A bit about “The TuffleyThe TuffleyThe TuffleyThe Tuffley----LinkLinkLinkLink”

Dear Neighbours,

Welcome to the April edition of your Tuffley Link.

As I’m writing this the sun is actually out, I can see blue sky, the nights are getting lighter and it

feels as though Spring may be just around the corner. With the Easter holidays now upon us, lets

hope that the weather now starts to take a turn for the better.

As the weather starts to improve, this is the time of year when we start to venture outside again

and start working on the out door jobs that we have put off during the Winter months. If it’s jobs

for your garden that you need help with, we have some great landscape gardeners and garden

maintenance companies on board who can help you bring

your garden back to life. See the index on page 22 for more

details. If you are unsure where to start this month,

Garden Delight write us an editorial full of monthly handy

hints and tips for your garden maintenance - have a read

on page 17.

If it’s more property maintenance that you might require

help with, again we have a full list of companies that can

help you in this area in our index on page 22.

Finally if you are thinking of having a conservatory , now

is the ideal time in preparation for the Summer months, or

if your existing conservatory could do with some repair

before the Summer, I can recommend Taylors conservato-

ries on page 8.

With Easter here, now is the time that the owners of

caravans start to venture out again. If you own a van that is

in need of a service, I can recommend GL Caravan Care

on page 8, he’s a mobile engineer and so is happy to come

to you.

Please remember, as always we can be found on our Face

book page; www.facebook.com/TheLinkDirectories or on

twitter; www.twitter.com/@Sarah_Gerken we would love to connect with you.

Have a great month, and don’t eat too many Easter eggs!

Sarah.

Everybody has a brain.

Thank goodness for that because without that brain you would be dead. Now the brain

connects to the body via wire-like structures called nerves. We chiropractors study the

way the nerves interact with the body, like your internal organs (heart, pancreas, liver) as

well as the muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments.

We also know how the stresses of life can affect the clear transmission of information or

energy along those nerves, which can affect any organ of the body often without you

being aware of it. Don’t worry though because chiropractors are trained in the identifica-

tion and treatment of nerve interference. The result is a reduction of your pain or other

symptoms, and an improvement in your quality of life.

At the Chiropractic Wellness Centre you’ll be greeted by our CA’s (Chiropractic Assis-

tants) who are always friendly, and they will guide you through the simple procedures.

You’ll be gently assessed. Part of that assessment uses non invasive scanning technology

to measure subtle changes in your spine and nervous system which enables the doctor to

get a really good idea of what is going on in your body as a whole. After that we give you

a thorough report followed by recommendations for care moving forward. The care could

be relief/crisis care, Rehabilitative/Corrective Care or Maintenance Care.

We are completely dedicated to restoring health to each and every person who walks

through the door whether that means getting out of pain so you can look after the kids

better or improve your performance for sporting events.

Gardening Tips for April from Garden Delight..

Flowers, Tubs and Borders Prune back forsythia after flowering this will keep the plants compact and bushy; the new growth pro-

duced will be next years flowering wood.

Clematis – train and tidy the new growth this will give you a much better display of flowers.

Dead head any bulbs that have flowered e.g. Daffodils, do not cut the foliage off, the bulbs need this to

produce the food for the bulb to flower next year. You can top dress with a good general feed e.g. fish,

blood and bone or Vitax Q4

Plant Dahlias and Gladioli, when you buy them in the garden centre; be sure to check the corms and

tubers have not dried out in the heat of the garden centre.

Straggly grey foliage plants like Lavender, Santolina, Senecio and Grey Cineraria can be cut back now.

Do not cut into the brown old wood as this can kill the plant. Trimming over now will give your plants

the encouragement they need to produce fresh new shoots and give plenty of time for them to build up

flower for the summer.

Spray your roses with Bio Multi Rose which is combined bug and fungus killer it helps control black

spot and rust and kills pests but not beneficial insects. Spraying every couple of weeks will keep your

roses clean and healthy.

Fruit and Vegetables Finish planting out sprouting maincrop potatoes but keep an eye out for late frosts which might take the

new growing tips.

Plant out Cabbage, Cauliflower and Brussel Sprout plants

Cover a few Strawberry plants with cloche or fleece to give you an early crop. ( you can use polythene

but make sure the air can circulate

Greenhouse You can sow seeds for the tender pants which will go out in the ground at the end of nest month e.g.

Courgette, French and Runner Beans

Sow Basil from seed for planting out at the end of May, alternatively if you don’t have a greenhouse

you can sow and grow in pots on a warm window sill. Make successive sowings which will give you

fresh young plants through the summer

Lawns Start to lower the blades on your mowers as the grass grows quicker and thicker.

You can continue to use a weed, feed and moss killer on the lawn, you will off course get bare patches

where the weeds and moss have hopefully died... you can get a ‘patch’ pack of grass seed from the

garden centre to fill in the bare spots.

General Tips April is a good month to make a start on those difficult perennial weeds. Most weed killers work best in

warmer weather when the sap is rising in the plant. Do not apply on a wet or hot sunny day. A dry

overcast day is best this means the weed killer will have time to be absorbed into the leaves and get to

work. You might be tempted to cut down weeds before treatment e.g. nettles but all this really does is

reduce the surface area for absorbs ion. If the weeds are particularly tough or have a waxy surface you

can beat them with a stick or cane to bruise the foliage, this will help the weed killer get into the plant.

For borders and rough areas where you want to continue to grow plants a contact systemic killer is best

e.g. a glyphosate based product.. This will kill what it touches and travels through the sap system of the

plants but breaks down and biodegrades when it hits the soil. For paths and gravel drives you need a

weed killer which has a contact and residual ingredient in it e.g. Pathclear. .

What ever you use follow the instructions on the packet and remember to only use the recommended

dosage.
