The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest and abdominal muscle groups. Alertness, precision, daring, self-confidence and self-discipline are mental traits that can also be developed through gymnastics. Artistic Gymnastics is usually divided into Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics. Men compete in six events: Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar, while women compete in four: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise. Final Outcome: The overall outcomes are to develop students’: physical and mental confidence; balance; coordination; strength; flexibility; body posture; social skills; and self-discipline. *Student numbers - 4 (minimum) to 20 (maximum)

Description of Activity (including goals):

Gymnastics is a sport that includes exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest and abdominal muscle groups. Alertness, precision, daring, self-confidence and self-discipline are mental traits that can also be developed through gymnastics. Artistic Gymnastics is usually divided into Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics. Equipment Required: Tae Kwon-Do uniform or PE kit

Cost (if any): RM180 + one-off Registration Fee of RM60 for new students only (RM240 total). Optional: Tae Kwon-Do uniform (RM120), Grading (RM70, includes belt and certificate) (It is compulsory to have a Tae Kwon-Do uniform for gradings)

Description of Activity (including goals):

Students will learn the basic Tae Kwon-Do skills and techniques e.g. blocks, punches, kicks, etc. Students will also learn self-defence techniques and execute kicks using kicking pads to improve their strength and accuracy. Basic fitness exercises e.g. running, squats, etc. will also be given to students to improve their physical strength. Mr. Kesendaran is a 4th Dan black belt holder and a qualified instructor with SMART Tae Kwon-Do Academy.

Final Outcome:

Emphasis will be placed on students’ moral development and attitude to develop students’ desirable behaviours and self-discipline by thoroughly training their body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Tae Kwon-Do. Students will be trained to recognise situations in which self-defence may be necessary and control such situations to their advantage. Tae Kwon-Do also helps to develop self-control, perseverance and self-esteem. Students will have the chance to advance to the next belt level through an official grading by the instructor.

Description of Activity (including goals):

This is an introductory course on notation/theory and practical skills. The curriculum includes learning to play different kinds of beats, strokes and fills while keeping time with a metronome. Students will learn some basic grooves used in different genres of music as well as identify and correct common mistakes that are made early on. Prepare for some fun and some challenging coordination!

Final Outcome:

Students will perform one/two songs of their choice to a minus one/music accompaniment.

Description of Activity (including goals):

This is an introductory course on theory, chords, strumming and finger picking. Students will learn instrumental music and the fundamentals in handling the instrument (tuning etc.). Upon completing this course, students will be able to perform two pieces of music in a solo setting or in an ensemble. Students are encouraged to have their own instrument at home.

Final Outcome:

Students will perform two songs of their choice at the end of the term. They will choose one song to perform as a solo piece and perform in the ukulele/guitar ensemble.

Description of Activity (including goals):

This is a beginner course where students will learn to read music and play pop piano. We cover music theory for beginners, play simple melodies with both hands, some scales and piano accompaniment. Upon completing this course, students will be able to play contemporary songs and play with others in a group. Students are encouraged to have access to a keyboard or digital piano at home in order to facilitate and enhance their learning.

Final Outcome:

Students will perform two songs of their choice at the end of the term. They will choose one song to perform as a solo piece and the group song will be decided during class.

Ballet club offers students a foundation of life skills; physical health, intellectual stimulation, confidence, discipline, and fun with music, following the syllabus of Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD) for Pre-primary and then Primary.

Final Outcome:

All ballerinas will be trained to showcase a dance performance for a school event e.g. Teacher’s Day.

Description of Activity (including goals):

Yoga for children has been shown to reduce anxiety and help children become calmer and

more focused. Yoga will help children learn to manage their emotions. In Yoga we will learn

different breathing/calming techniques and different poses. This will be taught through

moving stories (the children will use the poses to act out the stories). Children will learn

different stretching techniques through song.

Final Outcome:

Children should feel calmer and less anxious after a yoga session. They will be fitter and

healthier.

Description of Activity (including goals):

To introduce the sport of Badminton, and its rules and regulations especially to those new to the sport. Basic badminton skills shall be practiced, such as footwork, back court looping, front court lifting, and other basic skills for beginners. Advanced skills shall be taught for those that already have the required basic skills, such as back court 4 corner, front court 4 corner, smashing and others. Students shall also increase their stamina, strength, speed, etc.

Final Outcome:

To enable beginner students to fully understand the basics of badminton in terms of rules, footwork, skills and other basic knowledge. To increase both physical and mental health through badminton training.

Fun with Numeracy brings out students’ natural love of numbers and Maths. Here, students will get to engage with different Numeracy games and online interactive learning for skills including, numbers, addition and subtraction, time, measurements and money, and reading Maths counting storybooks. Furthermore, they will be introduced to the visualisation and audio elements of the focus topic. Fun with Numeracy will also sharpen their skills and create positive learning memories in Maths.

Final Outcome

Fun with Numeracy will help students to see the interesting, fun and engaging side of Maths games. Fun with Numeracy will also help enhance various Maths skills and improve their memory.

Students shall challenge themselves by competing against each other to complete word searches, puzzles and different language activities (either online or on handouts). Students can choose to be competitive or they can complete activities independently.

Final Outcome:

Skills that translate to reading and writing will be developed. Language games are a way to reinforce the vocabulary students are learning through reading, writing and teamwork. Students shall also develop their visual acuity for recognising English words and help them to learn new spellings. Besides that, these activities will also encourage young children to use their verbal skills. This can be done in so many fun, playful ways, building their confidence at the same time.

Description of Activities (including goals)

A flip book is a book with a series of pictures that vary gradually from one page to the next, so that when the pages are turned rapidly, the pictures appear to be animated by simulating motion or some other change. Students will create cards containing information and illustrations. Students will also be able to develop their art and animation skills through drawing.

Final Outcome

Flip Book Making will help students to develop their drawing skills and they will have fun by depicting the movements in their flip book. At the end of term, each student will have a flip book made by them.

Description of Activity (including goals):

The little toy robot that blends the physical and digital worlds — and teaches students programming. It starts with basic programming, as you simply train the robots to follow patterns on the surfaces that they roll over. They look a little like Pac-Man ghosts, with domes for heads. The little toy robot can identify lines, colours, and codes on both digital surfaces, such as an iPad, and physical surfaces, such as paper. Using the little toy robot in the classroom will empower students to understand that they can influence how and why technology is used.

Final Outcome:

Students shall have a better understanding of colour coded movement, it will develop their logical thinking, collaboration, and creativity and improve their problem solving when doing all the colour coded task missions.

Description of Activity (including goals):

Students will learn about the rules of chess, names of chess pieces and where they can move, how to use different pieces and strategies to their advantage, how to think a few moves ahead and how to force opponents to move where they want them to. Students will utilise and apply these skills through practice in friendly, non-competitive games against other students. Mr Avinash is the Director of Chess Wizard Empire and is a certified coach by the Malaysian Chess Federation.

Final Outcome:

The Chess Club is an opportunity for students to practice their skills and strategies in Chess. Students will pair up and play Chess against each other. Students will also have an opportunity to compete in a House Chess competition that will be arranged during the school year.

Description of Activity (including goals):

Students will learn the fundamentals of Kihon (Basics) and Kumite (Sparring), which form the foundation of Karate Do focussing on bodily self-defence. Emphasis will be placed on stances, blocks and strikes where speed, accuracy and strength will be developed. Classes will be broken into 3 segments which will include stretching, endurance and Karate training. Endurance training is designed as a variety of games to encourage students to compete with, and against, each other in the spirit of sports and to display their athletic capabilities in a friendly environment. Classes will be supervised by Sensei Ramesh, 4th Dan Black belt Hayashi-Ha Karate Do, and actively conducted by Mr Deeva, 1st Dan Black Belt Hayashi-Ha Karate Do.

Final Outcome:

Emphasis will be placed on students in terms of shaping their inner strength by way of discipline, which is the fundamental aspect of Karate. Karate ideally strives to develop a strong character and build a sense of respect to others. Students will have the chance to advance to the next belt level through an official grading by the instructor.

Throughout this activity, students will learn about different cultural dances. Students will learn how to follow dance directions, cooperate with each other, interact both physically and verbally and develop better body-music coordination and confidence to perform.

Description of Activity (including goals):

Students will be able to develop their understanding of the world. They will have opportunities to engage in a range of creative and imaginative role play situations, on their own and with others. Through dramatic activities, they will explore a range of cultural and human issues, share ideas and learn to respond to others and to the teacher in role.

Final Outcome:

Students will be able to learn the skill of storytelling in drama. Starting with simple exploration of movement and vocal expression they will quickly find themselves pretending to be characters in archetypal stories they all know. Group effort, and the necessity of building consensus, teaches empathy, cooperation and collaboration. Students will discover the value of teamwork through their exploration of drama.
