. The
design of the G3 was inspired by the forklift truck technology. 320Ah batteries mounted on the Goupil
utility vehicles are robust and built to withstand intensive usage to yield up to 100km coverage, fully
charged. The Goupil G3 is 100% electrical-driven and does not consume any fuel. When in
operation, this exceptionally environmentally friendly vehicle with 0 grams emission of C02’s costs are
low. It simply needs its batteries to be recharged. With minimal maintenance required, customers will
enjoy owning this vehicle with its economical usage and maximum returns in investment for their
operations.
Held on 24 September 2016 at Bishan – Ang Mo Kio Park, the Green Thumbs event was graced by

The Parts Counter is one of the first touch points for existing and potential walk-in customers. Their first impression of the Parts Counter is very important especially for first time customers, as it contributes to determining their buying behaviour. Our Parts Counter has not had an upgrade of its outlook for more than a decade. Only minor refurbishments were made to it in 2010. It was definitely time for a change! And change we did...in bold black, white and Cat yellow to represent the product we sell, ie Cat parts. New storage cabinets, tables and display areas all match. Our valued customers’ comfort is paramount. From a better spaced comfortable waiting area to having a cuppa of their choice whilst waiting for their parts orders to be fulfilled, our customers can either browse through our sales literature, walk around to view the exhibits on the display racks or see the latest promotions on the display screens. To keep up with the digital world with this modern concept, we have replaced on-the-wall posters with digital screens. This way, we can always showcase the latest information and marketing programs. In addition, there is a PartStore® Kiosk for customers who are interested in online purchasing. Our team is ever ready to conduct a demonstration at the kiosk and guide our customers through the steps of how easy and beneficial it is to order Cat parts online.

OXE Diesel Outboard Debuts in China and Southeast Asia!
Singapore Changi Airport’s third runway is now under development. Changi Airport currently
operates two runways for its three existing terminals and the upcoming Terminal 4. The three-runway
system is intended to strengthen Singapore’s position as an air hub and its renowned connectivity to
the rest of the world. The third runway, currently used by the military, will be converted for joint civil-
military use, increasing runway capacity for the airport’s projected traffic growth and the future
Terminal 5. This conversion includes the extension of the runway to accommodate larger aircraft and
the building of taxiways, totalling about 40 kilometres.
Problem – Poor Ground Conditions
It is vital for the ground to be stabilised before the airport facilities can be built. The initial ground was
clayey. Clay cohesive soils are low-grade construction materials which are poorly drained, and they
shrink and swell, producing undesirable settlement as subgrades. On the contrary, non-cohesive soil
types such as gravel and sand have good drainage properties but lack cohesion and spread laterally
under vertical loads. These two types of soil cannot stand alone. A combination of the two in certain
specific proportions and thorough compaction will instead achieve a stable subgrade required.
Solution
Working alongside its valued customer, Cat dealer for Singapore, Maldives and Christmas Island-
Indian Ocean - Tractors Singapore Limited’s Equipment team (headed by General Manager, Danny
Teo), studied the issues met by Kok Kiat in obtaining the right consist of the ground. Together with
experts from Caterpillar, they recommended the Cat RM500B to resolve the problem on hand with
proficiency and time saving measures.
The Cat RM500B at work
Kok Kiat deploys the rotary mixer to efficiently mix sand into clay across the hectares of land. Water
is injected into the mixing chamber to allow precise metering of water into the sand and clay mixture
to achieve the appropriate moisture content required.
On the area where the third runway and supporting taxiways will be built, multiple layers of subgrade
are required before any cement treated bases and surface course can be applied. For this
requirement, the ready-mixed soil will be used to pave a layer of subgrade of depth 200mm. A Cat
CS79B soil compactor then evens out the surface while its vibratory drum compacts the soil. This
process repeats till the required thickness is achieved.
The CS79B soil compactor is equipped with Machine Drive Power (MDP) technology, an innovative
measurement technology that informs the operator when the compacted soil meets their load bearing
specification, reducing the risk of over-compaction.
Tractors Singapore Limited (TSL) – authorised Cat® dealer for Singapore, Maldives and Christmas Island, Indian Ocean – together with Caterpillar® hosted a product showcase for its machine customers along the coastline of the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club on 22 September 2016.
At the centre of the Age of Smart Iron showcase was Caterpillar technology. This is the age where
machines, engines and parts are now made smarter, and Cat Technology ensures that machine
owners and operators are equipped with data and actionable insights that enable their operations to
be safer, more productive and more sustainable.
From booths illustrating Cat Technology solutions and machine simulators to attractive limited-period
promotional campaigns and half-hourly special lucky draws, it was an evening lined up with activities
to keep everyone engaged!
At the showcase, customers were also acquainted with attractive parts promotions for Preventive
Maintenance (P.M.) Kits, General Duty Tips, Undercarriage parts, Cat Oil and Batteries.
Representatives from Cat Financial Services were also on-site to offer quick credit approval for
equipment deals sealed that day, making it even more convenient for the customers!
The evening provided a great opportunity for our valued customers to learn more about what TSL has to offer in the age of smart iron and big data – from available products and solutions to training programmes – while networking and winding down against a magnificent view of the sunset.
The event also saw the official launch of the new Cat 320D2 GC hydraulic excavator. Powered by the Cat C4.4 electronic controlled engine, this new model is engineered for low operating costs, easy routine maintenance, high productivity and long-term durability. Featuring a powerful hydraulic system, the 20 ton excavator is exceptionally fuel efficient compared to a Cat 320D2. It is also capable of Cat technologies such as LINK (commonly known as ProductLink) and GRADE.
Tractors Singapore Limited (TSL) participated in OSEA 2016, Asia’s largest Oil and Gas exhibition which took place from 29 November to 2 December 2016. Held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, the biennial exhibition featured more than 1,300 exhibitors from 49 countries.
