• High Unemployment in comparison to the rest of London
• Highest prevalence of domestic abuse and violence in London
• Until 2010, the BNP were the opposition party. Media dubbed the borough the “race hate capital of Britain”
• Political make up now 100% Labour
• One of only 5 boroughs that voted for Brexit

What is the relationship between improving incomes and social progress?
We launched Beam Energy and B&D Energy; a council owned not-for-profit energy suppliers
We improved our efforts to reduce homelessness
Reduction in homelessness applications across all wards except Heath ward

Last year we brought together data that measures progress against the borough manifesto targets into a single index – known as the “social progress index”
