twinfield ixbrl accountantsportal
DESCRIPTION
Twinfield Accountantsportal, iXBRLTRANSCRIPT
iXBRL. You hear about it more and more. But what does it actually stand for: iXBRL is an standard based on XML that enables
economic entities (government bodies, businesses, institutions, regulators, banks, etc,) to communicate fi nancial data, both
internally and externally, in a dynamic and uniform way.
It is a standard which allows data to be exchanged between two or more parties. Twinfi eld - as a supplier of Accounting Software
Solutions - has to communicate with various parties, such as the tax department, banks and Companies House. In this white paper, we
explain how Twinfi eld has tackled the iXBRL issue. This document therefore includes an explanation and diagrams.
Twinfi eld & iXBRL
2
How does Twinfi eld see iXBRL?In collaboration with various parties, including the tax department and accountancy fi rms, Twinfi eld
came to the conclusion that the fi nancial system should be the basis for the exchange of data between
the various different parties. The aim has always been:
1. To be able to extract all the data from Twinfi eld Online ccounting for iXBRL reports.
2. All the non-fi nancial data needed for iXBRL reports can be compiled using Twinfi eld Controller/Auditor,
so that all the data can be extracted from a single source.
3. Any data needed from other systems can be automatically retrieved and/or manually entered in the
Twinfi eld XBRL Viewer/Editor for the completion of iXBRL reports.
4. Other sources can be accessed via the Twinfi eld XBRL Viewer/Editor with a few clicks of a mouse.
5. It must be accessible via Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Firefox.
Twinfi eld has both national and international clients, so it must be possible to use the solution of Twinfi eld
anywhere in the world.

Detail Data sources and the iXBRL viewer/editor
10
Once the taxonomy structure has been imported, you can view
it in the Viewer/Editor. All the requested details can be entered
manually or automatically linked to the different data sources.
Effi ciency can be increased signifi cantly when you link as many
fi elds as possible to data sources that are available online. Once
you have made a link, you can use it for all fi nancial accounts
using the same reporting structure.
In example, you can make a link to the master data in your
Twinfi eld company accounts. You can link fi nancial data that
has already been entered in your Twinfi eld accounts to your
self-defi ned reporting structure. Links between different iXBRL
documents are also possible. With this function, for example,
you can link fi elds in the Abbreviated Income Statement to fi elds
in the Credit Report.
For your daily operations, no doubt other (non-Twinfi eld)
systems are also used in your organisation (e.g. a CRM
application). You can also make links to these systems using a
web service. Naturally, you can also link such data fi les as .xls
(Microsoft Excel), .xml (standard language for display of online
structures as text), and .csv (comma separated fi les).
For each fi eld - in addition to the link - you can also add
evidence. This allows you to save uploaded documents
(.pdf, .doc, .xls), images, and comments. This means your digital
archive is always up-to-date and you can show the history of the
compilation of the document.
Using Twinfi eld Workfl ow you can monitor and manage the
various phases in the compilation of iXBRL documents. You can
also make a direct online link via a web service to include your
own application in the workfl ow.
Before a document is made defi nitive, you can have the structures
approved by the Twinfi eld Validation service. This function
is naturally an integrated part of the solution. In this way, you
can avoid unexpected issues when you send a document. The
approved and defi nitive iXBRL documents can be accessed and
used by you at any time. You can send approved documents
via the Port Management function to the receiving port of the
relevant organisation, for instance the Government Gateway.

Your documents can be sent to predefi ned ports, such as:
• the digiport of your Chamber of Commerce
• the tax department
• Statistics Netherlands
• the transaction port of the bank (for example, for your Credit Reports)
• to your own systems
Countless solutions and variations are possible within this framework. Security is naturally
an important aspect. The necessary certifi cates can be set for the ports. This means you can
easily regulate who can communicate with whom, and who is authorised to send certain
information and reports.
3. The port manager
13
1. What is iXBRL?
iXBRL stands for eXtensible inline Business Reporting
Language. It is a standard technology for the digital
exchange of financial data and reports.
2. What is SBR?
SBR stands for standard Business Reporting. It is
a program, started by the government, to create a
standardised method for the exchange of financial data
and reports. iXBRL is the technology used to implement
the SBR method in practice.
3. I am an accountant. What will the Twinfield iXBRL
solution look like for me?
As an accountant - in addition to the Twinfield
environment where the financial administrations
are edited - you will also have access to an online
environment, the Accountants Portal, where you can
develop and deposit the financial reports for your
clients. In this way, your clients can log in to this portal
to view, approve and send these reports.
4. I run my own business. What will the Twinfield
iXBRL solution look like for me?
Your company will have access to an online portal
where you, with your account, can develop and deposit
financial reports. You can view these reports, and if
necessary check certain figures down to book entry
level. Once the report has been approved, it can be sent
electronically.
5. What type of reports are supported by Twinfield?
- Filing of annual accounts with Companies
House of Commerce
- Bank credit reports
- Returns for VAT, corporation tax,
and income tax
- Abbreviated income statement returns for
corporation tax
- Self-defined taxonomies
6. When is Twinfield’s iXBRL solution available?
The iXBRL solution of Twinfield will be included as
standard in the product from 1 January 2011 onwards.
Naturally, this will all be done automatically for you. See
also question 8.
7. What features will be included in the Twinfield
iXBRL solution?
Within the Twinfield Accountants Portal, the accountant
and the business owner will work together to draw up
a report. The Accountants Portal will include an ‘iXBRL
viewer/editor’. This is used to import a taxonomy. Via
FAQ14
a workflow process (in collaboration with the client)
the mapping of the financial accounts takes place.
Supporting documents are collected in a digital archive.
Once the report has been compiled and approved by the
accountant and the business owner, the report is sent
via the ‘Port Manager’ directly to the receiving port (or
‘gateway’) of the recipient organisation.
8. I am already a Twinfield client, what do I have to
do to get the new iXBRL module?
That depends on the type of subscription you have. Are
you an accountant? Then the module will automatically
be made available for you in January. Do you run a
business and have you got an SMB Accounting or
Complete Accounting subscription? Then the module
will also automatically be made available for you
in January. Have you got a Shared View or Basic
Accounting subscription? Then you work together with
an accountant. You will have access to the online portal
of the accountant in order to view and approve reports.
9. What is the new module going to cost me?
Nothing. iXBRL will be made available at no extra charge
and will be an integral part of Twinfield.
10. What do I have to do to be ready for iXBRL?
You will need authorisation and log in credentials for
online filing,, which you will have to acquire yourself
from the designated bodies.
11. Can data be tagged on the basis of the supporting
taxonomies? And if so, in which part of the software?
Yes, you can tag data in the iXBRL viewer/editor for:
- Financial accounts (financial data
and master data)
- Existing iXBRL documents
- Imported documents
12. How do I add extra information necessary within a
taxonomy, for example for a bank? And can I tag this
information?
Using the iXBRL viewer/editor, which is part of the
Accountants Portal, extra information can be imported
in various formats.
13. Is it possible to draw up an abbreviated income
statement return for corporation tax?
Yes.
15
14. Will it also be possible to use the iXBRL features
in foreign countries?
Yes.
15. Does it support different languages?
Yes, Dutch and English. In the Online Accounting system
we support all of these languages: Dutch, English,
German, French, Danish, Hungarian, and Czech.
16. Is it possible to import existing iXBRL documents?
Yes.
17. How difficult is it to start working with the iXBRL
module using an existing Twinfield application?
If you are working with Twinfield, then you already have
a report structure. This structure is based on the chart
of accounts used by you and can be linked to for the
imported taxonomies straightway.
18. In order to start using the Twinfield Accountants
Portal, do the accounts have to be in Twinfield
already?
No. The Twinfield Accountants Portal has a flexible
design which allows it to be linked with other systems.
19. Say I want to use iXBRL within our (in-house)
portal, is that possible?
Yes. Because Twinfield has a separate ‘Port Manager’
function, it can be linked with existing portal
environments.
20. Is it possible to make links with work
programmes?
Yes, the ‘iXBRL viewer/editor’ can be linked with existing
work programmes.
