Sample Two-Day Itinerary
Today your group will head south into the towns of Oakland and Mountain Lake Park for a look back at our area’s rich heritage.
• Visit the Simon Pearce Glass Blowing workshop, complete with demonstrations and gift shop on-site.
• Enjoy lunch at one of our local restaurants. • Head to the Garrett County Historical Museum. Enjoy a tour of the museum. Continue on
to the Transportation Museum and Oakland B&O Museum, just steps away. Take some time to view the Church of the Presidents just a few doors down.
• Visit the beautiful Swallow Falls State Park for a look at the state’s highest free-falling waterfalls, Muddy Creek Falls or the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center, an interpretive environmental center complete with hands-on experiences about our local flora, fauna, wildlife, cultural and historical heritage.
• Return to the hotel to relax before dinner.• Enjoy dinner on-site or at a local eatery and experience evening
entertainment at the hotel, whether it be a performance, craft or game.
Your last day in Garrett County begins with breakfast on-site at the hotel or at a local dining establishment and then tour the northern end of the county, continuing on to home.
• Visit Wisp Resort for an in-depth look at how the ski resort makes snow using their state of the art equipment.
• On your way to the next stop, check out a couple of our local Barn Quilts. Each hand painted quilt has a unique story. There are over 25 barn quilts in our county.
• Head into the town of Accident and visit Firefly Farms for a chance to sample some delicious local-made cheeses and see a behind-the-scenes look at how goat cheese is produced.
• Your next destination will be on the National Road, just outside of Grantsville. Enjoy walking over the Casselman River Bridge and a tour through Spruce Forest Artisan Village, visiting local artists and watch while they work their craft. Peruse the many quaint shops featuring gourmet foods, lifestyle items, soaps and much more!
• Lunch will be at the popular Penn Alps Restaurant, for a German influenced home cooked meal or the new Cornucopia Cafe featuring small bites and scrumptious light lunches boxes to be enjoyed by the Casselman River.
• Before departing for home, stop at Hill-Top Market for a sweet treat to take home from Candyland; offering over 700 varieties of candy.

Enjoy a leisurely ride through the Appalachian Mountains to beautiful Deep Creek Lake, MD. We begin the day with a stop in the town of Accident. Yes, that is correct, and you have to visit us to find how Accident got its name! Our stop in Accident will include the Moon Shadow Café for a local pairing of Farm Fresh produce and goat cheese from Firefly Farms. Walk across the street to Firefly Farms & Creamery, talk to the cheese makers and discover how their handmade goat cheeses have become world renowned. A visit from the Lavender Farm will show you how to grow and use lavender for First Aid, cooking and much more.
Relax on the deck at Wisp Resort while your lunch is served. The mountain views and lake views are spectacular. A must on everyone’s bucket list is the Mountain Coaster where you regulate your own speed or for a more leisurely ride enjoy a scenic chairlift to the top of Marsh Mountain overlooking Deep Creek Lake.
Our next stop is a visit to Simon Pearce that specializes in hand blown glass and handmade pottery. Simon Pearce originated as a small glassblowing workshop in Kilkenny, Ireland. He moved to the states in 1981. The glass is beautifully designed, produced with premium quality materials and time-honored techniques and intended for a lifetime of everyday use. Tour the facility and watch the glass blowers in action.
The next visit is to the town of Oakland, a state and nationally recognized Main Street Community. Meander through the unique shops and visit Garrett Historical Museum, Oakland B&O Museum (a restored 1884 train station), and the Transportation Museum. See how transportation transformed over the years and helped shape this county as the original Gateway to the West.
Did you know that Garrett County is also home to Maryland’s tallest waterfall? Cameras are a must when we visit Swallow Falls State Park, home to Maryland’s largest waterfall. Muddy Creek Falls is a crashing 53-foot waterfall – a spectacular sight.
