In addition to these classes a number of our students will be performing a poem for two or an individual poem on their own. We wish them very good luck and clear articulation on the day. A huge CONGRATULATIONS to both our choirs, especially the Infants Choir who came second in the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod last Thursday in Nowra. All of our students performed beautifully and displayed excellent Milton Public School behaviour throughout the day, something they should all feel very proud of. We would like to thank Mrs Hicks, Mrs Cooney, Ms Elenius and Mrs Taffs for their dedication towards bringing our students to this event. We would also like to acknowledge all staff who have supported our participation by being flexible and understanding during rehearsals. Well done singers!

Tennis Knockout – Round 3 Win Last Thursday the MPS Tennis team travelled to Narooma to play against arch-rivals, Merimbula PS. After the four singles matches, Milton were up 3 sets to one. Thomas, William and Claire all winning their singles matches 6 to 0. Maggie fought hard to narrowly lose 6 to 4. Milton were far too strong in the mixed doubles. Both Tom and Maggie, and Will and Claire won their sets easily 6 to 1. Tom and Will were a formidable pair winning 6 to 1 in the boy’s doubles whilst the girls fought hard and were unlucky not to win their doubles match; losing 6 to 5. The students from both schools were fantastic sports and really played with great spirit and respect for each other’s abilities. Milton will now go into the semi-final of the South Coast against the strong Illaroo Road PS in the coming weeks. We wish them great luck!

Science Club So far in science club, students have discovered the forces behind energy. Recently the students conducted science experiments demonstrating wave energy...and then they were able to eat the lollies...Yummo!

The Reading Hub Mrs Goodchild has successfully created a reading hub for kindy and year 1 students before school, three days a week in her classroom. Year 6 student leaders have been trained and are supporting many, many students to practice their reading and play sight word and sound games. What a super idea Mrs G. Young students getting literacy support, older kids developing leadership skills and all kids developing strong relationships and getting in out of the cold. Brilliant work!!

Lost and Found Many small items are handed into the office—wallets, glasses, small toys, vouchers etc. Where names can be found, these items are returned but all others are left waiting for their owner to come and collect. If you or your child has lost an item at school, please come and check at the office to see if one of these small valuables may belong to you.

Genuinely seek your child’s opinion on something. Show that you value their thoughts by paying attention and discussing their ideas. Encourage your child’s creativity – it could be creating a new bike jump, an artwork, a racetrack idea… Work with them. Value their efforts, take photos and share the moment with family and friends. Tell your child something about them that is special or a talent they have. Encourage them as often as possible. COMMUNITY NEWS The following articles have been submitted for inclusion in our parent newsletter and are not part of Milton Public School curriculum.

Learning Labs in the next school holidays Little and Early Learning Labs is an enrichment program designed for students who are excelling in their area of interest within their year group, and are seeking a challenging and fun experience during the school holidays. All workshops are held over one (mini-labs) or two days at the University of Wollongong and are presented by teachers with specialist training or a specific interest in gifted education. For more details on how to apply go to the website www.uow.info/learninglabs.

It is extremely important, for the safety of all children, that parents and care givers ensure children alight from the rear footpath side door of the car and use the children’s crossing when using the Kiss and Drop zone.
