What is a Wise Buyer?• A wise Buyer is someone who thinks before

making a decision on purchasing products.• So Wise buying refers to buying the right type

of products or services at the right time, at the right place and at the right price.

• It is a process of making a buying decision in the right manner, so that you do not regret in the future.

Why are Prices different for the same good?Because of the following factors:• Transportation Cost• Retail Outlets put their mark-ups• Competition• Specials

Same good, Same Brand-Different Quantities• Even with the same brand, a product can come in

different sizes.WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE TO THE CONSUMER?• A larger packet or bottle will cost more than a cheaper

one. But it may be cheaper in the long run to buy the larger one.


3.4 QUALITY

Product Quality-Quality can influence the taste, safety, cleanliness, durable, sound, design, duration.

Service Quality-Customer service, cleanliness of a public transport, High standard of education.


3.5 Consumer Protection• The government protects consumers.• In the past it was known as Consumers Affairs

Bureau and now it is known as Independent Consumer & Competition Commission (ICCC)

• This people make amends the welfare of Papua New Guineans through promotion of competition, fair trading and the protection of consumer’s interest.

• They monitor and evaluate prices of goods and services and make sure that all business have a mark up of 10% and there is fairness for the benefit of all parties.

• The ICCC main aim is for a healthy competition between competitors as well as companies who are investing in PNG.
