LETTER FROM OUR PARISH ADMINISTRATOR

My dear parishioners, Today's readings force us to think about one of the most common diseases in the world. There is no human being who would not suffer from it at some point in his life. Only few can cure it: People's experts claim that with this disease we come into the world, and its viruses die in us only five minutes after our death. A disease of greatness. It is a terrible disease, a source of many misfor-tunes on earth. It often occurs in conjunction with other diseases, especially greed, but sometimes we come across it in its pure form. What are its most common symptoms? Unhealthy competition. Constant striving to be in the foreground, so that next to it were not bigger than us. Every bigger man is an enemy and he must be distanced at all costs. Looking for people smaller than yourself, towards whom you can show your superiority, who can be set at your feet. Searching for slaves. No matter who, it can be a wife, mother, child, colleague at work, so long as there is someone to step on. Stupid, defending my position at all costs. A man sick of greatness can't lose, he can't stand defeat. This manifest itself particularly vividly, when hard life marginalizes him. Illness, disability, old age, retirement come and then the drama begins. The egoist cannot and does not want to agree to failure. How much evil arises from this pursuit of greatness, how many people have been trampled down, how many tears have been shed - only God knows. A husband who tells the world that he has a stupid wife. Even children can explain that their mother is a limited person. He built a house, he bought a car, he graduated. He, he, he ... Only him. Bow to the people, the deity is coming. His wife and children had already shed so many tears that he could be drowned in them peacefully. A small man, sick of greatness. School director, pedagogical anti-talent. He has nothing to do with the school but a diploma. However, he has power. He decides about the fate of the staff and the fate of students. Every day he makes a series of decisions that everyone laughs at, but no one will say a word to him. Everyone is afraid of him. Master of life and death. A small man, sick of greatness. Each of us could give many similar examples. They can be observed among children in the kinder-garten and in the corridors of the old people's home, in the prison cell and in the monastery walls. Wherever there is a man there is a terrible disease. And Christ says, "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled." There will be many, humiliated ones, thousands, millions and billions. Such numbers have been used to describe the number of people suffering from size over the centuries. "Whoever humbles himself will be exalted." Exalted by God will be few, very few. Few willingly take last place. The author of the Book of Wisdom says that there is no cure for a disease of greatness. No one can cure anyone of this disease. Only he can save himself, but not by juxtaposition with others, but by juxtaposition with the only true greatness - God. Whoever has stood before God in truth will no longer get great. Let us pray for humbleness for each other and for the whole world. In Christ, Fr. Piotr Samborski

Register NOW! For Ministry of Care Training

Our parish sick and homebound want to continue to receive Holy Communion even though they can’t come to mass. Please con-sider joining the Ministry of Care which provides visits with prayer

and Holy Communion. A 20 minute visit is all it takes to bring spiritual and sacramental fulfillment to those in need. We rotate our ministry schedule to accommodate people’s schedules. You will have an opportunity to ac-company an experienced minister before you become active. A course is required. Designed for people who are new to parish ministry, you will develop the skills and confi-dence needed to be a source of comfort, prayer and sac-rament to those who are in need. Upon completion of this course you will receive the Archdiocesan mandate to bring Communion to those who are sick, homebound, hospitalized, incarcerated and in nursing home. Retired priests who live at Presence St. Benedict will be facilitating these classes on 5 consecutive Wednesday evenings, from 7-9 pm. The five-week training for new Ministers of Care will begin Wednesday, September 25th; at Presence Saint Benedict Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 6930 West Touhy Avenue, Niles. Sessions will run two hours (7:00PM-9:00PM) and will include a talk given by an experienced facilitator accompanied by group discussion and/or an exercise to help you develop your ministry skills. Pre-registration is required. The cost of this course ($30) is paid by SMOW. Please contact Ministry of Care Coor-dinator, Betty Blank at 773-631-7675 or call the rectory to register or for further details and information. Eucharist is the sacrament of love!
