This past Tuesday we began school at Most Blessed Sacrament. The school is not connected to a single parish, but rather to eight different parishes in the surrounding area. We’re blessed to be able to offer a Catholic education to our students. We all know of the importance of education, not solely in order to secure employment, but as a means to grow and flourish as human beings. In studying the natural world, we come to a greater desire for knowledge and that search for the truth of creation leads to questions about the Creator. Why is there something rather than nothing? What is the meaning of life? What happens after we die? These questions find their reply in the Truth, not a thing, but a person, Jesus Christ. So, rightly do we pass on this knowledge of Christ to our children, not simply in church, but in school as well. It would be difficult to properly learn without talking about the most important event and the most important person in history.

We also know how crucial it is to not simply teach with words, but with actions, as well. As Pope Saint Paul VI taught in Evangelii Nuntiandi, “Modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses.” So, we pray for our teachers at the beginning of the academic year, and especially for parents, the first teachers of their children in all things, particularly the Faith.

This Sunday marks the 11th anniversary of Bishop Malooly’s installation as the ninth Bishop of Wilmington. We thank God for sending us Bishop Malooly, especially during a difficult time in our Diocese, and we ask for God’s continued blessings upon him.

For those keeping up with Fr. Adam on Worst Cooks in America, he was again in the bottom two but, once again, avoided being cut. It sounds like someone up above is looking out for him. Tune in this evening at 9 p.m. on the Food Network to see how he does.

Finally, as you know, this is my first time as administrator and I’m still figuring out how things go and settling into my own style of things, too. One of the things that I’ve been thinking about is this very column. If I’m honest, I was never a big fan of these columns in the past because they were often a

summary of the homily. I felt that if one wanted to hear the homily, one should go to church. Of course, shut-ins are not able to do so, but nowadays most watch Mass on EWTN, and hence hear a homily that way. This is why I’ve refrained from putting a small section of my homily in this column. I do find it helpful, however, to hear from the wisdom of saints, popes, and Catholic literary figures throughout the ages. It’s why I included the audience remarks from Pope Francis the other week. So, some weeks I may have some quotes included. And if I can’t think of anything to put in, there may not be a column one week. Although, most priests don’t have a problem talking, so we’ll see how I do with that J. Fr. Solomon “The deeds you do may be the only sermon some persons will hear today,” St. Francis of Assisi

TWENTY THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Did you know our

parish has an Altar

Guild that works

hard to keep our

parish sparkling? We are so excited to welcome anyone

that wants to join. We are responsible for the upkeep of the

Altars ~ linens, candle sticks and the like! I hope you will

consider joining us! We would like to meet since summer is

now coming to an end, so we can to jump into action and

we have a beautiful, clean and reverent place for us to wor-

ship! I also thought it might be a good time to explain and

discuss the function of the Altar Guild to give us direction

and definition so that we are of service to Father and our

parish. This a perfect ministry if you enjoy putting things in

order, want to volunteer but can’t commit to a weekly

schedule or if you would be willing to do laundry and ironing

at home. If you are interested just give Rita a call or email!

Having a loose grasp on those things that rightly belong to God is required of every fol-lower. The open hands you are left with will be filled by God and overflowing. Can you let go? If you think God is calling you to be a

priest, religious or deacon, contact Fr. Norm Carroll voca-t i o n s @ c d o w . o r g 3 0 2 - 5 7 3 - 3 1 1 3 [email protected]

Ladies of the Parish. Do you have some spare time on your hands? We would greatly appreciate the help of ladies that would be willing to volunteer to be "subs" for the ladies that work the desk in the parish foyer. They work

The ladies at the desk will be happy to sit with you and show you what they do. We would love to have an ample backup list of ladies that would be willing to help when our daily workers can not come in.
