Course Requirements
• Attendance – TWO absences at most are allowed.• Latenesses – three latenesses count as an absence. • Regular homework assignments – Answer keys are
in the book or in Blackboard (under “course materials”) for the “More practice” section.
• Come to class prepared with any questions or difficulties arising from the homework.
• Series of 12 quizzes on Wednesdays starting Sep. 7th (no quiz on Oct. 12th) worth 70% of final grade. TWO quizzes with lowest grade will not be counted.
• Final Exam- worth 30% of final grade.

How do we know what part of speech a word is?
For instance, what are nouns?
Nouns are words that name a person, place, thing or idea.
But what tests can we use to determine what part of speech a word belongs to?
