TERM 3 Week 4
GOOD COUNSEL
PRIMARY SCHOOL
6TH AUGUST, 2019
Dear Parents/Carers,
25 years; a quarter of a century celebration
is a long time in anyone’s life. This
milestone was celebrated by three of our
staff last Friday as part of Catholic
Education Week. Mrs Lorraine
Naqicatabua, Mrs Sue Ah Shay and Mrs
Lynne Guli have serviced the Diocese of
Cairns and had a positive affect on so
many children’s lives for 25 years. They
received a special gift and letter of
congratulations from the Director - Mr Bill
Dixon. The students loved the slide show
especially seeing how clothing, school
uniforms and hair styles had changed over
the years. Congratulations ladies!
Last week Mrs Leigh Onaindia was
announced as a nominee for the Docemus
Awards, recognising outstanding work as a
School Officer. Leigh was nominated by
Good Counsel College and Good Counsel
Primary School. Well done Leigh on your
well deserved nomination.
Please take the time to read the attached
letter from Mr Ian Davis (Deputy Executive
Director) regarding my Principal’s
Appraisal and how to complete the survey
on the link provided. Apologies for the
survey overload at present but this will be
the last for awhile.

The works will include an upgrade to the
Prep HS room (extending the floor area);
massive undercroft and work room for
Prep; level two Science and Tech Centre
and the top floor will be classroom space.
Additional works will include a Queensland
Fire upgrade with pump station; lifting the
floor heights and hand rails on the senior
verandahs and a new three tier lift. These
are exciting times, however with any
building/construction works we will have
some disruption to parking/access and use
of the Prep playground while building is
taking place. I have included a copy of the
new design looking from the prep carpark.
If you know of any students who are of
Prep age 2020 and thinking of attending
Good Counsel Primary School next year,
please ask their parents to complete an
Online Enrolment Application or contact the
School Office as final interviews are taking
place this term. Pre-Prep sessions begin
on Friday 23 August and our first Pre-Prep
Parent Information Night is on Wednesday
21 August at 6.30pm.
Lids 4 Kids collects the lids for
Envision, an Australian not-for
-profit organisation that uses
3D printers to make mobility
aids for child amputees.
Please help Good Counsel
Primary School collect plastic
lids to help children in need.
Regards Liam

Thank you 5GS for the presentation celebrating the life of St Mary of the
Cross (Feast Day 8 August)—declared Australia's first Catholic saint and
canonised on October 17, 2010 at Saint Peter’s Basilica, Rome by Pope
Benedict XVI. The Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, often called
the "Josephites" or "Brown Joeys", were founded in Penola, South
Australia, in 1866 by Mary MacKillop and the Rev. Julian Tenison Woods.
Members of the congregation use the postnominal initials RSJ
(Religious Sisters of St Joseph). Thank you students and Mrs Genevieve

25 Years Congratulations...
Fabulous milestone enjoyed by Mrs Lorraine Naqicatabua,
Mrs Lynne Guli and Mrs Sue Ah Shay. Some Mary MacKillop
quotes that personify their longevity in education:
We are but travellers here.
We have much for which to be thankful.
Find happiness making other people happy.
Be calm and full of hope.
25 July 2019 Dear Staff, Parents and Caregivers of Good Counsel Primary School Innisfail During the 4th year of a principal’s five-year appointment, principals in the Diocese of Cairns are required to undertake an appraisal. This process is designed to review performance in nominated aspects of leadership and management and provide affirmation and feedback regarding quality and effectiveness of their work. Mr Liam Kenny Principal Good Counsel Primary School Innisfail is now due to undertake this appraisal process. The process will gain feedback from this community via a questionnaire and/or a face-to-face meeting with a visiting panel. The appraisal process includes the following elements:
• A survey is prepared by Catholic Education Services – Diocese of Cairns. This survey is to be completed on-line.
• All families will be provided with the weblink to access the survey on-line. All staff members are invited to participate in the survey. All respondents are asked to use the weblink to complete the survey as directed.
• Families unable to access the survey online are able to collect a hardcopy of the survey from the school/college office.
• A summary report of the on-line surveys is prepared by Catholic Education Services based on the collated results.
• A Review Panel consisting of an Independent Chairperson, the Director School Effectiveness, a Peer Principal and the Manager School Operations is convened and will meet at the school to interview the Principal, the Parish Priest, staff members and any parents who may wish to be interviewed.
• The Independent Chairperson prepares a report for the Executive Director CES, Cairns. All information gathered by the panel is confidential and cannot be used for any purpose other than the Appraisal of the Principal. The Appraisal Panel Members will be Mr John O’Brien as Independent Chair, Ms Narelle Harney as Peer Principal, Mrs Lea Martin, Acting Director School Effectiveness and Mr Paul Cazzulino Director School Operations. Please contact me if further information is required about this process by telephone on 07 4050 9700. Yours faithfully
IAN DAVIS Deputy Executive Director
