Ar an 1 Eanáir 2019 bunaíodh Ollscoil Teicneolaíochta Bhaile Átha Cliath (OT Baile Átha Cliath), an chéad ollscoil teicneolaíochta in Éirinn, go foirmiúil. Tháinig Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Bhaile Átha Cliath, Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Bhaile Bhlainséir agus Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Thamhlachta le chéile go foirmiúil chun OT Baile Átha Cliath a chruthú.

Seo forbairt nua chorraitheach in ardoideachas in Éirinn. Mar mhac léinn ionchais atá ag beartú dul ar aghaidh go dtí an tríú leibhéal i mí Mheán Fómhair 2020, d’fhéadfá a bheith i measc chéad chéimithe an OT. Beidh trí phríomhchampas ag an Ollscoil Teicneolaíochta nua - Baile Bhlainséir, Gráinseach Ghormáin agus Tamhlacht, chomh maith le campais reatha ITBÁC atá lonnaithe i Sráid Chaoimhín, Sráid Aungier, Ráth Maonais, Sráid Chathail Brugha agus Sráid Bolton.

Táimid ag súil go mór le bualadh leat ag ár Laethanta Oscailte agus le haon cheist atá agat a fhreagairt maidir le roghnú OT Baile Átha Cliath!

On 1 January 2019 Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), Ireland’s first technological university was formally established. Dublin Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Blanchardstown and Institute of Technology Tallaght formally combined to become TU Dublin.

This is an exciting new development in Irish higher education. As a prospective student planning to go to third level in September 2020, you could be among the first graduates of the new TU which will have three main campus locations – Blanchardstown, Grangegorman and Tallaght – as well as the current DIT campus locations at Kevin Street, Aungier Street, Rathmines, Cathal Brugha Street and Bolton Street.

We look forward to meeting you at our Open Days and to answering any questions you may have about choosing TU Dublin!

Tá líon na mac léinn atá ag gabháil do chláir pháirtaimseartha ag méadú bliain i ndiaidh bliana. Leis na hathruithe ar an ngeilleagar, ní raibh am níos fearr riamh le filleadh ar an oideachas páirtaimseartha, agus scileanna nua a fhoghlaim nó athnuachan a dhéanamh ar scileanna chun tú féin a chur chun cinn d’fhostaithe.

Ar an 1 Eanáir 2019 bunaíodh Ollscoil Teicneolaíochta Bhaile Átha Cliath, a d’eascair as muid féin agus ár n-institiúidí comhpháirtíochta, ITBÁC agus ITB. Chuige sin, tá sraith tacaíochtaí i bhfeidhm againn chun cabhrú leat ar d’aistear foghlama. toisc go mbíonn siad ar siúl i mí an Mheithimh agus Lúnasa. Cabhraíonn sé seo leo dul i mbun oibre láithreach nuair a thosaíonn a gcuid clár.

Is cuid lárnach í an Fhoghlaim ar Feadh an tSaoil in OT Baile Átha Cliath, Tamhlacht dár soláthar clár páirtaimseartha. Tá baint ag ár gcomhpháirtithe tionscail le forbairt ár gclár. Oibríonn muid i gcomhpháirtíocht le Skillnets, Springboard+ agus grúpaí eile chun deiseanna ó thaobh cúrsaí maoinithe a sholáthar atá deartha chun scileanna agus dul chun cinn a bhfuil géarghá leo i réimse na fostaíochta a sholáthar. Putting Choice on the CurriculumEvery year over 3,000 students register for part-time and continuing education programmes in TU Dublin Tallaght. For some it is an opportunity to gain additional professional qualifications to help them develop their career prospects. Others are fulfilling personal goals as part of their own lifelong learning journey by taking the opportunity to gain a third level qualification as a mature student. Many students return to education for the first time since leaving secondary school. Whatever the reason for enrolling, TU Dublin supports and helps students achieve their goals by providing a wide range of flexible programmes to meet their individual needs.

These include:

The Higher CertificateThe Higher Certificate is a two year programme. It is an award that provides a path into employment. It is knowledge skills-driven. It certifies that you have competence and skills in your specific area. Students with a Higher Certificate have gone on to be part of local businesses or joined one of the many multinationals located in Ireland. Some now manage their own businesses.

The Bachelor DegreeWith the Higher Certificate award you may decide to enter or continue in the workplace. Or you may take the next step on the ladder of progression. This is the one year add-on Bachelor Degree. It is another layer that links into what you’ve already done at Higher Certificate level and is a step up on the ladder of opportunity and qualification. This award certifies you as having an extra layer of knowledge and proficiency. It entitles you to apply or be promoted to jobs that require more expertise and some management skills.

The Honours Bachelor DegreeHaving achieved the Bachelor Degree award you may decide that this is sufficient for your needs. Or you may decide, as many students do, to progress to the follow on Honours Bachelor Degree. This is normally completed in one year of extra study. It is very worthwhile. An Honours graduate is fully-fledged with

a wide range of employment/promotional possibilities. With your Honours Bachelor Degree a management role with managerial responsibilities will certainly be within your grasp. You may be asked to lead a team or to manage a project. You are on track for a bright future with your Honours Bachelor Degree.

The Honours Bachelor Degree Direct EntryWe also offer ‘ab initio’ (direct entry) Honours Bachelor Degree programmes which are completed in 4 years. These programmes are direct entry Honours Bachelor Degree Programmes. Ideal for students who feel ready to immerse themselves in an Honours Programme from day one.

Post Graduate StudyMany opportunities are available for students to pursue Post-Graduate study. At TU Dublin Tallaght both Higher Diploma and Masters, programmes are available in part time mode.

Professional InstitutesTU Dublin Tallaght provides tuition to prepare students for the examinations at the various stages/years of a number of Professional Institutes, such as the Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Excellence Ireland Quality Association (EIQA) and the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV).

Quality Programmes & Student SupportAt TU Dublin Tallaght, we offer a wide range of career-focused Masters, Higher Diploma, Degree and Certificate programmes, which are designed to suit a variety of educational backgrounds and career aspirations. We prioritise the student experience, where we assist students in reaching their true potential, so that they can build rewarding careers and experience interesting and fulfilling lives.

If you decide that TU Dublin Tallaght is right for you, then you will benefit from programmes, which have a practical and professional emphasis; a student supportive environment; smaller group sizes; and excellent levels of lecturer access and support. Work Placements and/or industry projects form a key part of our programmes, helping you to become work-ready, and to begin or continue your lifelong learning journey.

University AwardGraduates of the Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) will receive awards from the new University.

Lifelong LearningThere are many ways the Lifelong Learning team at TU Dublin Tallaght can help you bring your learning aspirations to life. We offer a whole range of programmes in business, science and engineering. The programmes are flexible enabling you to balance family, work and study. If you are unsure what to study, we have preparatory programmes to give you a flavour of all the different subjects, so that you can decide which ones you really like before committing yourself.

We are also an educational partner on the Government’s Springboard+, apprentice programmes and other back-to-education schemes. Check www.it-tallaght.ie/parttimecourses or contact the Lifelong Learning Office for more details about these schemes.

Minor, Supplemental and Special Purpose AwardsTU Dublin Tallaght is pleased to offer a number of accredited awards that recognise the successful completion of smaller parcels of learning in a range of subject areas. These are particularly relevant to those who may not, for various reasons, be able to commit to longer programmes.

Progression with flexibilityThe ladder of progression from Higher Certificate to Bachelor Degree to Honours Bachelor Degree offers students three qualifications. Each qualification is self-contained. Each qualification opens its own opportunities in employment and further study. At the same time each qualification is part of a ladder of academic progression from Higher Certificate right through to Honours Bachelor Degree. It is a system that combines the flexibility to exit to the world of work at two points (at Higher Certificate and at Bachelor Degree) and at the same time an opportunity to gain three excellent qualifications. Naturally, the higher the qualification the greater the employment opportunities and prospects.

Modular Learning: More Flexible and ManageableThe great attraction of the programmes delivered by TU Dublin Tallaght is that they are delivered as a series of modules. A module is a discrete unit of learning. When individual modules are completed, you gain credits towards your award. In most cases, successful completion of a module will earn you five credits towards an award. To gain a major award (such as a Higher Certificate) 120 credits are normally required; for a minor award, fewer credits will be needed. All of the programmes offered by TU Dublin Tallaght has gone through

a consultation process with business and industry to ensure that the modules making up each programme are really relevant and will give you the skills you need to be able to work successfully in that field. Some of the programmes in TU Dublin Tallaght offer the opportunity to pursue your own particular interests by allowing you to choose ‘elective’ modules to suit your needs.

Programme Delivery: Flexibility gives you choiceAll part-time programmes in TU Dublin Tallaght are provided on a semester system. The system is very student friendly and takes the pressure off students who don’t like the idea of a single examination measuring the entire year’s work. There are two semesters in the academic year. This has proven very popular with students.

It means that at the end of the Winter Semester – September to January you are awarded credits on the results of continuous assessments and exams. Each module becomes the focus for the continuous assessment, project work and written assignments.

Then it’s on to the Summer Semester – February to May, again measured by continuous assessments and exams. That completes the year.

Blended Learning: Helping you Juggle Work and StudyMany programmes at TU Dublin Tallaght are delivered using a flexible blended learning approach to teaching and learning. This means that students can access learning in a range of ways, e.g. face to face or by using technology. Students have some choice about when they attend and how they receive their programme material. This allows each student to match their study with home, family, work or social commitments. Approaches to flexible delivery/blended learning include:

• Lectures being available for a module on more than one occasion in a week – you choose when you want to attend

• Day release – you attend one full day at college during the week, rather than go to evening classes

• Lecture notes and a range of other supporting resources available over the web via a Learning Management System

• Distance learning

1/2New Awards introduced to allow access to the qualifications framework

TU Dublin Tallaght offers a range of qualifications that are incorporated into the National Framework of Qualifications.

The Qualification (Education & Training) Act 1999, set out a series of steps to reform the structure and awarding of qualifications in Ireland. As part of the process the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI) was established (www.nqai.ie). One of the key roles of the NQAI was to develop and maintain a National Qualifications Framework (NFQ). Prior to the setting up of the NFQ it was difficult to compare the level and standard of the range of qualifications that existed in Ireland. When individuals presented their certificates outside Ireland they often had problems matching their achievements with other internationally recognised qualifications. The NFQ now

gives a structure that allows all education and training qualifications to be compared to each other. It allows individuals to identify how they can progress from one qualification to the next in clearly defined steps. In addition the existence of the NFQ makes it easier for employers, both here and abroad, to understand the qualifications that an individual has, even if those qualifications have been awarded outside Ireland. The National Framework of Qualifications has ten levels. Each level is based on clearly defined standards of knowledge, skill and competence. The ten levels include school, further, higher education, and university awards.

Our students are provided with a focused and targeted programme of modules that are highly regarded by both our students and employers of our graduates. Our programmes offer transformative life experiences and we recognise and welcome diversity in our lecture rooms.

For employers, the challenge is to find well qualified people who can help them overcome the tough times and come out the other side a stronger organisation. For our department, the challenge is to equip students with the skills employers are looking for.

Our programmes have always been strongly attuned to the needs of industry but now more than ever they are focused on the workplace to create added value for potential employers.

There are many openings for those with good experience and the right qualifications.

International banks and financial services firms as a whole are actively recruiting for specialist back-office type services, of which Ireland is a key provider.

There has also been a flow of accountants into senior positions within the new financial services regulatory apparatus, creating opportunities for progression and movement among ambitious and well qualified accountants to fill the vacancies.

We set ourselves very high standards right across the programmes we run and try to bring out the very best in students. The achievements by our students are great to see but just as pleasing to us is the role we play in helping to get people the qualifications they need for today’s workforce.

Innovative programmes delivering knowledge and expertiseIf running a business is challenging when times are good and markets are expanding, it is perhaps even more so when conditions become ultracompetitive. It is in times like these that having the skills and know-how to manage a business effectively becomes a vital asset.

At the Department of Management we have built up a strong portfolio of management programmes that develops students’ management capabilities in a way that closely matches the needs of industry.

While strong on theory, the management programmes are closely related to the real world of work. They are designed to address workplace challenges and give students the business knowledge and expertise to influence their organisations effectively. Many of our graduates now hold senior positions in industry.

We traditionally work with smaller classes and groups and offer an enhanced learning experience.

Located in close proximity to the M50, we also offer our part time students parking.

With most technology organisations moving their delivery platforms to a DevOps approach the shortage of people with cross sectional skills in DevOps is now acute. Developed by industry as a direct response to this need this first-ever Master’s degree in DevOps aims to fill these important talent gaps and give credit, recognition and credibility to technologists working in this field.

The programme will help to develop the DevOps professional who can balance the trade-offs between requirements and costs, understands the business needs and the importance of effective communication to stakeholders. In addition the DevOps professional will have an advanced understanding of:

• Security and how it must be pervasive across all thinking about systems

• ‘Ileitis’ and how Systems Design choices can impact on quality, deliverability and maintainability of systems

• The particular requirements of different verticals such as Banking, Trading, Security, Healthcare and so on.

• Best Practice in the Area• New and Emerging technologies in the area

Entry RequirementsThe minimum entry requirement for standard entrants to the programme is a 2:2 (GPA 2.5 or equivalent), in a Bachelor of Science in Computing (Level 8) or a cognate discipline or equivalent. The award structure will place greater emphasis on continuous assessment, practical and project work rather than on formal examinations. The aim is that participants will gain a deep understanding of the topics and content covered, and be able to demonstrate this acquired knowledge a proven competence in tests and exercises drawn from practical “real life” DevOps scenarios.

Who can apply? This programme is open to all eligible students.

Programme SummaryThe advantages of Development Teams and Operations Teams collaborating to improve the delivery of technology solutions has meant a rapid adoption of DevOps approaches to the Software Development Lifecycle. Closely associated with Lean and Agile concepts in enhancing the delivery of technology solutions, the DevOps approach has impacted very rapidly on the Technology industry.

Most existing DevOps ‘specialists’ grow or develop into their role with no formal standards or certification, and a modicum of training in the actual practice of cross functional DevOps practices. They may already be experienced, highly skilled, competent and high performers in their own field of Software Development, Computing, IT Management, or Quality Assurance but they can lack the knowledge and understanding of the other cross functional disciplines they now find themselves working with daily. This Masters programme provides participants the opportunity to understand not only the technical, but also the business and human factors at play during the high pressure demands of modern software delivery processes, which is essential in the modern discipline of DevOps.

MSc in Software Solutions Architecture (NFQ Level 9)Code: TU278

Primarily Online

An exciting part-time programme to give current and potential Software Architects the skills, theory and recognition they need to develop in their role. For the first time candidates can gain a full Masters of Science degree in this specialist area through a mixed learning process with an emphasis on practical application in the workplace.

Participant EligibilityProspective participants must either (a) be serving in the role of software architect, or (b) be aspiring to move into such a role. All participants must be resident in the Republic of Ireland and have substantial experience of IT software and systems development and implementation in team and technical leading roles. They must also have current competence to interact with development teams at a deep technical (i.e. specification and coding) level.

Entry RequirementsApplicants should have a primary degree (Level 8) in Computer Science or a cognate/science discipline. Those who do not meet this requirement will be considered on their merits if they can show a particular interest or aptitude for this area of work or if they have significant industry experience and training which shows evidence that their education and work experience is sufficient to meet the education needs of the programme and recruitment policies of the College.

Programme TimetableThe programme will start with a 3 day workshop which will involve all participants being physically present. This is seen as important to facilitate networking, experience sharing and group learning.

There is a strong awareness of the constraints on architects’ time, particularly time spent off-site. It is expected that lectures will be delivered one evening per week in term time and every 3–4 weeks there may be a requirement to hold lectures twice in that week. There will also be a requirement to attend one on-campus day at the end of each semester. Lectures will be streamed live from TU Dublin Tallaght and will be available for download and offline viewing. The award structure will place greater emphasis on continuous assessment, practical and project work rather than on formal examinations. In fact there are only 2 modules that carry an actual exam.

The programme uses role plays to illuminate architecture best practice by posing specific design problems derived from case studies and conducting group based workshops to address them. The examination of spectacular

Architecture successes and failures and the sharing of experiences through presentation and case study by the participants themselves is very much part of the process. There will be an equal emphasis in assessment between achieving grades in continuous assessments/assignments as well as in examinations.

How to ApplyApplicants should submit their CV directly to Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet at [email protected]. Participants will be required to complete registration details both for Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet and for TU Dublin Tallaght. Participants will become registered students of TU Dublin Tallaght and be awarded free membership of IASA.

Many pharma firms choose TU Dublin Tallaght when they are looking to upskill staff. They like the fact we’re flexible. We can train students here; we can offer them distance learning; or, if the group is large enough, we can go onsite to deliver the training. This flexibility applies to all of our most popular programmes including the Higher Cert in GMP & Technology and the Degree in GMP & Technology. We’ve noticed a big trend towards reskilling in recent times. For example, it’s increasingly common for people who’ve worked in the electronics industry to switch to pharma. Both our Higher Cert/Degree in GMP and the Higher Diploma in Pharmaceutical Production would cater for these ‘switchers’. TU Dublin is also involved in initiatives to improve the academic qualifications of those without a third-level qualification.

A number of large investments have been made the science area in recent years and so we are fortunate to have a lot of cutting-edge equipment here now. For example, we received a substantial grant from Enterprise Ireland which we used to purchase process analytical technology for our labs. This equipment is used extensively on our part-time programmes. We are also a heavily research-oriented department.

What Are The Career Prospects For Graduates? The biopharmaceutical industry sector in Ireland involves over 120 companies including 16 of the world’s top 20 companies and is the second most important sector in the Irish economy. The Irish biopharmaceutical industry is outperforming other sectors in the economy and continues to provide excellent opportunities for science graduates of all disciplines. An example of a leading biopharmaceutical production and research facility is the Pfizer (formally Wyeth) Biotech Campus at Grange Castle in Clondalkin. It is one of the largest integrated biopharmaceutical production facilities in the world. It
