Thornlie Vs Australian Islamic College

A pleasing team effort by the Footy boys in defeating AIC Kewdale 56 to 22. Brilliant forward work from Caeden, defensive pressure from the Saunders twins and a solid performance from Tuhi. Well done to all the team. Apologies from the AIC for not bringing Netball and Soccer teams due to a staffing issue.

Thornlie Vs East Kenwick The Soccer boys had a thrilling 3-3 draw. The girls battled hard, but came up short in the Netball—East Kenwick were just too tall. Fortunately the Footy boys held up their end by winning 54 to 22 points. The highlight of the game was Caeden kicking 5 of our 7 goals.

Our next games are as follows: Friday 10 June vs Gibbs Street PS (Home) Friday 17 June vs Queens Park (Home)

Students in Rooms 6 and 8 will be participating in BUZ Power this term, focussing on the tools and skills for personal and group power especially enabling students to believe in themselves, believe that they have something to contribute and believe that others have something to contribute and respect others. This week we learnt about:

The Power to Stand up for

Something

*If you don’t stand up for something you might fall for anything. *You have power if you stand up for your own beliefs and values and respect other people for their beliefs and values. *”It takes courage to stand up to an enemy – it takes even more courage to stand up to a friend.” (Who said this? Look for the answer hidden in Scoop)

Thornlie Primary School is now a BUZ school! BUZ Life Skills is a proactive, wholesome approach that enables children to develop emotional and social well being.

The Senior Choir performed at SingFest on Wednesday 25th

May 2016. They performed two songs along with 8 other schools. It was great to see all the parents supporting this

event and a big thank you to all our senior choir members for all their hard work. You did a great job!

The Fathering Project is a core partner of The University of Western Australia who have provided significant support since our inception including administrative, financial, research and support services through the Office of Development and Faculty of Medicine.

The Fathering Project’s home is at the UWA Claremont Campus and we aim to:

Help fathers realise how important they are in a child’s life and to give them advice on how to encourage

their children.

Encourage fathers to become proactive and get involved early with their children.

Help fathers and father figures get connected in positive ways.

Reach fathers in their situation: schools, workplaces, community groups.

Utilise research-based evidence to encourage positive changes in fathers.

Highlight the strong causal link between good fathering and the reduced incidence of harmful behaviours

such as suicide, self-harm and substance abuse.

On 30 June from 5 – 7pm Dads, Grandads, Uncles & Pops are invited along with their children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews to Thornlie Primary School to participate in our very first Fathering Project Games Afternoon.

The 2 hour FREE session will involve some fun games, sausage sizzle & a drink. To participate is very easy. Simply complete the attached form and return it to school. Please include your name (eg. Dad’s name) and your children’s names for catering purposes. Parents must attend the entire session with their children and are in charge of their child’s supervision and transport to and from the school for this event. We look forward to seeing you there.
