Abernathy Crime Stoppc:rs. through fundraising actiVIties, were able to donate $1616.21 to the Hale County Crime Stoppers during a presentation Tuesday.
The groups have formed a cooperative endeavor to stop crime in Hale County, and will split funds received by either

The money received by each group will be placed mto a

Crime Stoppers here raised the funds from proceeds of a white elephant sale, aluminum can collections, and donations from local firms and individuals.
This is the rust exchange of funds between the two groups.
The SPAG plan has to be: submitted by September 1, 1989 and if approved, cannot be: implemented before mid-1990. Each city that votes to participate in this planning process wiU get the chance to approve or reject the final proposal before it's submitted to the state.
Counc:il Compromises On Country Oub Water Rates
Councilmen compromised with Abernathy Country Club manage• Barry Royal and with each other to set the country club's water rate at 75 cents per 1000 gal· Ions for the first 7.50,000 gaUons and 45 cents per 1000 gaUons over that.
Royal bad asked the council last month to make some kind of adjustment in the country cll!b's water rate as the increase this suanucr lea him . ~able to water. en.ough"' to ·improve the golf course. ·
Points the council considered in making their decision are: • Since water lines from the
wells to town run right by the country club, it's cheap to furnish water to the club. No distribution costs are involved as they are in furnishing water in town. • Water is furnished to several
private homes outside the city and cost more to get it there. • The golf course is an asset
to, though not connected with, the city and furnishes reCreation facilities the city cannot afford. • Country club membership is
shrinking, making it harder to keep the course and pool opera· ling. • The city can't favor some
people more than others but tries to . offer best possible service to aU. • The club welcomes anyone
who will pay the cost of mem· bc:rship. A better golf course wiU help draw members. • A more attractive water rate
will enable the club to continue to buy water, bringing the city revenue. • The cemetery also has an
adjusted water rate. Royal said when the club h!ld
