The focus will be on the first short story of the book: Comment Wang- Fô fut sauvé. “Nouvelles Orientales” is a 1938 short stories collection. The 10 stories share a self- consciously mythological form; some are based on pre-existing myths and legends, while some are new, taking the reader from China to Greece, and from the Balkans to Japan. Marguerite Yourcenar has the extraordinary talent to express much with a minimum of words. The stories are short but deep and make the reader feel the power of words. “J'ai choisi cette œuvre d'abord parce qu'elle célèbre le pouvoir de l'imagination, ensuite parce qu'elle donne une approche de l'Asie de façon extraordinairement sensible, qui me touche beaucoup.” Claire-Lise Dautry
