    Preface

    I would like to start out with giving a few shoutouts. Firstly to Drey for seeing potentialin me when I was just a floundering newb. Not only was he the admin and owned theserver, he become my mentor both in and out of the MUD. Secondly I would like to mentionthose who kept my playing interest peeked and taught me many things: Aidan, Bevis,Blasko, Darkmyst, Helios, Lykourgos, Mistwalker, Parin, Risika, Thri. Without them and afew others, there wouldnt have been the great times with Ronin, Vindication, Maelstrom,backstabbing chromatic wyrms, and a few outside relationships.

    After becoming a low level immortal and finally completing my horrible clan hall, I becamelethargic and slowly stopped playing and contributing. Even with the new blood Darok,Dran, Raize, Sleight, and others the excitement of the hunt still eludes me. Instead, I haveoften wondered why my characters continually fail and why I cant remember basic stuff likewhat items to wear. So I began keeping lists which were promptly lost and never around

    when I felt like piddling around UD some. I had the idea one night to finally write up anewbie guide an idea that had been tossed around numerous times before. I sat up a wikiand got to work. The result was somewhat tolerable thanks to the help of Raize, Singko,and Sleight. However, nothing really went further with that project.

    At the moment, I feel a bit like playing and need a formal place to store all the ingredients tomaking a killer character. Included are various tables of gear, leveling areas, consumables,and more. Also included are a number of scripts to be included with zMud and tintin++.I hope you enjoy this compilation of thoughts and information and that it helps you toimprove your game or at least act as a viable cheat sheet. Thanks for reading and happyhunting.

    Chapter 1

    Lowbie

    Creating a competitive character starts at the creation screen. Regardless of the selected

    class, choosing Dwarf or Deurgar as the race is essential. Their high constitution aidesconsiderably in peeking ones hit points as soon as possible. Step two begins in newbieschool. Gather all the newbie gear in the basement floors before the knight. This will bringyou to level one in the best shape possible. Rise to level three and get into the real world.The following table contains the ideal stats you want to have. Constition, intelligenc, andwisdom are the key stats to focus on.

    Statistic Default Values Maximum Values

    Strength 14 26Intelligence 13 22

    Wisdom 16 25Dexterity 13 15Constitution 13 23

    Table 1.1: Maximum statistics for the Deurgar and Dwarf races

    The best way to achieve those stats is by gathering the proper equipment. Before reachinglevel four, you should already have all your leveling gear in place. Ideally, this gear will becontained in a flame-proof container such as a bag of holding from Fire Giants Caves.Since the first ten levels go in a hurry, you will probably be wearing this gear exclusivelyduring that time. Coupled with the newbie gear, the following ought to maximize constition,intelligence, and wisdom.

    At this point, you should start seeking out better equipment. Keep all of the levelingequipment acquired thus far and change into just prior to leveling. This will maximize levelgains while optimizing your damage output during the grind. If you have not already doneso, purchasing wotans potions at the Quest Master or creating appropriate candy, nowwould be a good time to start. These potions raise your prosperity by 200% allowing forincreased experience gains per kill.

    Chapter 5

    Player Killing

    This section is dedicate to different tactics used to bring down the numerous classes foundin UD. For all classes, you need to ensure that all class buffs are active. If you have the timeto forage extra consumables, they can greatly increase your chances at winning. Below is atable featuring some commonly used items in combat.

    5.1 Anti-Paladin

    Playing as an Anti-Paladin, your main skill will be wither. Curse is useful in group PK to

    prevent recalls while another player can use snare, web, or a similiar ability. In dealing withlarger mobs, remember to summon an army of undead from a graveyard.

    5.2 Ascetic

    5.3 Assassin

    This class is no longer accessible to new characters. Any existing Assassins have remained,such as Random.

    14

    16/27

    5.4 Cleric

    5.5 Dreyoth

    5.6 Gypsy

    5.7 Keeper

    5.8 Kheldite

    5.9 Mage

    As a mage, you will spend a lot of time cast buffs either on yourself or others. You willbe expected to summon players, especially during grouping. To top things off, you will beenchanting your gear as well as others. You are what is known as a mage bitch. Thisall means you are a support player providing timely summons and constant buff renewalsto keep your group alive. It is quite useful to configure a set of scripts to handle all yourbuffing needs. For solo efforts, remember to keep your charmies up and equiped.

    To kill a mage, start the battle off with a Cone of Silence followed with a dispel. Thiseffectively neutralizes any magic class. If you are able to cast mana drains, do not use them.Once the manashield drops, your spell is worthless. Instead, focus on health drains anddirect damage.

    5.10 Mercenary

    5.11 Paladin

    One of the first efforts you should embark upon as a Paladin is your relicblade.

    5.12 Quessite

    5.13 Shaman

    5.14 Templar

    5.15 Warlock

    This class is no longer accessible to new characters. Any existing Warlocks have remained,such as Thri.

    Start the battle off with a Cone of Silence followed with a dispel. This effectively neutralizesany magic class, but is essential for warlocks. Getting rid of boneshield and preventingwither damage and therefore their healing is the only way to bring these guys down.

    TinTin++ Scripts

    The following configurations show some basic aliases as well as skill abbreviations for classes.

    It is advised to put all common elements in a default config file. It is then possible fromwithin the game to issue read commands to load up specific configurations such as for aparticular character. If one wanted to further streamline the process, they could create classaliases in the common configuration to load class (or character) specific files. For example:

    #ALIAS {warlock} {#READ .tintin/warlock.tin}

    After starting tintin, it will load the default configuration file you have specified. Once youlog in as your warlock, you can issue warlockand instantly have all your settings availableto you.

    A.4 Useful Scripts

    The following scripts are a collection of useful items pulled into one unit or tools that canbe toggled. Each script was written to be self-contained units. Since the number of scriptscan get out of hand, it can be helpful to create a menu system that lists all available scripts.The following is an example of such a menu.

    #ALIAS {thelp} {#SHOWME == SCRIPTS ==;

    #SHOWME =========================;

    #SHOWME herbing;

    #SHOWME logging;

    #CR}

    This would tell you that you have the herbing and logging scripts available. Of course,this menu is manually created like the rest of your configuration file and may not be anaccurate reflection of your functions. However, the idea is to build in a reminder systemrevolving around a simple command in this case thelp.
