Tumbi Talks // 26 July 2019

Principal's MessageTerm 3 started with gusto. Our students returned well and looking warm and ready for learning. The same can be said for our staff.

We commenced the term with some major events that are shared in this newsletter.

I look forward to bringing more news of our successes over this term.

Year 8 Uluru ExperienceWhat a wonderful journey our Year 8 students had exploring our great Country during the school holidays!

Thank you to our dedicated teachers for offering them this opportunity.

New Staff MembersWe welcome Mr Yong to our team as a now permanent teacher. We also welcome Mr Mifsud to our TAS faculty and Mrs Tsiricopoulos to Science.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory MusicalLate last term 55 very lucky Year 7 students attended the musical, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney. The staging, performances, music and costumes were incredible.

They all immensely enjoyed the experience. We may have started a life-long love for the theatre!

Thank you to Mrs Kerr and Mr Beemster for accompanying the students and giving them such wonderful experiences.



AVID - University of Callaghan VisitA great day was had with Year 10 AVID students attending University of Newcastle Callaghan campus for the immersion day.

The students chose which seminars they wanted to see depending on their area of interest. They all benefited greatly in not only seeing the campus, but understanding what the university has to offer. The range of courses are brilliant, as is their openness to new courses.

Thank you to Mrs Cobham and Mr Skidmore for giving our students this great opportunity.



IBM WorkshopOn Tuesday we had a wonderful day with IBM representatives and presenters from High Resolves who challenged us to think about identity and belonging in this global world. The workshops were great in stretching our thinking and understanding of what happens beyond our own community.

Our students were simply amazing in their participation, ideas and warm, welcoming and interested manner with all our visitors.

Congratulations everyone - you shone!



Gifted and Talented CaterersWe are incredibly proud of our talented caterers and their amazing teachers! They are always so polished and professional.



NAIDOC AssemblyOur campus enjoyed a very special day on Thursday as our NAIDOC assemblies recognised, celebrated and thanked wonderful community members who have long supported our journey with Aboriginal education. We thank them for what they do with and for us every day.

Please join with us in recognising the following people who have added so much to our learning through language, art, culture, links to university and simply by being available.

Our students were treated to performances and words of experience that showed the way with Voice - Treaty - Truth. We all experienced the gift of a smoking ceremony and our SASS staff were amazing in their display of support.

Well done to the team for organising such an inclusive and respectful event.



Year 9 Wellbeing DayYear 9 have benefited greatly from our recent wellbeing day.

The boys had inspirational sessions with Tomorrow's Architects and then Mr Holton about becoming more of who you really are! Our fine young men are learning that “maleness” has many forms and all are acceptable.

The girls theme throughout the day was ‘Your Story’. They had a light-hearted look at the challenges faced by young people and young women in particular.

We are so proud of these students. Congratulations Year 9 and The Wellbeing Team for your awesomeness!



Mental Health AwarenessOur mental health is precious and it deserves our attention!

Thank you Mrs Player for allowing this excursion to take place. We have spoken to people who are amazed at such a wonderful opportunity being offered to students. Their comment has been “What school does your daughter go to?” The time and effort put in to such a project is much appreciated and we thank all the people involved especially Mrs Lincoln for her unselfish commitment to students. Such a great time they have had. Our daughter couldn’t stop talking about the things they saw and did.”

“I had a child playing for Bateau Bay Public School in the touch footy gala day today. I just wanted to let the staff of Tumbi Campus know that I (among other parents) were very impressed with the referees from Tumbi Campus. They were well presented, professional, courteous and communicated well with the kids on the field, and should be commended for their behaviour.”
