INFORMATION/PRACTICE

Logoff/Logon

In order to access the System Manager, you must Log on. Both an Operator ID and a Password are required. The system administrator will assign these to you in the lab.

Step Action

1 Select the Logoff icon at the top right of the screen.

2 On the Logoff screen, select the logoff button.

3 On the Logon screen, type in the Operator ID: BCI (case sensitive), press tab.

Type in the Password: bci (case sensitive).

NOTE: Neither the Operator ID nor the password “bci” is present in the system. Upon installation, Operator IDs and Passwords must be set up.

5 Select the Log On button or Press Enter.

You will now be on the DxH Slidemaker Stainer “home” screen. Once you select any button or icon to move to a different screen, the home screen disappears. You will only see it after a Log On or if you press the F8 key.

System Manager Statistics

The System Manager features touch screen capability that lets you select the Status icons and Menu buttons on the screen.

Your System Manager (computer) consists of the following:

LCD flat panel monitor with touch screen capability

Computer with a CD/DVD RW drive running Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system and the DxH Solutions software

Standard Keyboard

Optical Mouse

Hand-held barcode scanner

Small Form Factor Computer

Access System HELP

Find the Help icon along the top right of the screen, next to the Logoff icon. Select this icon to enter the System HELP. To close Help, select “x”.

Select the System Status icon to give you an overview of the instrument. On this screen, you will see the status of the SMS, LIS, and Printer. We will explain this screen further in the Daily Checks Module.

2 Select the System HELP icon .

3 Select the Index Tab. Type the words home screen in the keyword field.

4 A list displays, double click on the words home screen in the list or select the words and select the “Display” button at the bottom.

5 Take some time to study the Home Screen section to learn the names of the areas on this screen. You will label a diagram with the correct names as part of the skill check later.

6 To place this topic in Favorites as a reference for you, select the Favorites tab (to the right of the Index tab).

7 Then, select the “Add” button near the bottom.

8 You may now refer to this topic any time you select Favorites.

9 To delete a topic from Favorites, highlight it and select Remove.

10 The Help screen may be moved and resized to place it in a better position on the screen while you are working. Try it now!

11 The font icon at the top of the Help screen allows you to increase or decrease the size of the font used to make it easier for you to read. Try it now!

1 Click the Start icon to place the Slidemaker Stainer online for processing.

2 Click the Stop icon to place the Slidemaker offline (inactive state); stainer and STM are still active.

Note If an Audible Alarm is triggered, click the Turn Off Alarm icon to shut the audible alarm off.

Displays if unit is Online, Offline, in Diagnostics, or Stopped

Active = online and ready Inactive = offline and not ready Disabled = maker or stainer not available for use Enabled = maker and/or stainer available for use

Printer Status: Status displays Auto Print Disabled if Disable All Auto Printed Reports is selected from Print> Print Printer Setup

LIS Status: Green = LIS Interface ON Gray = LIS Interface OFF

Alert Status Icon color meaning: Red = error

Hardware Overview

The DxH Slidemaker Stainer is a slidemaking module, a slidestaining module and a System Manager. It is precisely integrated to provide process control, slidemaking and staining, and cassette or single-tube delivery of specimens.

System HELP can provide a quick overview:

DAILY CHECKS & SHUTDOWN

OBJECTIVES Given an operational DxH Slidemaker Stainer and using the System HELP:

Point to the last time a Daily Checks or Shutdown was run using the System Status screen

Access the Daily Checks Summary Screen

Request a Daily Checks cycle

Set up automatic Daily Checks after Shutdown

View Daily Checks Information

Add a comment to Daily Checks results

Set up automatic printing of the Daily Checks results

Perform the Shutdown procedure using DxH Cleaner

State the minimum time the instrument should be in Shutdown and how often Shutdown should be performed

Set up automatic Shutdown to occur for five days at 17:30pm


The Daily Checks screen shows you the results of running the Daily Checks diagnostic tests. The summary screen gives a quick overview of the results and any alerts due to failed tests.

The Shutdown procedure must be performed once every 24 hours that the instrument is used to ensure optimal cleaning of the instrument.

Daily Checks

The Daily Checks testing is a once-a-day procedure normally performed after running a Shutdown cycle. Both of these cycles have auto-program features. We will discuss this and set it up later in the module. Even when you have the cycle pre-programmed, you may still request to perform a Daily Checks cycle at any time (for troubleshooting, etc.). For additional Reference, refer to Chapter 3, Daily Checks.

Requesting a Daily Checks Cycle

Select the System Status icon . Look at the SMS Status screen to give you an overview of basic information about the instrument.

2 Click on the Details Status button or double click on the instrument picture on the screen.

If the date and time are a neutral color, all is OK. If they are red, there is a problem.

Look at the Maker and Stainer status for Active, Inactive, or Disabled state.

This is where you view the status of the maker and stainer.

Note

Transport Status may be Online, if processing samples.

Offline, for special cycles and procedures.

Diagnostics or Standby, for certain diagnostic tests.

Stopped, when system is commanded by the operator to stop the process.

Disconnected, when the system is powered off.

4 Select the Daily Checks alert status icon or Menu>QA>Daily Checks

5 Select Daily Checks from the local navigation bar.

When the system displays: You have requested to perform Daily Checks.

Select OK to run Daily Checks For classroom practice, Perform a Daily Checks now.

7 This cycle takes approx. 3 minutes.

Viewing Daily Checks Information

Step Action

1

Look at the Daily Checks alert status icon . If it is neutral, all is well. If it is red, then something failed and needs review. You can view the daily checks result information for the Summary, SMS, and Supplies.

Note

The Daily Checks must pass or be reviewed in order to run specimens. If Daily Checks passes, the Review button is disabled.

2 Select the Review button from the local navigation bar to clear any system failures and to return to neutral.

3 Select the View Log button to review the Daily Checks tab of the History Log.

4 After resolving the cause, repeat Daily Checks.

5 For classroom practice, use View Log to find a Daily Checks with a Fail entry, select it and then select the Details button.

Note

When you click “Review” for failed results, you are acknowledging the failure and the need to repeat the Daily Checks. Be sure to document per your regulatory requirements. You could add a comment in the History Log.

If you review a failed Daily Checks result, the system will prompt the operator with the following message: Are you sure you want to acknowledge the Daily Checks failure?

Press OK to continue.

Enable Automatic Daily Checks

Step Action

From the Daily Checks screen, select Auto Configuration>Configure Daily Checks to display the Auto Daily Checks Configuration dialog box.

2 Select Enable Automatic Daily Checks to enable running daily checks automatically on your system.

You have 2 options to choose from:

Perform Daily Checks After Shutdown Perform Daily Checks at a Specified Time

For classroom practice, select Perform Daily Checks at a Specified Time. Hour will be 6, Min will be 30, and check the Daily check box.

If you selected Perform daily checks after shutdown, select OK to save your selection. or If you selected Perform daily checks at a specified time, select a time and a day, and select OK to save your selection.

Viewing Past Results/Adding Comments

Step Action

1 Select the View Log button from the Local Navigation Bar.

2 You may select one date at a time to review.

Once highlighted in blue, select the Details button below to view all tabs of those results. Select View Log to return to the log or the large back arrow on the upper left to go back one screen.

Do this at this time!

With any date highlighted, select the Comments button below to add a comment. For classroom practice, add a comment.

5 Select OK to save comment.

Once saved, you will see a yellow, page icon appear to let you know there is a comment there. You may go back to a comment to edit it as well.

7 Be sure to save at least one comment for any Daily Checks result as part of this exercise.

Printing/Auto-Printing

Step Action

1 You may manually print individual results by selecting the print icon from the utility area at the upper right .

On the daily checks screen, you may print the Daily Checks Auto Report.

If you are on Daily Checks: View Log>Log Type>Data Summary Logs, you may print: Entire log, All filtered, or Selected entries by clicking the print icon from the utility area at the upper right.

3 You may decide to have the Daily Checks print automatically.

4 To do this, return to the Daily Checks screen by selecting the Daily Checks icon.

Select the Auto Report button from the Local Navigation bar. This opens the Daily Checks Auto Report window.

You may select to print automatically by checking the Enable auto report generation box.

Shutdown

The DxH Slidemaker Stainer allows you to program the length of time the instrument is in Shutdown. The default time is 30 minutes. This is the minimum time required for Shutdown.

At the end of your programmed time, the system removes DxH Cleaner and replaces it with DxH Diluent. It then awaits a Daily Checks cycle, performed manually or automatically.

If a Shutdown cycle needs to be interrupted, just cancel and then request a Daily Checks cycle.

Step Action

No other cycles or System Manager actions can be performed until the Shutdown cycle has completed. Once the Shutdown cycle is complete, a countdown timer bar appears near the bottom of the Daily checks screen to let you know how much time remains for the cleaning.

1 Select or Select Menu>QA>Daily Checks.

2 On the Daily Checks Screen, select the Shutdown button from the local navigation bar.

For classroom practice, select OK to begin the shutdown or In the event that you choose not to do a Shutdown, select Cancel to go back to the previous screen.

Note Refer to Chapter 5 Shutdown in HELP for further information on the Shutdown Procedures.

Enable Automatic Shutdown

Step Action

1 From the Daily Checks screen, select Auto Configuration>Configure Shutdown to display the Auto Shutdown Configuration dialog box.

2 Select Enable Automatic Shutdown to enable running Shutdown automatically on your system.

Note

In your Laboratory you may set-up shutdown as follows:

Type the time for automatic shutdown in Hour and Minutes in the text box.

Select Daily or select specific days of the week to run Shutdown automatically.

Type the time the cleaner should remain in the DxH Slidemaker Stainer during the shutdown procedure in Hours and Minutes.

Select OK to save your selections.

4 For classroom purposes, type in one hour for time in cleaner.

5 Type in 17:30 PM for the time the cycle should begin and select Monday through Friday.

6 Select OK.

Note Refer to Chapter 6 Setup in HELP for further information on Enabling Automatic Procedure.

1 Select to display the Supplies screen.

2 Select the Slidemaker tab.

On the Supplies screen, select the Setup button from the local navigation bar.

Configure Low-Level Notification

Step Action

1 Select to display the Supplies screen.

2 From either the Slidemaker or Stainer tab, select the Config Low Level button from the local navigation bar on the Supplies screen.

3 On the Configure Low Level Condition screen, select a low-level percentage from the drop-down box (default is 10%).

4 Select OK to save your changes.

Note In the classroom, we set the low-level warning to 10%. When this occurs, the Supplies Alert Status Icon is yellow. If a supply is out, the icon is red.

4 On the Setup Supplies dialog box, scan or manually enter the bar codes into Bar Code fields 1 and 2, and select OK.

If replacing Diluent, choose Diluent 1 or Diluent 2 from the Supply Type drop-down list and select OK.

If replacing Cleaner, select OK.

Note: The fields on the Setup Supplies screen are automatically populated from the bar code information. The Supply screen updates the percent (%) remaining for the supply bottle graphics.

6 Select OK to verify the reagent has been replaced.

7 Repeat this procedure for each remaining supply.

Setting Up Beckman Coulter Stainer Reagents

Follow these steps to set up reagents for the stainer.

Note: For any non Beckman Coulter reagent, select Setup Other and manually enter the bar code information. You can enter up to five supplies.

1 Select to display the Supplies screen

2 Select the Stainer tab.

On the Supplies screen, select the Setup button from the local navigation bar.

Scan or manually enter the barcodes into Bar Code fields 1 and 2, and select OK.

For any non Beckman Coulter reagent, select Setup Other and manually enter the bar code information. You can enter up to five supplies.

5 On the Supply field, choose the reagent to be replaced from the drop-down list.

On the displayed message, select OK to verify that the reagent has been replaced.

For non Beckman Coulter reagents, after selecting OK the system will display the Setup Supplies screen. Select OK (no need to enter any information in the barcode fields).

7 You would repeat steps 3 to 5 above for each remaining supply.

Select Details from the local navigation bar to display information for each supply and select OK.

Note: Slidestainer Supplies Details indicates the supplies required for the active staining protocol set for the instrument.

Supplies History Logs

Step Action

1 Select the from the local navigation bar on the Supplies screen.

There are two history logs associated with Supplies. One is located under Event Logs and the other is located under Data Summary Logs.

Supplies Event Log:

This log records any changes or alerts associated with the supplies.

Supplies Data Summary Log:

This log records all the information on each new container set up on the System.

2 Find both of these logs and examine the entries in each one.

Loading Slides

The software supply icon turns yellow when the slide level is low.

The software supply icon will turn red when the slides are completely out. The system will go offline until more slides are loaded.

Go back online to continue processing the slides.

Risk of injury and biohazardous contamination. Handle slides with care to avoid skin puncture. Clean up any broken glass or blood spill as quickly as possible. Dispose of all contaminated disposable cleaning materials and broken slides in accordance with your local regulations and acceptable laboratory practices.

Note: There are 2 sensors on the backside of the slide chute. One of the sensors, checks the slide inventory below ½ (approx. 75 slides). When this happens, the Supplies Icon will be in Yellow. The other sensor will stop the Slidemaker Stainer. This will occur when there are 12 slides left in the chute. The Supplies Icon will be in red.

Step Action

1 Open the slide ejector door.

Remove slides from the box handling them by the painted end.

Load the slides into the slide chute with the painted side up.

Note: You can load up to 172 slides. Be aware that slides exposed to high humidity may stick together.

A red outline will be displayed around the fields when the fields overlap.

Select the supply type(s) you need. (The operator may select None, select a supply type from the list, and select Select to save the supply type). The lines connecting the bath and supply will be displayed in the same color as the supply type bottle.

Configuration is required for all baths that are associated with a supply type. For baths 2, 3, and 4 you may configure up to two supplies into one bath. Baths 1 and 5 can only accommodate one type of supply.

Note The system will display *Configuration Required to the left of the Supply Type graphic above the Configure Bath button. An asterisk will also be displayed next to the bath name.

Configure the bath content in Bath Content and the frequency required in Auto Drain and Refill. When more than one supply type is configured for a bath, you can define the ratio of one supply to the other in the % fields. The bath content for combined supplies must equal 100%. Set the time that the basket will stay in the bath in the Duration field.

Set Up a Quick Rinse (read only)

Follow the procedure, when needed, to reduce stain precipitate on the slide for the Wright Giemsa QR(quick rinse) default stain protocol.

Risk of personal injury or contamination. Failure to properly shield yourself while using or servicing the instrument may result in injury or contamination. To prevent possible injury or biological contamination, you must wear proper laboratory attire including gloves, and a laboratory coat, and eye protection.

You will need the following materials:

Methanol Deionized Water Empty reagent bottle with a 2L capacity, provided in the accessory

kit Funnel Beaker with a minimum volume capacity of 2L

PREPARATION

1 Obtain an empty 2L reagent bottle and label it QR for Quick Rinse or Supply 3.

2 Mix 500 mL of methanol and 1500 mL of deionized water in a beaker.

3 Use the funnel to transfer the 2L mixture from the previous step into the QR quick rinse bottle.

Note If you have a floor stand, load the quick rinse bottle on the floor stand behind Supply 3.

4 Carefully insert the Supply 3 pickup tube assembly into the new quick rinse bottle and tighten the cap.

Note The pickup tube assembly has several tubes that may bend when you insert them into the new container. Use a slight twisting motion if you experience difficulty.

5 Access the Fill Bath option by selecting Menu>Diagnostics>DxTools>Slidestainer Tab>Fluidics.

6 Select Fill Bath 4 from the drop-down list and select Start from the local navigation bar.

The DxH Slidemaker Stainer makes blood smears based on the criteria and rules set up for the sample results on the System Manager, on downloaded test orders from the host, or on the addition of a Test Order at the System Manager.

The sample aspiration probe aspirates 90 μL for up to four smears. A maximum of four smears can be obtained from a single-tube aspiration (single-tube or cassette presentation). A maximum of 12 smears can be obtained from three aspirations in the cassette presentation.

Tube dead volume varies depending on the tube’s physical characteristics (length and diameter), the tube bottom adjustments, and the sampling presentation.

Throughput

Under a steady state, the DxH Slidemaker Stainer achieved a throughput of 140 slides (unstained dried blood films) per hour using normal whole blood under the following conditions:

Running Samples in Cassette Presentation

Obtain barcode labels from your facilitator. This section assumes bidirectional LIS download and positive identifier set to Specimen ID.

Affix the barcode labels supplied to the specimens provided.

2 Ensure the label is flattened smooth against the tube. Press the label down securely, including all the edges and the corners. Ensure that no part of the label is loose.

3 Ensure your specimens have been collected and stored properly as per CLSI guidelines.

Slide each sample firmly into the cassette ensuring that the bar codes are facing up within the cassette window.

5 Place the cassettes into the input buffer.

6 Place the instrument online. The instrument will automatically begin cycling the cassettes.

Running Samples in Single-Tube Presentation

Obtain another bar-coded specimen. You will use the handheld bar-code scanner to scan the bar-code label on the sample, you may manually enter the Sample ID, or you can place the sample in the grooved area in front of the barcode reader.

1 Double-click the instrument icon to display the default order for single-tube aspiration or select the DETAIL STATUS from the local navigation bar on the system status screen.

Select Single-Tube Presentation.

The system displays Preparing for Single Tube presentation, please wait and then the Single-Tube Station dialog box is displayed.

At the Single-Tube Station: Place the specimen in the grooved area in front of the barcode reader or Enter the Sample ID manually (You may use alpha or numeric characters) or Use the bar-code scanner to scan the label. Your handheld bar-code scanner is a camera that takes a picture of the bar-code.

Note: Move the label closer if the bar-code scanner does not read the information. Once the bar-code is read, you will hear a beep.

4 Press Enter.

Follow the instructions in the highlighted area of the dialog box. If the system recognizes the barcode as a previous run barcode, it will prompt the operator to either choose: Re-run or Reflex. Re-run does not work. Either type in a new ID or Reflex.

Place the tube in the correct cradle position. The left (lavender) position adapts to both open and closed vial tubes from 12 to 13 mm in diameter. The right (green) position holds microtainer tubes. The cradle retracts and the instrument processes the specimen. When the instrument is ready to process the next specimen, the system sends the cradle back out again.

7 Select the Exit button on the Single-Tube Station dialog box to exit from the Single-Tube Station when processing is complete.

2 Remove the Transport Shield.

3 Lift the Front Cover.

4 Manually move the SAM to the left.

Pull the Slidemaker release handle.

Note: Releasing the SAM and pulling SM out is not required to access the printer cover unless there is no access like in a connectivity or if instrument up against a corner with no access.

The Slidemaker Stainer has 3 bar code readers. It has a bar-code reader on the single-tube station, the SAM (Specimen Aspiration Module) bar code reader, and the STM (Specimen Transport Module) bar code reader.

These barcodes have the following functions:

Provide for positive identification of all specimen tube IDs in the form of an image.

Scan the cassette and specimen ID twice prior to aspiration.

Support symbologies as small as 5 millimeters and include Code 128, Codabar, NW7, Code 39 and Interleaved 2 of 5.

Scan a maximum number of 22 characters plus checksum or whatever can be printed in the viewable height, whichever is less.

Sample Flow (Chapter 2>Operation Principles)

Cassette Presentation

Samples in cassettes are loaded in the input buffer. Each specimen is identified by a bar code scanner. Cassettes are transferred to one of the two mixing stations. The aspirated sample is transported through the hemasphere, the blood detector, and finally into the dispense probe. Twenty-five ul of the sample is discarded. The probe moves to the drop placement position. Approximately 4 uL drop of blood is placed on the slide located on the smear shuttle. A second slide is picked up by the smear truck and used to spread the blood drop on the first slide using the wedge technique. The prepared slide is transferred from the smear shuttle into the print shuttle, and then into the basket elevator for drying.

Single-Tube Presentation

The specimen is manually mixed, identified, and placed in the single-tube station. The specimen is aspirated and follows the same path through the hemasphere, and so forth as described above in the Cassette Presentation.

IMPORTANT: The DxH Slidemaker Stainer must be offline to run diagnostic procedures. If the system is online, the following message is displayed:

Putting the instrument offline will stop processing specimens and any cassette in progress will be routed to the output buffer. Do you still want to continue with the request?

Select OK to continue or select Cancel to cancel the procedure and remain online.

When you are finished running diagnostics and want to return to online processes, select Finish from the local navigation bar on the Diagnostics screen.

Overall Stain Quality

Beckman Coulter has developed COULTER TruColor reagents and default protocols to be used on the UniCel DxH Slidemaker Stainer. The Beckman Coulter default protocols have been optimized to a predefined colorization specification.

Since colorization is subjective, optimization of the protocols and/or reagents may be necessary to meet your individual colorization criteria. Ensure that both the methanol and water you use meet the specifications detailed in your system’s online help.

Typical time adjustment increments:

Stain – 30 seconds

Buffer – 1 minute

Coloration (red/blue) is primarily controlled by the pH of the buffer.

Stain intensity and differential staining characteristics are controlled by:

The length of staining times (longer = more intense)

Decreasing the buffer strength

Concentration of stain in buffer (more stain = darker, more intense)

HISTORY LOGS

This module introduces History (Event) Logs. These logs record every event that occurs on the system, divided into separate categories based on the type of error. You must review any event that causes a red icon so that the system may continue running.

INFORMATION/PRACTICE The History (Event) logs have a variety of types. You access them by selecting the Event Status Icon . Learn more about this area by using the System Help.

Step Action

1 Select at the top of any screen to display the History Logs screen.

Select a log name from the Log Type drop-down list to view that log.

Review

There are four log types: Event Logs, Data Summary Logs, Audit Log and Maintenance Logs.

Whenever the Event Status Icon is yellow or red, select it to review the message. This always takes you to the General tab. This log records all entries for System problems/warnings. You must review any

entry with a or . The signifies information only. Selecting the Review button causes the Event Status Icon to return to a neutral color. Select the Details Button to see more information about the entry. Just as in the Daily Checks area, you may want to add a comment to the entry to explain why you reviewed and accepted the message.

The Patients tab records information about individual specimens, e.g. a no read of a barcode.

The Supplies tab records information associated with the reagents, when a supply is depleted or switched.

The System Status tab records information on reports and LIS activity.



The Daily Checks tab records the details of each Daily Checks test run in the past.

The Supplies tab records the details of each reagent container change.

The Audit tab records information such as when a configuration was changed.

The Maintenance tab records status messages and allows the lab to add New Entries to record cleaning or other procedures performed. It can be thought of as an Action Log. Try adding an entry now!

The Service tab records any diagnostic procedures performed. It can only be accessed and commented on by someone with a Service access level. The lab may view and print this log.

Details

Most of the logs give you access to the Details button to find out more about the message posted. Highlight any entry in a log and select the Details button.

Comments

Any log allows you to attach a comment. Highlight an entry and select the Comment button. You may enter any text you wish. You may also amend, add to or delete previous comments. Whoever is logged in at the time is recorded as the comment author along with the date and time.

Add a comment now! You may also automatically add this to the Maintenance Log by selecting the checkbox “Log Comment/Event in Maintenance Log”.

Delete

Some logs allow a Delete. We do not recommend deleting any entries in the logs.

Print

You may print logs manually or automatically.

Manual

Open a log, select a couple of entries and select the manual print button from the utility area. A dialog box opens giving you options to print the entire log, by filters or selected entries. You may optionally choose Details as well.

Choose Selected Entries and OK.

Auto Print

If you want to print all or certain logs on a regular basis, choose the Auto Print button.

This allows you to schedule printing of each category of the logs, weekly or monthly, at a certain day and time, with or without details.

Export

Selecting the Export button gives you the option of exporting the logs you choose to a CD or flash drive.

If you choose to save to a flash drive, you must first save temporarily to E:\, then drag and drop to your flash drive. You may then want to delete that temporary file.

The logs exported are converted to a .csv format that you can read on any computer that has a spreadsheet program on it (not on the System Manager).

You may perform this now if you think you may use this method in your lab.

2 Select one of the logs and select a message.

3 Click on the message and find the details pertaining to it.

4 Select another message and add a comment to the message.

During the classroom exercises, you are at a Level III access. These next steps will show you how to manage and create the other two customer levels. For more information, see System HELP Appendix D, Operator Access Chapter 6.

1 Select Menu>Setup>Operators and Roles.

2 On the Operators and Roles screen, view the list of various operators who are set up to use the system.

Note that the Level III access (aka Lab Administrator) is the only one of the levels that can set up or edit other operator levels.

TIP Ultimately, the Operator ID and Password will be the information entered on the login screen. Remember that BOTH are case-sensitive.

TIP The initial password entered at this point is considered a “temporary” password. Simply use the word temp for now. Write down the information you enter for each level below:

1 At the Log on screen, type in your new Level I Operator ID and the Password temp.

2 A message appears telling you that the password is a temporary one and to enter a new password. Select OK.

3 Type in temp for the old password.

4 Type in the new password you want to use. You will need to do this for Password and Confirm Password.

5 Record your password for Level I here ___________________.

6 Explore the different screen areas noting the differences (for example, the areas to which you no longer have access).

7 Once you complete steps 1-6 above, select Log off .

8 Now repeat steps 1-7 for the Level II log on.

9 Record your password for Level II here ___________________.

Editing an Existing Operator

You must be logged in at Level III access to perform this exercise. One reason for needing to perform this editing is to change an existing operator’s access, e.g. from Level I to Level II.

Step Action

Follow the steps and choose the Level II account you previously set up. Change it to Level 1 and make it Inactive.

Note that you may also edit the first and last name.

1 Select Menu>Setup>Operator and Roles.

2 On the Operators and Roles screen, select Edit Operator from the local navigation bar.

3 On the Edit Operator dialog box, change the operator information, select an access level using the drop-down list, and select an account status.

4 Select OK to save the changes.

Resetting an Operator’s Password

The Level III Operator may reset the password of another operator. This may be necessary if operators forget their own password.

Step Action

Follow the steps and select the Level I Operator ID you previously set up.

1 Select Menu>Setup>Operator and Roles.

2 On the Operators and Roles screen select Reset Password from the local navigation bar.

3 Change the password. _______ Select OK to save the changes.

4 Log off and Log on to try it out.



Changing Your Password

Any operator may change his or her own password at any time. Select the Change Password button from the Operators and Roles screen.

Try this now and change back to your original password for Level I.

Timeout Settings - Setting the Password Expiration and Enabling Auto-Lockout

You must be at Level III access to do this exercise.

The Password Expiration defaults to 60 days. You may change this to 30 days or 90 days or Disable it.

Note: The Auto-Lockout feature is initially disabled. You may enable it and set the number of minutes between 5 and 60. This is the amount of time of non-use that requires the user to log in again.

In System HELP, go to Appendix D and expand Operator Access.

There are ten tables that list the various operator functions by Level I, II and III.
