Automatic Control Units

Fields of ApplicationControlmatic E can be used to start up, switch off and controlsmall pumps in water supply systems.

Function1. The consumer installation is closed, the pump is switched off.Controlmatic E’s green ’availability’ LED is lit.

2. When the consumer installation is opened, the hydraulicpressure in the system decreases. The pump is started up.

3. The pump is working, the yellow ’operation’ LED is lit.

4. When the consumer installation is closed and the flow rateis zero, the pump is switched off after 10 seconds.

Dry-running protectionThe pump is protected against dry-running thanks tosimultaneous monitoring of the pump’s pressure and flow rate.If there is a lack of water, Controlmatic E automatically stops thepump, the red ’fault’ LED lights up.

1) The automatic control unit Controlmatic E must be protected against any pressure higher than the operating pressure. Minimum start-uppressure 1.5 bar.

The following must be strictly complied with:Pressuresuction side + pressuremax. pump (at zero flow) < 10 barIn case of doubt regarding the suction side pressure:-- either a safety margin of 3 bar has to be taken into account, i.e.:

(pressuresuction side + 3 bar) + [pressuremax. pump (at zero flow)] < 10 bar-- or a pressure reducer (pressure stabiliser) must be installed between the pump and Controlmatic E or on the pump suction side in order to avoidexcessive pressure.If the plant is expected to be subject to surge pressures by quick-closing valves (e.g. solenoid valves), please contact one of KSB’s sales branches.

The start-up pressure has been set to1.5 bar at the factory and may beincreased to 2.6 bar, if required.
