SITE MODEL

This is the site model for our proposed site for sulphur dell. The model

shows the different buildings and building types, while also showing the

streetscapes, local transportation routes indicated by the string. Pin heads are

also used to indicate bus and bike stops. Attracting neighboring districts was a

key element in this project because the bicentennial park is directly north of the

capital. To bring people into Sulphur Dell, we implemented multiple pedestrian

paths to increase foot traffic, and to create a more lively downtown area.

MONTERREY LIBRARY

Project Description

In Arc 452 Design IV Integration, our semester long project was to design a library for Tecnolóigico de Monterrey

University in Mexico. Monterrey is the capital and largest city of the northeastern state of Nuevo León in the country of

Mexico. The city has the third-largest metropolitan area in Mexico and is ranked as the ninth-largest city in the nation.

Monterrey lies north of the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range, giving the site a great overlooking view.

PRORGRAM STANDARDS

The program’s objectives were set by the ACSA steel

competition, which called for steel as the primary

structural material and a total area between 30,000-

100,000 square feet. The library primarily serves the

needs of the University and its students and is a major

intersection in the middle of the campus.

PROJECT DESIGN

The main entrance sits at the center of the building towering over the surrounding buildings, making it a key attraction to the rest of

the University. It also lies on a direct path connecting two sides of the site, making it a heavy foot traffic area. The main attraction to

the library is on the fourth floor overlooking the Southeast mountain range. It serves as a collaborative space for the students

hopefully enhancing their educational experiences. There's huge 28' truss with a joist system running parallel that allows this space

to be as if it were hovering above the ground. The west part of the library is a simple beam/column design with a 15' cantilever to

shade and protect the balcony below.
